Video Roundup: The Five Most Memorable Insults in ‘TUF’ History

As we recently learned, the next season of The Ultimate Fighter will be coached by a grumpy mountain man who probably won’t spend any more time on set than he absolutely needs to, and a Brazilian dynamo whose grasp on the English language is limited to simple phrases like "I believe too much in my boxing" and "tub you are a cold — so we’re not expecting a verbal rivalry on par with Tito/Ken or Rampage/Rashad. Still, it’s TUF, so somebody’s gonna get told at some point. Can this season’s insults possibly stack up to some of our past favorites?

#5: "You’re like an expert swimmer who’s never been in a pool."

Matt Serra’s epic dress-down of Marc Laimon was his star-making moment — and a firm bitch-smack to every sideline-hater who talks tough without any intention of actually backing up his words. A year later, Serra was coaching that damn show.

#4: "Bro, you’re a male nurse."

Like a Katy Perry song, it’s annoying as hell, and yet you can’t get it out of your head. "Bro, you’re a male nurse" — I say that to all my friends now, no matter what their professions actually are. And it aggravates them too.

Those of you who were paying attention to Phil Davis’ Twitter account this week (and really, why wouldn’t you be?) already knew that the light heavyweight up-and-comer recently inked a bout agreement he was just dying to tell us all about. Now, it seems he won’t have to. Those damned internet websites are at it again, citing “sources close to the event” saying that Davis will take on Matt Hamill at the already stacked UFC 129 in Toronto. And why not? Hamill’s the dude the UFC traditionally likes to run up against its 205-pound prospects (and sometimes, its 205-pound graybeards) to see what they’ve really got in the tank. Makes sense to us.

Also on the horizon, it’s reported that fresh off showing his lack of social skills against Brandon Vera at UFC 125, Thiago Silva will step in the cage against Quinton “Rampage” Jackson at UFC 130. Both guys are coming off wins and it’s conceivable that the winner of that bout could be added to an ever-growing list of title contenders at 205-pounds.  But wait, that’s not all. After the jump some other alleged upcoming dates in the Octagon.

…at least in New York, he will be. Not sure what time it airs over by you, but I’d suggest checking your local listings and setting your DVR, because Quinton "Rampage" Jackson is about to be on Dr. Phil‘s daily scold-fest, where he’ll be lecturing some kids about gang violence. Hopefully Phil won’t butcher Quinton’s name, like he did to poor Kenny Florini.

Look, we don’t really have anything to give away right now, but Rampage tweeted out a photo from the taping, and it has "caption contest" written all over it. Hit us with a clever caption to the pic after the jump, and maybe I’ll send the winner a Starbucks card or something. (You pussies drink fancy coffee, right?)

When you’re trying to rank MMA fighters, it’s easy to say you’ll just rank them based on who they’ve beaten and who they’ve lost to inside the cage. It’s a lot harder to actually create the rankings when you realize that it’s mathematically impossible to rank every fighter ahead of the guys he’s beaten and behind the guys who have beaten him.

That’s the challenge of picking the No. 2 light heavyweight in the world right now. UFC light heavyweight champion Shogun Rua is No. 1, but there are three candidates for No. 2: Rampage Jackson, Lyoto Machida and Rashad Evans. And there’s simply no way to rank those three without putting one of them behind someone he’s beaten, and another one ahead of a man who has beaten him. Machida beat Evans, Evans beat Rampage, and Rampage beat Machida. Any way you slice it, someone has to get ranked ahead of someone who beat him in the cage.

So who’s No. 2? I make my choice below.

There were already some who questioned the outcome of the UFC 123 matchup between Quinton “Rampage” Jackson and Lyoto Machida in the seconds after the official decision was read in Jackson’s favor. Jackson opened the door for controversy even further when he admitted Machida “whipped” him in his post-fight comments (which by the way, he later recanted).

Machida seemed to take the decision without much protest, but he and his manager Ed Soares clearly believe that at least two of the judges erred in scoring it a split decision for Jackson.

“Lyoto thinks he won,” Soares said on Monday’s edition of The MMA Hour. “After the fight, he didn’t have any doubt. He was convinced he won the fight. It was a big shocker to him, too.”
