Francis Ngannou tipped to fight Ryan Bader in potential PFL debut that could be interesting

Off the back of his monumental signing with the PFL (Professional Fighters League) earlier this month, former undisputed UFC heavyweight champion, Francis Ngannou has been tipped to potentially face a host of heavyweight talents and champions the world over – by former UFC welterweight title challenger, Dan Hardy.

Ngannou, a former undisputed heavyweight champion under the banner of the UFC, departed the promotion back in January of this year following the completion of his contractual obligations with the organization last December, electing against signing a new contract with the Dana White-led promotion

Francis Ngannou departed the UFC in less than ceremonious circumstances

Expected to make his return to active competition in mixed martial arts next year with the PFL, Batié native, Francis Ngannou is expected to pursue a professional boxing debut later this year before a return to mixed martial arts competition.

Yet to book a debut opponent, Francis Ngannou has been touted as potential opponents for ONE Championship heavyweights, the current Bellator heavyweight titleholder, as well as talents under the scrutiny of the PFL.

“I’m excited at the possibilities,” Dan Hardy told The Sportsman during a recent interview. “I think there are a few options. There are other heavyweights out there in other promotions. Over in ONE Championship, we’ve got Arjan Bhullar, and Anatoly Malykhin, who would be great fights. Ryan Bader over in Bellator I think could be an interesting one. Someone else that’s very athletic and brings speed and wrestling ability to the division.”

“But, Ante Delija feels like a very good pick as well,” Hardy continued. “We’ve got some good heavyweights; [Bruno] Cappelozza. There are good heavyweights on the PFL roster right now that I feel, with maybe another two or three fights, they’ll be in a position to step forward.” (Transcribed by MMA News)

Ahead of filming of The Ultimate Fighter 31 in the coming days and weeks, UFC lightweight contender, Michael Chandler has assembled his team to serve as backing coaches for his reality television programe offing with former two-weight champion, Conor McGregor.

Chandler, the current #5 ranked UFC lightweight contender, will make his debut as a coach on The Ultimate Fighter 31 this year – coaching opposite Dublin star, McGregor, ahead of an end-of-season showdown between the duo, which has been floated for September at the welterweight limit.

Attempting to bounce back to the winner’s enclosure against the Crumlin native, Michael Chandler, a staple of Kill Cliff FC in Deerfield Beach, Florida – most recently suffered a submission loss to common-foe, Dustin Poirier at UFC 281 last November.

The Missouri native has, however, assembled a star-studded team of coaches ahead of filming for this season, including teammate and Bellator MMA heavyweight champion, Ryan Bader – who is fresh from a second career victory over Fedor Emelianenko earlier this month.

Also planted firmly in Michael Chandler’s corner is renowned grappling coach and submission threat, Robert Drysdale, Kill Cliff FC wrestling staple, Greg Jones, and boxing coach, Jason Strout.

As for McGregor, the former undisputed lightweight and featherweight champion has assembled a team consisting of long-time head coach and Straight Blast Gym frontman, John Kavanagh, as well as striking coach, Owen Roddy, and Muay Thai striker, Cian Cowley for TUF 31. Moldovan wrestling ace, Sergey Pikulsky has also travelled to Las Vegas, Nevada as part of the Dubliner’s set of coaches.

Back in 2015, McGregor served as a coach on The Ultimate Fighter 22 against former WEC featherweight champion, Urijah Faber – with the Dubliner previously capturing an interim featherweight title with a win over Faber’s Team Alpha MMA training partner, Chad Mendes that summer.

Despite a tough loss to Ryan Bader at Bellator 290, the legendary Fedor Emelianenko is still content with his decision to retire from mixed martial arts.

With a career spanning over two decades, the Russian icon has played a pivotal role in the history of the sport. From his legendary battles in Pride FC, Strikeforce, and even the wildly controversial but short-lived fight brand Affliction, Emelianenko has done it all and left his mark on the MMA world forever.

While he will go down as one of the greatest fighters of all time, he is a special case because he never fought in what many consider the world’s greatest fight league: the UFC. However, despite this, it’s no question to virtually everybody in the MMA world that ‘The Last Emperor’ is one of if not the greatest heavyweights of all time.

Father time is an un-escapable assailant, though, and he conquers all. Even Fedor Emelianenko. This was sadly evident at Bellator 290, where Ryan Bader would deliver a brutal beat down on the legend. ‘The Last Emperor’ would take it with grace, though, and despite his claims that he feels he could’ve beat Bader, he still went out with dignity and is seemingly done for good with the unforgiving sport of MMA.

An emperor’s last dance, Fedor Emelianenko calls it quits at Bellator 290

Ryan Bader would finish Emelianenko just two and a half minutes into the first round via ground-and-pound TKO. Despite the brutal ending to his storied career, ‘The Last Emperor’ still went out with grace.

“I feel great. He hit me a few times, but I didn’t lose consciousness. I felt everything,” Fedor Emelianenko began, speaking at the post-fight press conference (H/T Sherdog).

“I’m getting older,” He continued. “My age [helped make my decision]. Plus, all my injuries from the past, they start to remind me of them. My body doesn’t feel the same way as it used to. The only thing [I’d do differently], I could have beat Ryan Bader, but it didn’t happen.”

“I was really happy to see all the legends, all the fighters,” he said. Alluding to the fact that many MMA legends were in attendance to watch Emelianenko’s last battle. “With some of them, I shared the ring. With some of them, I watched and learned from them. It was great to have them come and support me.”

Fedor Emelianenko would go on to mention his trademark stoicism. Something that became his brand, basically. As he approached every fight with a stone-cold demeanor. While also talking at every pre and post-fight conference or interview with that same stone-cold attitude. He performed for the world for two decades with that same spirit, as if he was unfazed by the insane talent he would do battle against.

“I take everything as it happens. If I win, lose, it doesn’t really matter. That’s how it has to happen,” he said. “You saw today, the whole arena was cheering for me. I get my popularity and my fan base based on my actions inside the cage, not because I was doing trash talk and talking bad about my opponents.”

Are you sad to see Fedor Emelianenko retire, despite it being his time to do so?
