Former bantamweight champion TJ Dillashaw was recruited years ago by Team Alpha Male leader and longtime veteran Urijah “The California Kid” Faber.

The two established a close bond, although one that was recently broken when Dillashaw elected to leave Team Alpha Male and head to Elevation Fight Team in Colorado.

Ironically, featherweight champion Conor McGregor, who coached opposite Faber on this past season of The Ultimate Fighter (TUF), called Dillashaw a “snake in the grass” who was going to turn on Faber, causing drama when “Killashaw” appeared on the show.

The ex-bantamweight king now blames “The California Kid” for bringing him onto the set:

“I felt like him bringing me on to The Ultimate Fighter was a trap,” Dillashaw said on Monday’s edition of The MMA Hour.

Dillashaw continued to blast Faber, saying that the former WEC champion only used the situation to garner more attention within the media:

“[It was] a way for him and Conor to bash on me for going to a different gym,” Dillashaw said. “[Faber] bashing me is a way to stay relevant, so the media had something to talk about other than his horrible fights.”

In the end, Dillashaw admits that he’s surprised by Faber’s actions, saying that cross-training is a normal thing in today’s day and age:

“This is very uncharacteristic of him,” Dillashaw said. “I’ve never seen him like this, especially to ruin a friendship over me liking a coach. Guys cross train all the time. That’s what Alpha Male’s known for, guys have open doors to come in all the time. They don’t call any of those guys traitors.”

Faber is set to battle reigning 135-pound champion Dominick Cruz in June, but will we ever see a potentially massive grudge match between he and Dillashaw?

Apparently TJ Dillashaw isn’t happy at all about his former teammate Urijah Faber getting the next shot at UFC Bantamweight Champion Dominick Cruz.

Dillashaw recently spoke about UFC’s decision to go with Faber as Cruz’s first title defense, as opposed to giving him an immediate rematch. Below are some highlights of what Dillashaw said about the subject.

On finding out about the Cruz-Faber III bout and his reaction:

“I flew to Las Vegas and met with [UFC CEO] Lorenzo Fertitta to plead my case. They entertained the idea of an immediate rematch. They said they’d let me know in two weeks — then I found out on social media Faber got the fight.

“I’m pretty pissed. Faber isn’t deserving. The only way this guy has stayed relevant during the last year is talking s— about me. It’s unfortunate everything has become more about entertainment than sport. I just had a very competitive fight with Cruz. I don’t think Faber has a chance. I hope he does win, but it’s all about giving him his last title shot now. I think the UFC feels they can’t give him another fight before then and expect him to win.”

On the fact that he’ll be ready in case Cruz of Faber pulls out:

“I’m going to be ready and in shape if one of those guys gets hurt. One of them is old and one of them is constantly hurt, so, you know, I’ve got a good chance.”

Headlined by the rematch between Luke Rockhold and Chris Weidman for the UFC Middleweight title and featuring the Cruz-Faber III bout for the UFC Bantamweight Title, UFC 199 is scheduled for June 6, 2016 in Los Angeles, California.

It may not have been the most hyped mixed martial arts (MMA) event of 2016, but last night’s (Sunday, February 21, 2016) UFC Fight Night 83 from the CONSOL Energy Center in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, delivered a heavy-hitting mix of great fights and finishes that earned it a deserving recognition as a very solid under-the-radar event.

There was a great women’s bout between Lauren Murphy and Kelly Faszholz that earned ‘Fight of the Night’ on the Fight Pass prelims, while the fight right after it between Ashlee Evans-Smith and Marion Reneau resulted in yet another MMA scoring controversy that only furthered the backlash towards the scoring system in place and the judges present in Pittsburgh that made some head-scratching errors.

There was also the continued rises of a few strong up-and-coming stars, and another return of sorts as recent lightweight title challenger Donald Cerrone returned to winning ways with an impressive first round submission of late replacement Alex Oliveira. All in all, it was a strong card that continued the UFC’s strong recent efforts and will continue promotional momentum into the absolutely blockbuster events scheduled for two weeks to come.

Let’s take a look back at the five biggest takeaways from UFC Fight Night 83.

Comedian, actor, podcaster and TV host Joe Rogan landed his color commentary role at the UFC despite never having competed in a mixed martial arts bout, but make no mistake, he’s a highly skilled martial artist – and we’ve got the video footage to prove it!

