Before the MMA was “with it” in terms of marketing, each promotion gave their shows a slew of hilariously bad names. Unfortunately, this trend was the worst in the United States and it lasted for over a decade.

For some reason, it took the UFC (and others) a long while to figure out that titling the event after the main event fighters was fine with everybody. There didn’t need to be a lame, cliché, over-the-top name attached to every event.

Some names weren’t too bad but some were cringeworthy back then and are even worse when looked back upon now.

Each promotion had their own events that were egregiously bad—what are they? Read on and find out!

UFC 134 was this past weekend and it was the promotion’s first event held in Brazil in more than a decade.

It was clear that Brazil had been dearly missing the UFC, as the event sold out in under an hour.

Dana White has since spoken about how great the trip to Brazil was and how great the fans are down there.

It’s probably safe to say that the UFC will be making many more trips back to the Brazil in the coming years.

However, it’s a wonder whether or not these trips to Brazil will be like the UFC’s trips to England, Germany and Australia, by which I mean events held to appease the fans in those countries, but are not necessarily that successful.

The other possible outcome is that events in Brazil end up being very lucrative for the UFC, like most of their events in the USA and Canada.

Here’s six reasons why events in Brazil have just as much potential to make the UFC money as events held in Canada and the US…

At the event, fans got to see two highly anticipated rematches, Forrest Griffin vs. Mauricio “Shogun” Rua II and Anderson Silva vs. Yushin Okami II.

Neither fight disappointed and sent home those in the Brazilian crowd especially happy.

When the demand for it is right, and certain factors are taken into place, a rematch can be just as exciting if not more exciting than the first match.

Here are some fights that fans would love to see again.

Who can beat Anderson Silva?

This topic has been debated over and over again. Fighters that propose a great style match for the pound-for-pound kingpin have stepped up and been dispatched of like first class amateurs.

Like many great fighters, Silva has an aura that mesmerizes even his peers. His opponents tend to sit back and watch what he does instead of implementing their own game plans.

For example, Yushin Okami, a strong grappler, only made one half-hearted attempt at a takedown in his UFC 134 bout against Silva. He basically sat there as Silva danced on the outside and landed the inevitable punch that would end the fight.

After cleaning out all of the notable challengers in the middleweight division, Silva is left at a crossroads of rematches and jumping weight classes.

It’s tough to see Silva lose at this point, but as long as he keeps fighting, his time will come to take the inevitable plunge like the other all-time greats before himself.

If given the opportunity, here are five fighters with the best chance to squash “The Spider.”

The 15 Seminal Moments of Dana White’s Career

Whether you believe he’s the scourge of humanity, the savior of MMA or somewhere in the yawning middle, UFC President Dana White has carved his likeness into the face of MMA like he was Teddy Roosevelt in the South Dakota granite.

Here are the most seminal moments in White’s long-and-winding road to the throne of the UFC and the world of mixed martial arts. I’m not saying they were good. I’m not saying they were bad. I’m just saying they were influential.

Ranking someone’s most seminal decisions and achievements is a little like nailing pudding to a wall. To try and narrow it down a bit, I stayed away from individual fighter signings, instead homing in on White’s personal and business arcs.

How did he get where he is today? What are some of the specific actions, both deliberate and fortuitous, that shaped his career? How has White helped MMA explode in popularity, with the promotion he runs at the crest of the wave?

Now, White is far from flawless, and I don’t want to sweep his warts under the rug or imply he can do no wrong. At the same time, though, history shows that, a lot of the time, he does get it right.

I can’t imagine a slideshow of this nature drawing any controversy, but given the highly subjective nature of this and the fact that there are probably more than 15 seminal moments, please add your voice in the comments if you care to do so.

Thanks for reading.

With his appearance as coach on Season 14 of The Ultimate Fighter on the horizon, Michael Bisping has secured his future with the UFC by extending his contract with the world’s premier MMA organization.

MMA Junkie reported on the deal that will see Bisping compete in at least eight fights after his scheduled bout with fellow The Ultimate Fighter coach Jason Miller.

Of course, Bisping’s ability to complete that contract will depend on his ability to continue winning fights.

Here are eight fights we’d all like to see Bisping take after his tilt with Miller.
