Roy Nelson, who fights Derrick lewis at UFC Fight Night 90 on July 7th in Las Vegas, Nevada, has always been outspoken and now the heavyweight fighter is calling out former champ Brock Lesnar, who fights Mark Hunt at UFC 200 on July 9th, for a fight down the line.

According to Nelson, he thinks a fight with Lesnar would not only beat out the pay-per-view buyrate of UFC 200 but also UFC 100, which is the biggest buyrate that a UFC PPV event has ever done.

“After I get through Derrick (Lewis) and Brock still wants to fight, I’ll definitely fight and it will probably be the biggest pay-per-view of all time. We’ll blow Conor McGregor, UFC 100 and even UFC 200 out of the water.”

“Because of our styles, the style I fight, Brock Lesnar’s name and the way I market myself and now with the UFC push behind me, it would get pushed to a whole new freaking level,” Nelson told FOX Sports. “I’d definitely take that fight. It’s definitely a money fight. In the heavyweight division, that’s the Conor McGregor,” Nelson said. “He just brings a whole other audience. It would be like Tom Cruise if Tom Cruise said he wanted to fight or Shaquille O’Neal, it’s just somebody that’s so out there and well known.”

Nelson might want to win his fight against Lewis and then wait and see how Lesnar does against Hunt. It’s not clear if Lesnar even plans to fight again after UFC 200.

It’s hardly a secret that mixed martial arts (MMA) fans watch the UFC for its heart-pumping knockouts that its most revered stars produce in high-pressure situations.

True, some may watch the UFC for its combination of power and skill, and others still may tune in for their own appreciation of wrestling and/or grappling, but if you were to poll every fight fan out there, you’d most likely receive an overwhelming response that most fans love MMA for the exhilarating knockouts.

That makes the fighters who often knock their opponents out obvious fan favorites, and indeed many have died by the sword attempting to become one of these crowd-pleasing stars. Roy Nelson Wants Title Shot Against Stipe Miocic, Says UFC “Owes Him”

When Stipe Miocic beat Fabricio Werdum to become the new UFC Heavyweight Champion at UFC 198 in Curitiba, Brazil earlier this month, it inspired fellow UFC Heavyweight Roy “Big Country” Nelson.

Roy Nelson spoke about watching Miocic win the heavyweight title from Werdum during his appearance on “The MMA Hour” at MMAFighting.com last week.

“All I know is that Stipe gave me inspiration because if Stipe can be that UFC champion, and they actually gave him a title shot, then I’m like, ‘Ah, I do have a chance,'” Nelson told show-host Ariel Helwani.

“Big Country” continued, talking about the style that Miocic used to beat Werdum, referring to it as “point fighting,” a style he felt Miocic also used to win a unanimous decision over him when they fought inside the Octagon.

“He did the point fighting with me too,” Nelson said. “He ran. You can actually see him, you know, like the people who are track stars. But I would love to fight Stipe again, especially now, because he’s the champ, and with a full camp. I would love a full camp.”

Before he can challenge Miocic for the title, Nelson must first get through his next challenge, UFC Heavyweight contender Derrick Lewis. According to “Big Country,” Lewis reminds him of an old Fedor Emelianenko.

“The one thing about Derrick is that he reminds me of a bigger version of Fedor, like when he gets that ground-and-pound going he’ll just beat you up,” Nelson explained. “And then, the one thing is that he’s calm, cool and collected when you take him down, and you know, he just muscles back up and puts the wrath on. The one thing I like is that he comes to fight. That’s what makes him fan friendly.”

Nelson concluded, “Stipe has the belt, then Stipe. I just think the UFC owes it to me to give me a full camp to beat him up. But I’m not worried about that right now. All I care about is Derrick.”

Roy “Big Country” Nelson fights Derrick Lewis at UFC Fight Night 90 on July 7, 2016. UFN 90 is headlined by a UFC Lightweight title fight between Rafael dos Anjos and Eddie Alvarez.

Fabricio Werdum had the opportunity of a lifetime in the main event of last weekend’s (May 14, 2016) UFC 198 from his home of Brazil.

Attempting to make the first defense of his UFC heavyweight title, Werdum faced off with Stipe Miocic in front of forty-thousand plus screaming Brazilian fans. Unfortunately for “Vai Cavalo”, however, he was knocked out by Miocic in the very first round, a stoppage that left the crowd silent.

Fellow heavyweight slugger Roy “Big Country” Nelson feels as if the crowd played a part in Werdum losing his title:

“I think it was the Brazilian crowd of 45,000 people,” Nelson said. “You’re like, ‘Dude, I want to make some things happen. I want to make fireworks.’ And when you do fireworks for the fans, you want to put a show for the fans, you just kind of sometimes get a little over anxious. I know that feeling.” Nelson told MMAFighting.com.

Nelson, while not taking anything away from Miocic, further criticized Werdum, saying that the Brazilian’s strategy wasn’t so ‘bright’:

“I was impressed that he knocked Werdum out because I didn’t see that coming, but at the same time, when you got a 240-pound man running at you, and you just stick your hand out, you’re definitely going to hurt somebody.

“No, I don’t think it was a lucky punch. I just think Werdum wasn’t so bright because he was just very like, ‘just stand there, man. Just fight.’ Nelson said. “He just ran at him.”

Do you agree with “Big Country’s” assessment?

The soon-to-be 40-year-old Nelson (21-12) snapped a three-fight losing skid in February with a decision win over Jared Rosholt. “Big Country” has gone 4-5 over his last nine, with the defeats coming to Josh Barnett, Alistair Overeem, Mark Hunt, UFC light heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier and Stipe Miocic.

Of those five losses, four of them went to a decision, with only Hunt finishing Nelson early.