Rogan admits to having been obsessed with martial arts in his youth, becoming a taekwondo black belt by the age of 15 and going on to win four championships in Massachusetts along with a US Open tournament.

He stopped competing in his early 20’s after also dabbling in judo and kickboxing, but he’s never stopped training, and in addition to refining his striking skills he’s since become a black belt in Brazilian Jiu-jitsu under Jean Jacques Machado and a black belt in 10th Planet Jiu-jitsu (no-gi) under Eddie Bravo.

Over the years Rogan has repeatedly turned down pleas from fans to fight in the Octagon, confessing that he has real concerns about the potential for head trauma, and also once joking with fans that, “I would break that drug test like a hammer hitting a carnival bell in a bugs bunny cartoon.”

Nevertheless, based on the video footage you’re about to see, it’s a crying shame that we’ll never get a chance to see him in action as there’s no doubting he has some serious skills.

TJ Dillashaw: Dominick Cruz Wants To Run, Not Fight

Former UFC bantamweight champion TJ Dillashaw surrendered his title last month in the main event of UFC Fight Night 81, dropping a slightly controversial decision loss to Dominick “The Dominator” Cruz.

Leading up to the bout, it seemed as if there was some tension between the two, and Dillashaw, who has openly expressed his interest in an immediate rematch, hasn’t given it up.

Cruz, a fighter who possesses world class movement and footwork, has been criticized in the past for being a boring fighter, and not being one to engage so to say. Dillashaw believes this to be true, and took to his official Instagram account earlier today to blast the champion for wanting to run rather than actually fight:

“Only equipment needed for the rematch against Cruz,” Dillashaw said on Friday. “Next training camp is going to be strictly running marathons and pillow fighting. Cause that little b–ch doesn’t want to fight he wants to run and throw his pillows around that he calls fists!”

Continuing on, the former kingpin made it clear that he wasn’t going to sit around and be nice and quiet anymore, but rather voice his opinions. At this point, Dillashaw essentially demanded a rematch, making it known that he wants his belt back:

“Give me the rematch to get back what is rightfully mine and should have never lost,” Dillashaw wrote. “No more being respectful or nice cause that doesn’t seem to get you s–t anymore.”

While an immediate rematch between Cruz and Dillashaw could be a possibility within the contender scarce 135-pound division, all signs have pointed to the UFC booking a trilogy bout between “The Dominator” and No. 3-ranked Urijah “The California Kid” Faber.

Who would you rather see Cruz defend his title against next?

Reigning UFC bantamweight champion Dominick “The Dominator” Cruz recently bashed long-time rival Urijah Faber, saying that “The California Kid” has been gifted title shots throughout his career.

Faber, however, begs to differ.

“The California Kid” is a former WEC champion, but has indeed gone 0-3 in UFC title shots. One of those shots at UFC gold came against Cruz at 2011’s UFC 132 in which “The Dominator” edged out a decision victory. Prior to that, Faber had submitted Cruz back at WEC 26 in 2007.

With Cruz now seemingly healthy after years of injuries, and Faber still near the top of the division, the time is now for the trilogy bout.

“The California Kid” seems overly excited to get his hands on Cruz one more time, recently taking to his official Instagram account to fire back at his rival, expressing his interest in breaking the “glass champ”:

I keep hearing articles talking about me. Apparently@domcruz619 thinks something has been gifted in my life. I’ve had double the amount of fights that dude has in around the same amount of years, i have 5 more finishes than he has total fights, I’ve been a champion or a top contender for the last 13 years. Last time we fought i put MR. Hard to Hit on his ass multiple times. And the reason he is alive is because there are rules in mma and i was forced to let him live. I have jumped up weight classes and fought future hall of famers at multiple divisions. I take on all comers and don’t back out if my body isn’t feeling perfect. I can’t wait to whoop this dope! @danawhiteufc@lorenzofertitta please gimme a date. Lets get a staff of Drs on hand at Cruz’s training and ask his teammates to take it easy. I wanna be the one to break the glass champ!! #glasschamp”

Referring to Cruz as the glass champ is a dig at the champion’s notorious injury history, and although it’s nothing serious, Cruz is rehabbing a slight foot injury suffered in his UFC Fight Night 81 bout with TJ Dillashaw.

The champion shouldn’t be out too long, and the UFC is likely to book Cruz vs. Faber III in the near future.

Who are you picking to settle the score?
