Jorge Masvidal vs. Nate Diaz - Masvidal vs. Diaz 2 Highlights

Five years removed from their first meeting under the UFC banner, Jorge Masvidal and Nate Diaz stepped inside the squared circle to run it back on Saturday night, headlining a loaded boxing card in Anaheim, California.

From the get-go, Diaz put the pressure on Masvidal early and never once let up throughout their entertaining 10-round clash. However, it was ‘Gamebred’ who landed the more impactful shots, counterstriking and punishing Diaz with his jab from the southpaw stance.

After going the full 30 minutes, it was Masvidal who held a significant advantage in total punches landed. Still, it was Diaz’s volume and constant pressure that appeared to be the deciding factor for two of the three judges.

Nate Diaz

Official Result: Nate Diaz def. Jorge Masvidal via majority decision (95-95, 97-93, 98-92).

After coming up short in his pro boxing debut against Jake Paul last year, Diaz has his first official win in the squared circle. As for what comes next, Diaz suggested a rematch with ‘The Problem Child’ is at the top of his last.

Sharing his pick for tonight’s boxing match between former two-time foe, Nate Diaz, and often-mooted rival, Jorge Masvidal, former two-weight champion, Conor McGregor has backed the Stockton native to turn in an “easy” win over the latter – to the tune of $500,000 no less.

McGregor, a former two-time foe of Californian veteran, Diaz has tasted both defeat and success against the UFC product, and has forever found himself tied to a potential trilogy rubber match down the line between the duo.

As for Masvidal, the former symbolic BMF champion has made his feelings toward the outspoken Dubliner public record time and time again, claiming just earlier this month how despite his best efforts, McGregor has served a fight with him during their respective tenures inside the Octagon.

“I’ve decided to put $500,000 on Diaz to win tonight’s boxing match,” Conor McGregor posted on his official X account. “Range, form, experience, solely hands being used, I can’t see Masvidal causing any problems to Nate in a boxing ring whatsoever. They are both little play around dipsh*ts in a fight, play around b*llox, but I feel Nate does him in EASY here for real. $500k gets me back $1,625,00 all in.”

Making his sophomore outing in professional boxing tonight, TUF winner, Diaz is reportedly set to land himself a $500,000 payday for his efforts against Masvidal, with the Miami native slated to net a $300,000 purse to boot.

Despite coming out on top in their UFC encounter five years ago, Jorge Masvidal is not one of the top-two earners of the boxing card that he and Nate Diaz will be headlining on July 6.

The California State Athletic Commission revealed the purse salaries on fight day, with MMA Fighting being the first to report them.

Diaz will have the most guaranteed money out of all participants on the night, walking away with a minimum of $500,000. Masvidal, meanwhile, will only make $300,000 guaranteed.

Masvidal actually has just the third-most guaranteed money out of everyone on the card. Former UFC lightweight champion Anthony Pettis, who competes on the Diaz vs. Masvidal undercard, will earn $350,000 in guaranteed money.

Other notable figures from the card include Chris Avila making $210,000, Shane Mosley Jr. making $160,000, and Daniel Jacobs making $100,000. Jacobs, however, missed weight for his fight, so half of his purse will go to Mosley Jr., his opponent.

The full listed of guaranteed salaries is listed below.

  • Nate Diaz $500,000
  • Jorge Masvidal $300,000
  • Daniel Jacobs $100,000* (fined 20 percent of his purse)
  • Shane Mosley Jr. $160,000
  • Anthony Pettis $350,000
  • Chris Avila $210,000
  • Curmel Moton $40,000
  • Nikolai Buzolin $8,000* (fined 20 percent of his purse)
  • Amado Vargas $100,000
  • Sean Garcia $50,000* (fined 20 percent of his purse)
  • Devin Cushing $60,000

  • Gabriel Costa $2,500
  • Jose Aguayo $40,000
  • Bryce Logan $6,000
  • Ken Lopez $18,000
  • Andres Martinez $600

As previously mentioned, these salaries are just guaranteed money and do not include earnings of pay-per-view sales that certain fighters may receive. They also do not include locker room bonuses, sponsorship earnings, and other means of revenue.

Diaz and Masvidal will meet in a 10-round light heavyweight bout in Saturday’s main event at the Honda Center in Anaheim, California.

The two first met at UFC 244 in November 2019, with Masvidal winning via third-round doctor’s stoppage TKO to become the inaugural BMF champion.

Nate Diaz and Jorge Masvidal finally settled their differences in the boxing ring on July 6. MMA News has the results and highlights here!

The long-awaited rematch between Diaz and Masvidal occurred on July 6 at the Honda Center in Anaheim, California. Both fighters have waited nearly five years to fight each other again after their first encounter at UFC 244 in 2019. However, instead of competing in MMA, they ran it back in the boxing ring.

In the fight, Diaz overwhelmed Masvidal with punches for ten rounds. The former BMF Champion did his best to keep his opponent off him with power punches but couldn’t stop the pressure from the California native. Ultimately, the fight went the distance, with Diaz winning by majority decision.

Elsewhere on the card, Anthony Pettis faced Chris Avila in a light heavyweight contest. Pettis was coming off a debut win over boxing legend Roy Jones Jr. by a majority decision last year. However, the former UFC champion couldn’t replicate his success, as Avila controlled the fight to earn a comfortable unanimous decision win.

Ex-UFC star Jorge Masvidal setting sights on Floyd Mayweather and Logan Paul after Nate Diaz fight

After taking care of a bit of business with Nate Diaz, Jorge Masvidal has his sights set on a scrap with ‘Money’ Mayweather.

Stepping away from the Octagon following a four-fight losing skid, ‘Gamebred’ will test his skills in the sweet science when he makes his pro boxing debut against the ‘Stockton Samurai’ on Saturday, July 6. Their fight will emanate from the Honda Center in Anaheim, California, and will be available on multiple platforms, including Fanmio, DAZN, and UFC FightPass.

Jorge Masvidal

Masvidal plans on it being the first of three boxing bouts before he makes his return to the UFC. As far as who else he hopes to share the ring with, ‘Gamebred’ is dreaming big. During a recent interview with Michael Bisping on the former middleweight champ’s YouTube channel, Masvidal revealed that he would like to throw hands with Logan Paul before going after legendary pugilist Floyd Mayweather.

“I wouldn’t mind a fight with Logan [Paul] and just breaking all the pay-per-view records and having more time to box. … And then go after [Floyd] Mayweather,” Masvidal said.

Floyd Mayweather returns to the ring in August for a rematch with John Gotti III

Though Mayweather retired from the sport of boxing following a 50th career win against Irish megastar Conor McGregor in 2017, ‘Money’ has remained active by competing in a series of exhibition fights around the world. His most recent appearance in the ring came in June 2023 when he squared off with John Gotti III at the FLA Live Arena in Sunshine, Florida.

Their meeting ended in utter chaos when Gotti III was disqualified in the opening minute of the sixth rough, prompting an all-out brawl to break out between the two corners.

The two will run it back on August 24 in Mexico City.
