The MMA world is currently buzzing with the news that former welterweight champion Georges St-Pierre wants to make a comeback to the UFC after a three year break from fighting.
Given his past success, there’s every chance that if and when he does return, GSP will be able to win back his title and reclaim his spot at the summit of the pound-for-pound rankings.
However, nothing is certain in this rapidly evolving sport, and as you’ll see in this article, over the years there’s been many occasions where stars have returned to the cage after a lengthy absence, only to have their dreams of recapturing past glories quickly turn into the stuff of nightmares.
As 2016 rolls on, more and more people keep saying that former UFC welterweight champion Georges St-Pierre will return to MMA this year. As 2016 rolls on, more and more people keep saying that former UFC welterweight champion Georges St-Pierre will return to MMA this year.
St-Pierre has talked about coming back to MMA since retiring but has not done so yet. He decided to take a break from MMA following his split-decision victory over Johny Hendricks at UFC 167. St-Pierre did a six-week training camp in late 2015. Once that camp was over, he would decide if he is able to comeback to MMA at the age of 34. “GSP” never made an announcement.
We noted earlier on the site that St-Pierre was sitting front row at UFC 196, and this led to speculation that he could be returning to the UFC. UFC President Dana White later confirmed that he has talked with “GSP” but did not give any insight into a possible return of the MMA legend.
“He’s [St-Pierre is] coming back for sure,” Gracie said. “That boy, the best thing he does in life is fighting. Look for how long he’s been a champion. He overcame so many obstacles. Many people don’t know Georges would come from Canada, leave at 4, 4:30 in the morning, come to New York by bus, train the whole day and leave at night – this two, sometimes three times a week.
“A champion is not just born. He’s forged into it. And Georges has all the tools to become champion again, and for sure, he’s now 100 percent healthy. I saw him, he’s in unbelievable shape, and for sure he will be announcing soon to be back in the game.”
When asked who he thinks GSP should fight when he returns, Gracie believes it should be the current welterweight champion, which is Robbie Lawler.
“Whoever is the champion I think [should be next for St-Pierre],” Gracie said. “He deserves it. He’s earned it, his life work [should give him] a straight shot to the champion, whoever it is.”
World-renowned trainer Renzo Gracie has a special student on his hands at the moment in Shane McMahon.
That’s right, the son of WWE icon Vince McMahon is set to make his return to professional wrestling at the upcoming WrestleMania card against “The Undertaker.”
McMahon is chairman and principal executive officer of YOU on Demand Holdings, Inc. after leaving the “family business” of pro wrestling in 2010.
Gracie is a 6th-degree black belt in Brazilian jiu-jitsu and has fought 22 times in MMA, winning 13 bouts.

UFC Hall of Famer Stephan Bonnar hasn’t made it easy for himself departing the largest MMA organization in the world. Apart from drug test woes and being involved in one of the most masochistic segments we’ve ever had to witness on broadcast television before his Bellator 131 snorefest of the year battle against Tito Ortiz (which he lost by split decision), “The American Psycho” surprised and saddened many followers over the weekend into thinking he was live-tweeting an arrest for DUI.
Below are some of the UFC legend’s fighter’s tweets, mentioning he was pulled over and broke his nine-month reign of sobriety (the tweets have been deleted, so props to MMA Junkie for the transcriptions):

Bonnar later admitted during Sunday afternoon that this was an “April Fool’s Joke,” and that his run-in with the police was in fact a true story from college.
I’m not sure what’s worse: giving us a rundown of how you beat the cops during your wasted youth at Purdue University in 1998, or joking about a pretty serious matter that takes the lives of innocent people every day.
At this point in his career, it’s not exactly the time to make funnies coming off a loss to the most injury-prone fighter in the universe, more or less wasting a golden opportunity to stay relevant. Did someone tell Bonnar that we drank a boatload of alcohol while watching his main event fight this past November, and that sometimes, substances don’t solve all your problems?

You gotta hand it to the folks over at Metamoris; in two short years, Ralek Gracie & Co. have managed to book some of the most intriguing Jiu-Jitsu matches outside of an ADCC tournament. Bringing guys like Chael Sonnen, Josh Barnett, and Eddie Bravo into the fold has helped the oft overlooked sport a wider audience than it has ever received, and it looks like Metamoris will continue that trend with their fifth event, which features quite possibly their best main event matchup so far.
Yesterday afternoon, the submission-only grappling promotion announced the lineup for Metamoris 5, which goes down on November 22nd, and it looks a little something like this:
Renzo Gracie vs Kazushi Sakuraba
Rory MacDonald vs J.T. Torres
Yuri Simoes vs Rafael Lovato Jr
Vinny Magalhaes vs Kevin Casey
Garry Tonon vs Zak Maxwell
Secret Match
Yes, you read that correctly: Renzo Gracie. Kazushi “The Gracie Hunter” Sakuraba. Rory MacDonald. Vinny Magalhay-eyes. Tell them what we think of this lineup, Philip J. Fry.
As any MMA fan with even an ounce of dignity knows, the main event will serve as a rematch of sorts to Sakuraba and Gracie’s Pride 10 match, which saw Sakuraba break Gracie’s arm like a goddamn chicken wing with 17 seconds left in the second round. While both men’s MMA careers have taken something of a downswing in the time since, the heat behind this matchup should be at a fever pitch. Should Sakuraba emerge victorious, expect to see Royce Gracie get all up in his grill backstage like the true professional he is.
