Jon Jones Might Want to Think Long and Hard About This Whole Movie Acting Thing

(Video courtesy of YouTube/MMAHeat)

Hopefully  for Jon Jones’ sake the UFC fighter film curse doesn’t extend to him.

As we mentioned over the weekend, the UFC light heavyweight champion told Karyn Bryant last week that he was at Warner Bros. for a meeting to discuss the possibility of starring in one of the company’s upcoming  films. Looking back at his fellow UFC fighters’ track records after starring in movies, “Bones” might want to think long and hard about whether or not he wants to become an actor at this point in his career.

An explanation after the jump.

Here’s the proof:

• When The Scorpion King 2 was released in  2008, Randy Couture  lost back to back fights to Brock Lesnar and Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira. Sure, he beat James Toney the same month that The Expendables was released, but since that one was more like a light sparring session we’ll look at the Machida fight as being the one that counts.

• Chuck Liddell dropped two straight to Quinton Jackson and Keith Jardine after The Life and Death of Bobby Z was released in 2007 and lost three in a row to Rashad Evans, Mauricio Rua and Rich Franklin after Drillbit Taylor hit theatres in 2008.

• After Cyborg Soldier was released, Rich Franklin lost to Dan Henderson.

• Quinton Jackson lost to Rashad Evans after Never Surrender was released. He won his first fight after the release of A-Team, but the split decision over Lyoto Machida was hotly contested and could have just as easily have gone to “The Dragon.”

• Tito Ortiz lost his next two fights and Chuck Liddell lost his UFC interim light heavyweight title bout to Randy Couture after Cradle 2 the Grave hit theatres in 2003.

• Ortiz hasn’t won a fight since appearing in Zombie Strippers in 2008.

• Keith Jardine lost four in a row and was dropped from the UFC roster after Crank: High Voltage came out in 2009.

*As an aside, Karyn likes CP and thinks we’re hilarious….

Keyboard Warriors: No Suit For Tito

Happy Monday, Nation. We hope you had a good weekend. No, really, we hope you’re in a good mood, since we’re presenting the second installment of Keyboard Warrior. Hopefully everyone had naked funtime last night, slept like a baby, and had a great breakfast this morning. Otherwise, we imagine there will be lots of very not-nice things in the comments.

We’ve changed up the appearance of KBW, making it look more like a typical MMA forum, complete with the kind of critical information any Keyboard Warrior should have for important discussion, like join date and number of posts. Maybe now it won’t seem like we’re blatantly ripping off other peoples’ ideas.

You can read the first episode here (all two pages of it), check out number two, and then you’re welcome to leave suggestions, ideas, and odes to our greatness below.

Thanks again to WithLeather and @MrBrandonStroud for letting us blatantly rip off their ideas.

UFC 131 Results: 10 Million-Dollar Predictions for the UFC 132 Fight Card

Bleacher Report’s Dale De Souza:

UFC 131 is in the books, capped off beautifully by an outstanding Heavyweight war between Junior “Cigano” dos Santos and Shane Carwin on a night where the judging issue started to raise malevolent mentalities in the minds of the fans.

Arguably, many fans believe that while the victories of Mark Munoz and Kenny Florian cannot provide true dispute, The argument of Munoz and Florian earning 30-27 scores is definitely disputed as it seemed clear that Demian Maia and Diego “The Gun” Nunes won the first round of their respective bouts.

At this time, however, that argument is neither here nor there, as we must look forward into UFC 132 in a little bit less than three weeks instead of solidly planting ourselves in the memories of last night.

Headlined by a grudge match between current UFC Bantamweight Champion Dominick Cruz and former WEC Featherweight Champion Urijah Faber and co-headlined by a Fight of The Year candidate-on-paper in the long-awaited Middleweight collision between Wanderlei Silva and Chris Leben, the UFC 132 fight card will pick up where UFC 131 left off, focusing mostly on the Light-and-Lighterweight classes and hopefully elevate the momentum gained from last night’s card to a brand new level.

For a million-dollar card featuring some million-dollar fights—all for only about $45 out of your pocket—here now are some million-dollar predictions for the entire UFC 132 main card!

UFC 132 is set to take place on July 2 from Las Vegas, Nevada’s MGM Grand Garden Arena.

The main event on the card will feature the UFC’s first bantamweight title fight, as champion Dominick Cruz defends his title against the only man to ever defeat him, former WEC champion Urijah Faber.

UFC 132 will also see Wanderlei Silva return to the Octagon for the first time since he defeated Michael Bisping in February 2010. Silva, who has been rehabbing from injuries and surgery will meet Chris Leben in his return bout.

Another important bout on the card will see Tito Ortiz facing off against Ryan Bader. The fight is a must win for Ortiz. UFC president Dana White has said that this fight is Ortiz’s “last chance” to keep his UFC career alive. Ortiz has not won since he defeated Ken Shamrock in 2006.

Rounding out the main card will be:

Carlos Condit vs. Dong Hyun Kim

Dennis Siver vs.  Matt Wiman

Tito Ortiz Power Bombed by Women’s Champion Cristiane "Cyborg" Santos

“She’s (expletive) strong.”

Those were the words uttered by former light heavyweight champion and future UFC Hall of Famer Tito Ortiz after getting slammed during a grappling session with Strikeforce women’s middleweight champion Cristiane “Cyborg” Santos.

Gina Carano may be the face of women’s MMA, but there has never been a female fighter as imposing as Cyborg.

Strikeforce is constantly forced to scour the globe for suitable opponents willing to challenge the MMA amazon.

Cyborg’s strength and athleticism allow her to train with professional fighters of the opposite sex. These aren’t light sparring sessions either. In the video below, Ortiz is training with Cyborg like he would any teammate.

People may poke fun at Cyborg’s femininity with masculine jokes, but any true fan of the sport has to respect her talent.

Despite being a world champion, Cyborg remains the most ambitious female in women’s MMA. She’s constantly working hard to improve her technique and shore up holes in her game.

Skeptics of women’s MMA tend to blame their reasoning on a lack of excitement and quality names. While there is definitely truth to the latter, it would be disingenuous to discount the excitement level of female fighting. The ladies are generally involved in some of the more entertaining scraps on a fight card.

In sports, we want to see the biggest and strongest athletes compete, and both of those qualities aren’t usually associated with women.

This is where Cyborg differs from the rest. People continuously point to her overbearing strength, but it’s her athleticism that truly stands out. There are very few women that come into this world with the ability to move and explode like Cyborg. She is constantly breaking boundaries and turning new heads to female fighting.

Who is the true face of women’s MMA?

Watch this video, and see if it doesn’t change your mind.
