PFL returns this Friday to kick off the 2024 playoffs with matchups from the heavyweight and women’s flyweight divisions. Before they can compete, they must weigh in today, and MMA News has the results here!

The main event is a heavyweight semifinal between Denis Goltsov and Tim Johnson. After suffering a defeat to 2023 PFL Heavyweight Champion Renan Ferreira last year, Goltsov has been motivated to earn another opportunity at the title. He earned his spot in the playoffs by defeating Linton Vassell and Thiago Santos by TKO during the 2024 regular season.

Everyone from the main card made weight successfully except for Liz Carmouche. She was over two pounds for her women’s flyweight bout against Taila Santos. However, the matchup is expected to still occur and Carmouche will lose a percentage of her purse.

DraftKings currently has the former Bellator heavyweight title contender as a +310 underdog. That said, Johnson has shown in his last three fights that he is still a threat at age 39. Both fighters are known to want to finish their opponents, so fans should be prepared for a potential early knockout.

Elsewhere on the card, Dakota Ditcheva will take on Jena Bishop in a women’s flyweight playoff bout. Ditcheva comes into the matchup undefeated with 12 wins and entered the season as one of the favorites to win the PFL women’s flyweight championship. Bishop will try to shock the MMA community by ending her win streak this Friday and advance to the final. However, it will be a difficult task as Ditcheva will have a significant height and reach advantage.

PFL 7 will occur at the Nashville Municipal Auditorium in Nashville, Tennessee. The main card will start at 9 PM ET/6 PM PT, while the preliminary card will kick the event off at 5:30 PM ET/2:30 PM PT.

Muhammad Mokaev

Muhammad Mokaev is adamant that he was not cut from the UFC for speaking to the PFL. The English athlete calls the journalist who reported this story an idiot. Mokaev confirms he was cut by the UFC, but would like to be re-signed by Dana White.

Muhammad Mokaev UFC Career

The 24-year-old ‘The Punisher’ Muhammad Mokaev has had an outstanding unbeaten career in the UFC and is currently on a seven-fight win streak in the organization. After winning multiple IMMAF gold medals, he turned pro, the English fighter has put together a spotless record of 13-0-0 1 NC.

The Russian-born Mokaev has a wrestling-heavy style that maybe does not appeal to everyone. After his UFC 304 victory, he was quickly cut by the UFC. Dana White, UFC President, said that the rival company the Profesional Fighters League will get a great unbeaten fighter. White also mentioned how ‘The Punisher’ is a bit of a boring fighter and doesn’t quite fit in the flyweight division.

Muhammad Mokaev cut from UFC because of the PFL

Recently, MMA journalist Ben Davis got an anonymous tip that the real reason Mokaev was cut from the UFC was due to his team negotiating with the PFL. Now, Muhammad Mokaev responded to these claims, calling the MMA journalist an idiot.

“My dream is to become UFC Champion,” Muhammad Mokaev said on X, “I turn them all down because UFC gave me the platform to put my name out there and earn money to feed my family! btw PFL don’t have flyweight division. All these journalists that make this shit up are idiots! I hope Dana re-signs me, this is my dream to become champion!”

Damon Martin, of MMA Fighting, added: “Muhammad Mokaev’s manager Tim Simpson tells me the rumor floating around that his UFC exit was brought on by negotiations with the PFL while still under contract are “completely false. No truth to that whatsoever.”

Muhammad Mokaev cut from UFC because of the PFL

The former UFC fighter Muhammad Mokaev was quickly dumped from the organization after his UFC 304 victory. With little notice or warning, the undefeated fighter was cut from the UFC. Rumors are now swirling that it may have had to do with him negotiating with the rival organization the PFL.

Muhammad Mokaev: UFC and the PFL

The 23-year-old Muhammad Mokaev, of England, is an impressive fighter with a stacked background. Before making his professional debut, he earned two gold medals in International Mixed Martial Arts Federation and ADCC Grappling. Since turning pro, in 2020, Mokaev has remained unbeaten in his thirteen fights.

