Oscar De La Hoya reveals his high expectations for the trilogy fight between UFC Legends Tito Ortiz and Chuck Liddell that takes place later this year. The boxing turned MMA promoter is already doing what he’s paid to do, which is to promote.

Motive

Thus, when talking about the upcoming fight, he promised that they would get paid more in this fight than their first two bouts. This has been a topic that he has talked about quite a bit while trying to make this fight happen and continues to do so.

Although he won’t get into specifics, he says both combatants will earn their biggest checks ever for a fight. According to Oscar, one of his reasons for getting into MMA is to offer fighters another outlet and wants to see them get paid big.

Oscar De La Hoya Reveals

“Look, we have arguably the two biggest names in MMA. These are the pioneers that started with UFC and they have had two incredible fights together. Now Tito Ortiz and Chuck Liddell will once again give the fans their money’s worth,” said Oscar (H/T to MMAMania) on Ariel Helwani’s MMA Show.

“The fact that I am including them in all revenue shares makes a huge difference. Tito Ortiz and Chuck Liddell deserve it, they are legends. They deserve to be treated the right way.”

“All I can say is that they are going to make the most money they have ever made in their careers. And I know that for a fact,” he added. “The fact that we are including them in all revenue shares is a big game changer for both guys. This fight was relatively easy to make because we do include them in all revenuers that are coming in to the pot. What fighter in UFC can say that other than maybe Conor McGregor?”

This event goes down on November 24, 2018 inside The Forum in Inglewood, California and will air live on pay-per-view. More fights for the main and under card of this show will be announced in the coming weeks.

Chuck Liddell Reveals Real Motivation Behind Tito Ortiz Trilogy

Chuck Liddell revealed his true motivation for fighting Tito Ortiz a third time.

Apparently, the time is right that Chuck Liddell reveals his real motivation behind his oft-criticized trilogy fight with Tito Ortiz.

Former UFC champ Liddell will meet longtime rival Ortiz on November 24, 2018, in California. It will take place under Oscar De La Hoya’s Golden Boy Promotions. The California State Athletic Commission (CSAC) recently approved the fight. Executive Andy Foster recently had an interesting take on the fight’s approval.

The 48-year-old Liddell shouldn’t be fighting according to many due to the rapid decline of his chin. Liddell lost several of his final UFC fights by way or brutal knockout. Few want to see that happen again, but the 41-year-old Ortiz has never been a knockout puncher. That’s fortunate for Liddell, yet the criticism remains.

Those critics have openly wondered about ‘The Iceman’s’ true motivation for coming back at the age. Most believe it’s for an easy paycheck. He was unceremoniously released from his supposedly ‘lifetime’ position with the UFC shortly after Endeavor (formerly WME-IMG) bought the promotion in 2016. “The Iceman” was a casualty because the Hollywood talent agency wanted to cut costs.

But Liddell insists he doesn’t want to come back just for a paycheck. He recently revealed to Larry King that he has one real motivation for coming back against his most hated rival. Liddell claims he just wants to shut “The Huntington Beach Bad Boy” up:

“Tito is one of those guys I have to beat. I don’t want to listen to him. I still have to listen to him after beating him twice, I couldn’t imagine what it would be like if I actually lost to him, so this is very important for me to win this fight.”

Liddell fought Ortiz twice at 2004’s UFC 47 and 2006’s UFC 66. ‘The Iceman’ won both of the fights, with the first coming by second-round KO and the second by way of third-round TKO.

UFC President Dana White unceremoniously forced Liddell into retirement back in 2010. White claimed Liddell would always have a job with the UFC, but he doesn’t want to see him fight again.

That stance is shared by a growing number of onlookers. They may or may not tune in on pay-per-view, however.

Which side are you on?

Oscar De La Hoya is serious about his venture into the world of mixed martial arts (MMA).

Golden Boy MMA will put on its inaugural event with two of the biggest stars in the sports’ history at the forefront. A trilogy bout between former UFC light heavyweight champions Chuck Liddell and Tito Ortiz is slated for the card.

The event currently has no date or venue but both Liddell and Ortiz have agreed to throw down under De La Hoya’s banner.

FightHubTV recently caught up with the former boxing champion and discussed his MMA intentions. He seems excited to be jumping into the world of MMA and also urged any MMA fighters who are searching for a different avenue to give him a call (via MMA Mania):

“I’m really looking forward to getting involved with MMA and building a new business,” De La Hoya said.

“If any fighter who is an MMA fighter wants to explore a different avenue, come knock on our door, give us a call. I’m really excited about starting Golden Boy MMA. When we do things, we do them right, just like we’ve done with boxing.”

Not many in the MMA community are expecting De La Hoya to be around in the promotional aspect of the sport for the long haul.

If he’s able to put on several fairly successful events and maybe ink down a few notable names to deals, perhaps that perspective will shift. For now, the common sentiment seems to be that this will be a one-off deal for Golden Boy MMA.

Canelo vs. GGG II Rebooked For This Fall

Canelo vs. GG II is back on, folks:

The post Canelo vs. GGG II Rebooked For This Fall appeared first on LowKickMMA.com.

One of boxing’s biggest match-ups is back on.

Earlier today (Wed., June 13, 2018) Golden Boy Promotions head man Oscar De La Hoya revealed on social media that the anticipated rematch between his star client Saul “Canelo” Alvarez and Gennady Golovkin has been rescheduled for September 15 in Las Vegas.

The two were supposed to fight for a second time in May, but two failed drug tests for clenbuterol by Alvarez and a subsequent anti-doping suspension from the Nevada State Athletic Commission (NSAC) pushed the fight back to this autumn:

Alvarez and Golovkin originally fought to a highly controversial draw in September 2017, a fight that came under intense scrutiny due to scores turned in by often-lambasted judge Adalaide Byrd.

The rematch was booked for May, but when Alvarez failed the two drug tests in February, he was given a provisional suspension that ultimately turned into a six-month suspension from the NSAC, who apparently didn’t fully buy his assertion that the positive tests for clenbuterol came from consuming contaminated meat in his native Mexico.

For what it’s worth, multiple fighters have tested positive for the substance in the UFC due to contaminated meat South of the Border.

Alvarez has maintained his innocence throughout and has even reportedly signed up for complete Voluntary Anti-Doping Agency (VADA) testing to prove it.

He now has his rematch that will make it all worth it.
