(A year is a long time to wait to get beaten up.)

The UFC announced that the long-rumored light heavyweight title bout between champ Mauricio "Shogun" Rua and former champ Rashad Evans as well as a bantamweight contender bout between former WEC featherweight champion Urijah Faber and former bantamweight champion Eddie Wineland will act as co-main events for UFC 128 Saturday March 19 in Newark, New Jersey.

According to the UFC.com, the event, which will take place at the Prudential Center, will also feature a featherwight match-up between Joseph Benevidez and Ian Loveland as well as a pair of lightweight showdowns pitting Kurt Pellegrino against Gleison Tibau and Edson Barbosa against Anthony Njokuani.

Although they have yet to be officially announced, the event, which was originally being planned for Abu Dhabi, will purportedly also include a welterweight scrap between Mike Pyle and Ricardo Almeida as well as a heavyweight tilt between Mirko "Cro Cop" Filipovi?  and Brendan Schaub.

Every photo tells a story and the best ones capture the complexities of the subject and situation in ways words can’t always depict.

Between our two lead photographers, Daniel Herbertson and Esther Lin, there were more than an handful of memorable imagery collected this past year on MMAFighting.com. Daniel captured all the great action in the Japanese MMA scene, while Esther was just as tireless, shooting nearly all the major U.S. events from cageside.

As we close out 2010, we asked Esther to narrow down her UFC favorites from her personal collection (Note: Daniel’s Japanese MMA favorites will be published next week). So without further ado, below are Esther’s 13 favorite shots accompanied by her observations.

Georges St. Pierre remains the best fighter in all of mixed martial arts, regardless of weight class.

There are arguments, to be sure, for other fighters, namely middleweight champ Anderson Silva or featherweight champ Jose Aldo, getting the No. 1 spot. Most of those arguments center around the fact that Silva and Aldo are finishers, while St. Pierre tends to win decisions.

I’m sympathetic to those arguments, but what St. Pierre does in his decision victories is amazing: In his four decisions as the UFC welterweight champion, the 12 judges have turned in scorecards of 50-45, 50-45, 50-45, 50-43, 50-44, 50-45, 50-44, 50-45, 50-45, 50-44, 50-44 and 50-43. It doesn’t get more dominant than that.

So St. Pierre remains on top. Find out the rest of the Top 10 below.

If you missed last night’s episode of MMA Live, not to worry, we got you covered, mang.

If you couldn’t be bothered to actually watch it and expect us to give you the pertinent stuff in a nutshell, we got you covered there, too.

Here’s what you missed:

Kenny Florian says he would be interested in a fight with Jim Miller at UFC 129 in Toronto if his injured knee (which did not require surgery to repair a torn meniscus and ACL) heals in time.

– Bjorn Rebney says that the new Bellator deal with MTV will ensure that their events are not pre-empted if they go over their broadcast time, which will be the same each week.

– Rebney also said that despite his efforts the Strikeforce co-promoted Gilbert Melendez-Eddie Alvarez match-up is pretty much dead in the water at this point.

– Junior Dos Santos has been training his Muay Thai with Brandon Vera at Alliance in San Diego.

– Dos Santos has said that he is planning to keep his championship bout with UFC heavyweight champ Cain Velasquez (which is rumored to be slated for the April show in Toronto) standing.

– Both Rashad Evans and Ken-Flo believe that their teammate Georges St-Pierre will fight Jake Shields in Toronto.

According to a new report from Sportsnet, the UFC light-heavyweight title fight between Mauricio "Shogun" Rua and Rashad Evans is expected to headline a March 19th event at the Prudential Centre in Newark, New Jersey. Tito Ortiz’s last-last chance against Antonio Rogerio Nogueira is also slated for the show. Both fights had been previously tied to a March return to Abu Dhabi, leading to speculation that the event might not happen at all. As UFC U.K. president Marshall Zelaznik said back in November:

"I know there’s been talk of March 19 potentially happening. While we’re looking at delivering a pay-per-view (event) around that time, nothing’s been defined in terms of whether Abu Dhabi gets it or someone else."

March 2011 is already a busy month for the UFC, with UFC on Versus 3 slated to take place on 3/3 and a possible UFC Fight Night event on 3/26. In March 2010, Newark hosted UFC 111: St. Pierre vs. Hardy, which drew a passionate East Coast fan contingent. Until New York gets its head out of its ass, this might be the closest thing to an annual NYC event that we’ll get.
