Tyson Fury vs. Francis Ngannou expected to be announced soon exhibition boxing match

According to multiple reports this Friday night, undisputed WBC heavyweight world champion, Tyson Fury, and former undisputed UFC heavyweight titleholder, Francis Ngannou are slated to fight next – with an announcement of a long-speculated clash imminent.

According to an initial report from Ariel Helwani, Morecambe native, Tyson Fury is expected to fight former UFC champion, Francis Ngannou next – with an announcement of a bout coming in the near future.

“Tyson Fury x Francis Ngannou is expected to be announced very soon, per sources,” Helwani tweeted.

News of an expected clash of Fury and Batié knockout artist, Ngannou has come off the back of claims from Matchroom Boxing promoter, Eddie Hearn, that the duo are expected to face-off next in their next respective combat sports walks, however, according to the latter, knockdowns in a potential exhibition bout are prohibited.

Sidelined from professional boxing since successfully defending his WBC heavyweight championship back in December of last year in London, Fury most recently turned in an impressive tenth round TKO win over three-time foe, Derek Chisora – landing his third victory over the challenger to boot.

As for Ngannou, the former UFC heavyweight champion has been sidelined since his final Octagon outing back in January of last year at UFC 270, defeating then-interim champion, Ciryl Gane in a unanimous decision title unification win.

Francis Ngannou set to make MMA return next year after planned Tyson Fury fight

Sidelined from mixed martial arts competition since then, Ngannou, who has since penned a multi-fight deal with the PFL (Professional Fighters League), is expected to make his debut outing with the Peter Murray-led organization in the opening quarter of 2024 to boot.

33-0-1 as a professional, over the course of his gold-laden professional boxing career, Fury has landed notable career wins over the likes of Steve Cunningham, Derek Chisora, Wladimir Klitschko, Tom Schwarz, Otto Wallin, Deontay Wilder, and DIllian Whyte to name a few.

Former UFC title challenger, Chael Sonnen reveals bizarre catfishing story involving PFL’s Aspen Ladd.

Throughout Sonnen’s time in the MMA world, he has bene known to entertain in and outside of the cage and is widely regarded as one of the bets talkers the sport has seen. A natural and witty story teller, Sonnen has used his skills to grow his YouTube channel to over 1.1 million subscribers where he posts regular content.

Making an appearance on the MMA hour, Sonnen this time shared a odd tale in which is says he was catfished by Ladd.

“I get a long DM, and it was very clear that this was a copy and paste,” Sonnen began. “And somewhere in there they made the mistake of referencing Laspen Add, which is not Aspen Ladd, which is not how you would speak. Right? I’m not going to send you a message and go, ‘Chael Sonnen will be on the such and such.’ I would say, ‘Me, I.’ (H/T MMAFighting)

“So I had them. I had them. I called them out on it. I said, ‘Hey, WTF. This is a copy and paste, for one, which changes everything.’ Right? And the gal was like, ‘Oh my God! Yeah, you’re right. I’m not [Ladd]. I thought you knew that. I’m not Aspen Ladd. Here’s who I am.’

“It was Aspen Ladd’s account, but she had what the kids call a publicist,” said Sonnen.

After five years with the promotion, Ladd parted ways with the UFC in 2022 and would sign with the PFL, going 2-1 with the promotion. Most recently she defeated Karolina Sobek via a second round submission last month in Atlanta, Georgia.

Tim Sylvia claims he would beat Francis Ngannou in his prime UFC I don't think he's good

Former two-time undisputed UFC heavyweight champion, Tim Sylvia has claimed that in his fighting prime, he would have likely toppled Cameroonian knockout artist and fellow former division champion, Francis Ngannou – claiming the latter is actually not “that good”.

Sylvia, a former two-time undisputed heavyweight champion under the banner of the UFC, retired from active competition back in 2013, slumping to 31-10(1) as a professional following a unanimous decision loss to Ruslan Magomedov at an event in Moscow, Russia at the super heavyweight limit.

An alum of ONE Championship, Affliction and the aforenoted, UFC to boot – Sylvia won the undisputed UFC heavyweight crown in his sophomore outing in the Octagon, stopping Ricco Rodriguez with a first round TKO win.

