Once upon a time UFC featherweight champion Conor McGregor was set to attempt to make UFC history by becoming the first man to hold two titles in different weight classes simultaneously, as he was scheduled to take on Rafael dos Anjos in the main event of UFC 196 for the 155-pound title.

Alas, dos Anjos would go on to suffer a foot injury in the midst of his training camp in preparation for the Irishman, and would be forced to pull out of the highly-anticipated contest.

rafael dos anjosIn comes Stockton bad boy Nate Diaz who would go on to hand McGregor the first loss of his UFC career, after Diaz locked up a rear-naked choke on the Irishman that forced him to quickly tap.

While dos Anjos would love to have been the man to hand the 145-pound champ his first loss in almost six-years, he still enjoyed seeing the brash Irishman crumble at the hands of Diaz.

In a recent media scrum (courtesy of MMAJunkie) to promote his upcoming UFC Fight Night 90 title bout with No. 2-ranked lightweight Eddie Alvarez, dos Anjos claimed that he initially believed McGregor would be the man emerging victorious when it was all said and done at UFC 196:

“I thought at first, McGregor would win. … Diaz, he didn’t have time to train at all,” said dos Anjos.

“Diaz took those shots and did not crumble, and I know how durable he is because I hit him with some good shots, too, … and McGregor gassed out.”

‘RDA’ also claimed that had he been the one standing across the Octagon from McGregor on March 5th, the finish would have come a lot sooner:

“Against me … [the finish] should be even earlier, I would hurt that guy,” dos Anjos said. “He will get hurt one day, and I think it will not be funny if I say something to him.”

If this fight happens down the road I will be there,” dos Anjos said. “If UFC thinks he deserves a lightweight shot I will be there.

I think money comes and goes. What comes easy, goes easy, and that would be an easy money.”

Conor McGregor 197The Brazilian also believes that McGregor tends to cross some boundaries when it comes to his trash-talking, which he is notoriously known for:

“I think sometimes he crosses the line a little bit … I will never do something similar,” said dos Anjos.“People [were asking] questions for me, [and] he answered for me. Actually he was working for me.”

Dos Anjos will collide with Alvarez in the main event of UFC Fight Night 90 live on UFC Fight Pass, from the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada on July 7, 2016.

Eddie Alvarez was one regarded as the top lightweight in the world when he was dominating foes in Bellator MMA.

Next month at UFC Fight Night 90, Alvarez will have the chance to secure his standing once more, as he meets Rafael dos Anjos for the title.

Since coming over to the UFC, Alvarez (27-4) has scored back-to-back decision victories vs. Anthony Pettis and Gilbert Melendez. In 2014, he lost his Octagon debut to Donald Cerrone.

Dos Anjos (25-7) is on a five-fight win streak that includes a finish over Cerrone and wins vs. Pettis, Nate Diaz and Benson Henderson.

“I don’t know if there’s going to be a single person or anything that’s going to be able to get in my way come that date,” said Alvarez, during an appearance on The MMA Hour. “Not a chance. I will not fail. I’m going to win this world title. I’ve told a lot of people this for a long time. I made a lot of promises. So, he’s good.

“I’m not taking a single thing away from him, the guy is good at what he does, but that night, there’s not much he’s going to be able to do (to stop) me from winning that world title. Not a single thing.”

UFC lightweight champion Rafael dos Anjos was scheduled to defend his  title against featherweight champion Conor McGregor in the main event of March 5’s UFC 196 in a bout that if won by McGregor would make the Irishman the UFC’s first fighter to hold two titles at one time.

Unfortunately, the fight never came to fruition, as dos Anjos was forced to withdraw from the fight due to an injury. Now healthy, the Brazilian will put his 155-pound title on the line on July 7, 2016 against Eddie Alvarez on UFC Fight Pass.

Despite the upcoming fight, however, dos Anjos does have high aspirations of his own that he’d like to hit. In fact, he’d like to eventually hold two titles himself, possibly moving up to welterweight in order to do so.

The Brazilian also admitted that he’d still be open to a scrap with McGregor:

“In the future, I want to have super-fights. I want to go to the weight class above,” he told Combate, per the Daily Star. “It Conor or it can be anyone. I‘ve been wanting to have two belts , why not? This is something that already goes through my head. I fought in 77 kg and is something I will do in the future.”

With the way dos Anjos has been performing as of late, a matchup between he and welterweight king Robbie Lawler would be a monumental fight to say the least.

Of course he obviously still has a plethora of challengers left in the crowded lightweight class, but potential super fights are on the horizon.

Who you would you rather see dos Anjos face? McGregor or Lawler?

Reigning UFC featherweight champion the “Notorious” Conor McGregor is coming off of his first Octagon loss at the hands of Nate Diaz in a welterweight bout at last March’s UFC 196 from Las Vegas, Nevada.

McGregor, a prolific knockout artist, was submitted in the second round by Diaz. All three of the Irishman’s career losses have come by way of submission, and his grappling skills have been highly criticized in the past.

In a recent twitter squabble, Diaz even referred to him as a ‘white belt’, although he’s technically a brown belt under his head coach John Kavanagh.

Diaz isn’t the only one to take a shot at McGregor, however, as reigning lightweight champion Rafael dos Anjos recently got in on the fun as well.

Dos Anjos was originally set to defend his 155-pound title against the “Notorious” one at UFC 196, but he was forced to withdraw with an injury.

Apparently the bad blood hasn’t settled between the two, and dos Anjos took to his official Instagram account today (May 5, 2016) to bash McGregor for apparently tying his jiu-jitsu belt incorrectly:

Are you still hoping to see the Irish knockout artist and the Brazilian dos Anjos clash at some point in the future?
