Eagle FC 44: Spong vs. Kharitonov took place tonight from the FLXcast Arena in Miami, Florida.

In the main event, undefeated boxer Tyrone Spong sought to go 3-0 in his MMA career when he took on Sergei Kharitonov, who entered with a total of 42 MMA fights and a record of 33-9. Spong is 14-0 as a pro boxer and also has kickboxing experience.

In the co-main event, “Suga” Rashad Evans competed for the first time since his “retirement” in 2018 after losing to Anthony Smith. Evans came into the fight on a three-fight losing streak after falling to Sam Alvey and Daniel Kelly prior to his loss to Smith. Evans took on Gabriel Checco, who entered with a record of 12-5. Most recently, Checco defeated Simon Marini via unanimous decision last October.

UFC 270 goes down tonight (Sat. January 22, 2022) from Anaheim, California at the Honda Center and we have the results. The world’s leading mixed martial arts (MMA) promotion compiled an excellent card for fight fans to enjoy. 

It’s headlined by a meeting between Francis Ngannou and Ciryl Gane in a heavyweight title bout.

Ngannou entered this fight on a five-bout winning streak. He scored three straight first-round KO wins over the likes of Curtis Blaydes in November 2018, Cain Velasquez in February 2019, and Junior Dos Santos in June 2019. He previously knocked out Jairzinho Rozenstruik at UFC 249 before knocking out Stipe Miocic to win the UFC heavyweight title at UFC 260. 

Gane picked up a few wins under the TKO banner where he finished all of his fights before going to the UFC. He beat Raphael Pessoa by submission in his promotional debut with the UFC. He got decision, submission and KO victories. He beat Jairzinho Rozenstruik at UFC Vegas 20 by decision and then over Alexander Volkov at UFC Vegas 30th by decision. He won the interim title with a TKO win over Derrick Lewis at UFC 265.

The co-headliner will see a flyweight title bout between Brandon Moreno and Deiveson Figueiredo.

Their first fight took place at UFC 256 in December 2020 where they went to a majority draw. Their second fight was the UFC 263 co-main event in June 2021 where Moreno locked in a rear-naked choke for the win to become the new champion.

Michel Pereira vs. André Fialho in a welterweight fight, Cody Stamann vs. Said Nurmagomedov in a bantamweight bout, and Rodolfo Vieira vs. Wellington Turman in a welterweight bout finishes out the main card.

Taking main event honors in the first UFC event of the year: a high-stakes featherweight showdown between the #5 ranked contender, Calvin Kattar, and the #8 rated challenger, Giga Chikadze.

Making his first Octagon appearance in a year, Kattar most recently headlined UFC on ABC 1 back in January of last year against former undisputed featherweight champion, Max Holloway.

Taking main event status at the ‘Fight Island’ event, Kattar suffered a hugely one-sided, damaging unanimous decision loss to the Hawaii native — snapping a two-fight winning run.

Turning in an impressive 2020, the Massachusetts native stopped featherweight staple, Jeremy Stephens with a second round knockout, before defeating Dan Ige in his first main event bout under the promotion’s banner in a July UFC Fight Island 1 pairing.

For Tibilisi striking standout, Chikadze, he also prevailed with an impressive victory in his first main event bout back in August at UFC Vegas 35, handing Muay Thai ace, Edson Barboza a stunning third round knockout.

7-0 since debuting in the UFC back in September 2019, the Georgian also holds promotional wins over Cub Swanson, Omar Morales, and Brandon Davis to name a few.

It’s headlined by a meeting between Calvin Kattar and Giga Chikadze in a featherweight bout. 

Kattar entered this fight after dropping a decision loss to Max Holloway in January 2021. Before that he had picked =up a decision win over Dan Ige in July 2020 and a TKO win over Jeremy Stephens at the UFC 249 pay-per-view event from Jacksonville, Florida at the VyStar Veterans Memorial Arena. This was prior to him dropping a decision loss to Zabit Magomedsharipov at the UFC Moscow event and then Kattar blitzed Ricardo Lamas his way to victory at the UFC 238 pay-per-view event from the United Center in Chicago, Illinois where he won by TKO. 

Chikadze was on a nine-fight winning streak heading into this bout including a TKO win over Edson Barboza in August 2021, decision wins over Irwin Rivera and Omar Morales. His previous fights saw him beat Jamey Simmons by TKO in November 2020 and Cub Swanson in May 2021 by TKO.

The co-headliner will see a heavyweight bout between Jake Collier and Chase Sherman. Katlyn Chookagian vs. Jennifer Maia in a women’s flyweight bout, Brandon Royval vs. Rogerio Bontorin in a flyweight fight, Viacheslav Borshchev vs. Dakota Bush in a lightweight bout and Bill Algeo vs. Joanderson Brito in a featherweight bout finishes out the main card.

It’s headlined by a meeting between Derrick Lewis and Chris Daukaus in a heavyweight bout. 

Lewis was coming off a loss to Ciryl Gane by TKO in an interim heavyweight title fight at the UFC 265 PPV event. Before that, Lewis got a TKO win over Aleksei Oleinik in August 2020, beat Ilir Latifi by decision at the UFC 247 pay-per-view event on February 8, 2020, and then beat Curtis Blaydes by TKO at UFC Vegas 19.

Before that, Lewis beat Blagoy Ivanov at the UFC 244 pay-per-view event from Madison Square Garden in New York City, New York prior to him losing by second-round TKO to former UFC heavyweight champion Junior Dos Santos in the headliner of UFC on ESPN + 4 on March 9, 2019 from Intrust Bank Arena in Wichita, Kansas. 

Daukaus entered this fight with a 5-fight winning streak and a 12-3 pro-MMA record. Victories in his past five fights were over the likes of Danny Holmes, Parker Porter, Rodrigo Nascimento, Aleksei Oleinik, and Shamil Abdurakhimov. All of those fights ended in TKO/KO. 

The co-headliner will see a welterweight bout between Stephen Thompson and Belal Muhammad. Amanda Lemos vs. Angela Hill in a women’s strawweight fight, Mateusz Gamrot vs. Carlos Diego Ferreira in a lightweight bout, and Cub Swanson vs. Darren Elkins in a featherweight bout finishes out the main card.

Taking main event status, an undisputed lightweight title fight between the defending champion, Charles Oliveira, and the #1 ranked former interim gold holder, Dustin Poirier.

Sao Paulo submission ace, Oliveira attempts his first defense of the lightweight title following his championship coronation back in May via a second round knockout win over Michael Chandler to clinch the vacant crown.

For Poirier, the Lafayette native attempts to clinch the undisputed lightweight crown at the second time of trying, and enters off the back of a splendid 2020 which brought with it a pair of victories against former two-weight champion, Conor McGregor.

In the night’s co-headliner, the undisputed bantamweight championship is up for grabs as two-weight gold holder, Amanda Nunes returns to the limit for the first time in two years as she welcomes the #3 ranked contender, Julianna Pena in her first title surge under the promotion’s banner.

Nunes’ last outing came in March of this year back at UFC 259 where she stopped Megan Anderson with a first round triangle armbar win to secure her second featherweight title defense.

For Pena, the Washington native returned to the winner’s enclosure back on ‘Fight Island’ in January where she stopped Sara McMann with a third round rear-naked choke.