With seven consecutive wins in the UFC’s flyweight division, including two performance bonuses, it seemed as though the young Mokaev would continue to be a hot prospect for the UFC. However, after defeating Manel Kape in Machester, England, he was cut by the UFC. Originally it was thought this was due to his wrestling-heavy style, which was not the most fan-friendly, now it seems that it may be due to negotiating with the Professional Fighters League.

UFC president Dana White alluded to this during the UFC 304 post-fight press conference when he said, “The matchmakers aren’t big fans of his for many different reasons. There’s a lot of people who shoot takedowns in this business, a lot of guys that fight with that type of style. But it’s a lot more than just that. He’s not under contract anymore. I think the PFL’s going to get a great undefeated guy. Good luck to him.”

According to the MMA reporter Ben Davis, he got insider info from an anonymous source and shared these direct messages on screen, that Mokaev and his team were looking to use negotiations with the PFL as leverage with the UFC. In this case, the UFC was not willing to negotiate. See the DM’s below.

After banking his 10th career win in boxing, Jake Paul wants to test out his skills in the world of MMA.

In January 2023, ‘The Problem Child’ signed a deal with the Professional Fighters League to help the promotion launch its anticipated Super Fight series on pay-per-view. Since then, it’s been pretty much radio silent regarding Paul’s PFL debut, but it looks like the YouTube star may have finally found a dance partner for his big premiere in the Smart Cage.

Jake Paul

Taking to social media following his sixth-round TKO against the BKFC’s undisputed ‘King of Violence’ Mike Perry in Tampa, Jake Paul revealed that the two have already agreed to run it back under the PFL banner “when the time is right.”

Jake Paul

“Chopped it up with Mike Perry last night. What a stand up dude. More confidence than most of these fighters. We agreed to run it in PFL when the time is right,” Paul wrote on X.”

Asked about running it back with Perry in bare-knuckle, Paul made it clear that if he’s going to temporarily leave boxing behind, it’ll be for MMA, though he did leave the door open for a fight with ‘Platinum’ in the BKFC star’s new Dirty Boxing Championship promotion.

Jake Paul

“If I’m stepping out of boxing, it’s going to be PFL,” Paul added. After that we can do Dirty Boxing.

Mike Perry Launches New Dirty Boxing Promotion

According to Perry, Dirty Boxing Championship will feature hybrid rules bouts that mix the striking of boxing with five-ounce gloves and limited ground-and-pound. Elbows and open-palm strikes will also be allowed according to Perry.

“This promotion has been in the works for over a year, and we started this because of my success in bare-knuckle,” Perry said at a press event. “I feel there that are many great fighters and athletes out there that would like to compete in something like this but don’t exactly want to compete in bare-knuckle and take the gloves off. There are a couple names that come to mind” (h/t MMA Fighting).

DBC bouts will be held in a smaller 18-foot ring and feature three three-minute rounds, with five rounds for championship fights.

Weigh classes are expected to mirror MMA’s traditional divisions with a launch date being targeted for September or October, though no official broadcast deal has been announced.

“I think this rule set is going to be the most exciting thing for the casual fan base that’s been put together,” said Josh McLean of Kanpai Media.

Jake Paul Reveals Verbal Agreement With Mike Perry To Rematch In PFL, Dirty Boxing Down The Line

Jake Paul recently agreed in principle to a rematch with Mike Perry, which could first take place in PFL and then in “Platinum’s” new hybrid boxing promotion, Dirty Boxing Championship, at some point in the future. “The Problem Child” delivered three knockdowns against the BKFC standout en route to sealing the victory with a relentless […]

Jake Paul recently agreed in principle to a rematch with Mike Perry, which could first take place in PFL and then in “Platinum’s” new hybrid boxing promotion, Dirty Boxing Championship, at some point in the future.

“The Problem Child” delivered three knockdowns against the BKFC standout en route to sealing the victory with a relentless onslaught that resulted in a sixth-round TKO this past Saturday at the Amalie Arena in Tampa, Florida.