Defending the title in a subsequent knockout win over Gan McGee, Syliva then dropped a memorable technical submission loss to Frank Mir via armbar – and then dropping a 47-second achilles lock loss to Andrei Arlovski in an interim heavyweight championship outing.

In 2006, Sylvia avenged his loss to Arlovski with a first round TKO win against the Bularus native, before taking a trilogy rubber match win in his title defense, before beating Jeff Monson. Sylvia would drop the crown to the returning former two-division champion, Randy Couture

Tim Sylvia claims Francis Ngannou’s ability is not “that good”

Sharing his thoughts on the run of Batié native, Ngannou, Syliva dismissed a lot of the ability of the former UFC heavyweight champion.

“I don’t think Francis (Ngannou) is that good,” Tim Sylvia told Submission Radio during a recnet interview. “He’s a monster with heavy hands but his punches come from his hips and he swings wild and crazy. He hits you, you’re going to sleep but a technical fighter like (Jon) Jones and Stipe (Miocic), they beat him again.”

“I’d destroy him in my prime,” Tim Sylvia explained. “If we fought right now he beats me, but in my prime, if we could go back in time and I’m in my prime, he’s in his prime, I destory him. He’s too wild. I was more of a technical striker than he is.”

Deontay Wilder plays up fight with UFC alum Francis Ngannou he knows what the deal is

Linked with a future boxing showdown with former undisputed UFC heavyweight champion, Francis Ngannou, heavyweight knockout artist, Deontay Wilder insists that the former is well informed regarding the deal currently on the table.

Wilder, a former undisputed WBC heavyweight champion, managed to return to the winner’s enclosure following a pair of consecutive title knockout losses to Tyson Fury, stopping Robert Helenius with a thunderous opening round KO back in October of last year in Brooklyn, New York.

Yet to be booked for a fight since, despite links to bouts with fellow former world champions, Anthony Joshua, and Andy Ruiz Jr. – Wilder has also entertained a fight with former UFC kingpin, Ngannou, who has since penned a multi-fight deal with the PFL (Professional Fighters League).

Expected to make his return to mixed martial arts competition in the opening quarter of next year, Ngannou has been sidelined since headlining UFC 270 back in January of last year, taking home a successful heavyweight title unification win over then-interim champion, Ciryl Gane.

Deontay Wilder discusses long-rumored clash with UFC alum, Francis Ngannou

And teasing a future fight with Wilder – in a long-rumored move to professional boxing later this year, Ngannou has been informed that a deal is currently on the table – by the Tuscaloosa veteran himself.

“He (Francis Ngannou) knows what the deal is,” Deontay Wilder told The Schmo during a recent interview. “Francis, you hear me, you know what’s up. I was at the PFL to enjoy some fighting, to shake a couple hands with a couple of people, and talk business as well. Francis is one of those names that definitely came up and that keeps coming up.”

“So hopefully we can get something under schedule in the near future that we can present to the people and make this fight become a reality,” Deontay Wilder explained.

Chael Sonnen commends PFL for suspending Natan Schulte and Raush Manfio: ‘They have the right to do it’

Chael Sonnen is backing the PFL’s decision to suspend Raush Manfio and Natan Schulte after delivering a lackluster performance in their PFL 6 preliminary bout last week.

The Professional Fighters League has received a fair amount of backlash for their decision to suspend the American Top Team teammates after a three-round fight that felt more like a light sparring session. Natan Schulte ultimately went on to win the bout via a unanimous decision, earning him the three points necessary to clinch a spot in the 2023 PFL playoffs. However, the PFL was clearly in no mood to reward either man for their sleep-inducing performances. Less than 24 hours after the snoozefest, the PFL released a statement confirming that both fighters would be suspended effective immediately and Schulte’s playoff spot would be handed to Shane Burgos.

“Last Night Natan Schulte and Raush Manfio did not meet the standards which all PFL fighters agree to uphold in competition,” a statement from the PFL read. “All fighters in their PFL Fight Agreements agree to use their ‘best efforts… skills and abilities as a professional athlete to compete… and defeat any opponent. It was very clear that Natan and Raush did not meet that contractual standard in yesterday’s bout.”