Paul was initially set to face boxing legend Mike Tyson on July 20. However, after “Iron Mike” suffered an ulcer flare-up during a flight in May and was declared medically unfit, Perry answered the call to compete on short notice.

During the lead-up to their bout, the YouTuber-turned-boxer expressed a keen interest in potentially facing “Platinum” in either MMA or a bare-knuckle fight, determined to prove that he could defeat the former UFC welterweight fighter in any discipline.

However, in an interview with Ariel Helwani earlier this month, Perry dismissed the notion that Paul would ever seriously consider removing the gloves and facing him in a bare-knuckle fight.

Perry is anticipated to make his comeback to BKFC unless the promotion’s new co-owner, Conor McGregor, decides to act on his threat to fire him. Regardless, Perry’s future looks promising in combat sports, and it’s likely why Paul is eager for a rematch with him…

Paul Overlooks BKFC Fight with Perry Eyes PFL or Dirty Boxing Instead

“The Problem Child” recently took to X to shower Perry with praise for their boxing match, revealing that they have verbally agreed to a rematch under MMA rules in the PFL at an opportune moment.

“Chopped it up with Mike Perry last night. What a stand-up dude. More confidence than most of these fighters. We agreed to run it in PFL when the time is right.” Paul tweeted.

A fan commented on Paul’s post, questioning why the 27-year-old Ohio native didn’t consider fighting under bare-knuckle rules. Paul replied:

“If I’m stepping out of boxing, it’s going to be PFL. After that, we can do Dirty Boxing @PlatinumPerry”

In January 2023, Paul revealed that he had inked a deal with the PFL to compete in the special super-fight division. However, he has not yet to make his MMA debut, as his primary focus remains on his boxing career.

Exclusive | "F idiots who are in PFL" - Paddy Pimblett talks free agency: "They don't shut up about me."

Paddy Pimblett doesn’t have time for all the “idiots” playing around in the B Leagues.

From the moment Pimblett first stepped inside the Octagon in September 2021, it seemed like he was destined for fame and fortune. Three years and five fights later, ‘The Baddy’ has found exactly that, becoming one of the organization’s top stars out of the UK and building a three-million-strong fanbase on Instagram.

Paddy Pimblett

On July 27, Pimblett will return to the Octagon seeking his eighth-straight win and a spot in the lightweight top 15 when he meets division staple King Green at UFC 304.

Paddy Pimblett

Once their bout is in the books, Paddy Pimblett will become a free agent as Saturday’s scrap will be the final fight on his existing UFC contract. That realization has led to much speculation regarding Pimblett’s future, but don’t expect to see ‘The Baddy’ bail on Dana White and Co. anytime soon.

Speaking with Tim Wheaton in an exclusive interview on behalf of AceOdds.com, ‘The Baddy’ made it clear that he has no interest in leaving the “marquee promotion in the world” to join the “B Leagues.”

“I would not go to the B Leagues,” Pimblett said. “All the clowns in the B League talk about me. I have seen interviews lately of f*cking idiots who are in PFL. They don’t shut up about me. It’s f*cking embarrassing.

“I’m in the UFC, I’m in the marquee promotion in the world. You wish you were there saying, ‘Oh, I’ve gone to PFL for the money.’ No, you haven’t. You went to PFL because the UFC doesn’t want you. That’s why you went to PFL, you f*cking idiot.”

Paddy Pimblett

It’s probably safe to say that Pimblett will look to re-sign with the UFC no matter what happens in Manchester this weekend, but a win over Green will give him a whole lot of extra leverage at the negotiating table.

Paddy Pimblett’s underdog status diminishing ahead of UFC 304

The Baddy’ approaches his UFC 304 clash with Green as an underdog for the first time in his UFC career. Currently, Pimblett is sitting at -102 compared to his opponent who is slightly favored at -118.

Originally, Pimblett was a +160 on multiple sportsbooks.

Clearly, fans are feeling more confident in Pimblett’s ability to get the job done as fight night grows closer.