Most fight fans and fighters have vehemently disagreed with the PFL’s decision. After all, they are the ones that booked a fight between two close friends and teammates. But former three-time UFC title challenger Chael Sonnen doesn’t see it that way. Appearing on The MMA Hour with Ariel Helwani, ‘The American Gangster’ commended the PFL for taking action and thoroughly explaining their decision.

“The PFL has done some things lately that have been awesome,” Sonnen said. “This is one of them, where when they made this decision. They came out and got in front of everything. They had a wonderful PR operator who, when they released this decision, said why they have the right to do it. They stated what was in the bylaws of the contract that you agree at all times to bring your best skillset and aggression against all opponents. They showed what the violation was, which any reasonable person would agree was violated… I don’t think the PFL was wrong” (h/t MMA News).

Natan Schulte and Raush Manfio Respond to Their Abrupt PFL Suspensions

Natan Schulte expressed his displeasure with the decision on Twitter and dragged recent PFL signee Francis Ngannou into the conversation, citing his role as a member of the promotion’s Global Advisory Board.

“I am very unsatisfied with the decision that was taken by the PFL last night to favor Shane Burgos’ entry into the playoffs,” Schulte tweeted. “You remember Francis Ngannou’s fight against Derrick Lewis, he didn’t throw six punches in the whole fight and he wasn’t cut for his performance that night. So, I ask you Francis Ngannou since you protect the rights of the fighters, do you think this decision is correct?”

Raush Manfio’s manager, Brian Butler, also issued a statement condemning the PFL’s controversial decision.

“To make a subjective decision like this from a promoter that stakes its claim in fighter advocacy is just a bad look, in my opinion,” Butler said in a statement sent to MMA Fighting. “Judges make bad calls all the time with less repercussion. Raush and Natan are best friends and have been exclusive training partners for each other for years. Natan is the godfather of Raush’s daughter. To say they know each other’s styles, tricks and techniques inside and out is a gross understatement.

“Situations like bad style matchups and lackluster fights happen in this sport all the time but the unique thing about the PFL and the ‘tournament/point format’ is that it would sort itself out on its own in the end. Our client got half his pay and zero points to move forward in the tournament. This is distasteful and unnecessary.”

Do you believe the PFL was right to suspend Raush Mafio and Natan Schulte for their uninspired performances?

Dana White shuts down Jon Jones Francis Ngannou cross over fight it wouldn't work

UFC president, Dana White has played down the possibility of a future fight between current division champion, Jon Jones, and former division titleholder, Francis Ngannou – stressing how a cross-over fight with the recently signed PFL (Professional Fighters League) star “wouldn’t work”.

Jones, the current heavyweight champion under the banner of the UFC, is the latest heavyweight to clinch gold following the removal of Ngannou as champion, following is departing from the promotion back in January of this year.

As for Ngannou, the Cameroonian has been sidelined from active competition since he headlined UFC 270 back in January of last year, unifying and defending the heavyweight titles in a unanimous decision win over former interim titleholder, Ciryl Gane.

And despite the fact Ngannou nor Jones ever faced each other in a much-clamoured for fight during their respecteive tenures with the UFC, the two talked up a future fight during a tense showdown and face-off during PFL 5: Regular Season earlier this month.

Dana White shuts down Jon Jones x Francis Ngannou in the future

With a slew of those within the community once more lamenting how a fight between the two has failed to materialize, UFC boss, White has reiterated that a potential fight between Jones and Ngannou would never take place.

“It wouldn’t work,” Dana White said during an appearance on The Pat McAfee Show of a fight between Jon Jones and Francis Ngannou. “Francis was here [in the UFC], Jon Jones wanted that fight the whole time. We tried to make the fight with Francis… yeah.”

Winning vacant heavyweight spoils against common-foe, Gane back in March of this year in a triumphant return at UFC 285, Jones has yet to book his first title defense, however, has been linked with a comeback fight at UFC 294 in November – with a matchup against either Stipe Miocic or Sergei Pavlovich targeted for the Madison Square Garden event.
