Former UFC welterweight champion Robbie Lawler’s return to the Octagon is set.

UFC Canada just tweeted that fan favorite ‘Ruthless’ will take on surging fellow former champion Rafel dos Anjos in the main event of UFC on FOX 26 from Winnipeg, Manitoba on December 16:

Lawler recently returned to the cage for his first bout since losing the title to current champion Tyron Woodley at July 2016’s UFC 201, winning a closely-contested unanimous decision over Donald Cerrone at July 29’s UFC 214 from Anaheim, Calif.

He’s currently ranked No. 1 at welterweight, and will look to solidify a rematch with the currently injured “Chosen One” against No. 5 dos Anjos, who has looked extremely rejuvenated at welterweight after ditching the draining cut to 155 pounds, where he was champion, following two straight losses.

Dos Anjos recently submitted longtime contender Neil Magny with shocking ease at September 9’s UFC 215, his second win at welterweight after he beat former Strikeforce 170-pound champ Tarec Saffiedine in his weight class debut in Singapore this June.

With the winner most likely headed for a title fight versus “The Chosen One” when he returns, who are you picking to win this potentially explosive match?

Carlos Condit understands why Tyron Woodley receives criticism.

Woodley is the reigning Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) welterweight title holder, but he’s perhaps the most criticized champion in the promotion. “The Chosen One” has beaten the likes of Robbie Lawler, Stephen Thompson, Demian Maia, and even Condit.

With that said, his most recent title defenses haven’t been exciting. In fact, he’s been booed heavily his last two defenses. During a recent appearance on MMAFighting.com‘s “The MMA Hour,” Condit said Woodley’s critics have a point:

“I can definitely see where the critics are coming from. We’re athletes but we’re also entertainers, people by the pay-per-view to be entertained. That’s part of this. This is show business. I know that winning is super important and a game plan is super important, but at some point you have to, this is the hurt business and you gotta to try to put your opponent out.”

“The Natural Born Killer” said that despite Woodley’s abilities, the champion doesn’t fight to finish.

“You know he’s obviously a super, super talented dude. I did watch the last fight against Maia. I felt like he at a time where he could he really could have turned it on and tried to finish, he didn’t.”

Carlos Condit Believes Tyron Woodley Could Turn It On, But Doesn’t

After successfully defending his title against grappling guru Demian Maia at UFC 214 this past July, welterweight champion Tyron Woodley received quite a bit of criticism, including from UFC President Dana White, due to many feeling the fight was boring.

Former Woodley foe and former interim 170-pound champion Carlos Condit, who will make his return against Neil Magny at UFC 219 on Dec. 30, 2017, in Las Vegas, Nevada, recently said that he can see where Woodley’s critics are coming from:

“I can definitely see where the critics are coming from,” Condit said on Monday’s edition of The MMA Hour. “We’re athletes but we’re also entertainers, people buy the pay-per-view to be entertained. That’s part of this. This is show business. I know that winning is super important and a gameplan is super important, but at some point you have to, this is the hurt business and you gotta to try to put your opponent out.”

Condit, who’s known for being an exciting fighter and a finisher, feels as if Woodley could’ve ‘turned it on’ against Maia and went for the finish:

“You know he’s obviously a super, super talented dude,” Condit said. “I did watch the last fight against Maia. I felt like he at a time where he could he really could have turned it on and tried to finish, he didn’t.”

Condit, who could very well still be one of the best welterweights in the world, hasn’t competed since being submitted by Maia in August 2016. He’s lost two of his last three as well, with one of those losses coming via injury to Woodley.

While a rematch between him and Woodley could certainly take place in the future, “The Natural Born Killer” seems to be taking his return to the Octagon slowly:

“I don’t I don’t really think about it all that much. I’m really looking at small, incremental things right now. That’s big picture, but for now it’s really just getting back in fight shape, getting firing on all cylinders, getting my weapons sharp again, that’s my thought process and my priority,” Condit said.

Do you expect Condit to make another return?

RDA Says He’ll Take Tyron Woodley ‘Out Of His Comfort Zone’

Earlier this year, former UFC lightweight champion Rafael dos Anjos decided to move up in weight and test the waters at 170 pounds. Earlier this year, former UFC lightweight champion Rafael dos Anjos decided to move up in weight and test the waters at 170 pounds. Since then, he’s won two straight bouts, scoring a decision win over Tarec Saffiedine last June, and a submission victory over Neil Magny last month.

Now back to his winning ways, dos Anjos has established himself as a legitimate threat in the welterweight division, which is why he isn’t interested in facing off with Kamaru Usman, who recently called him out:

“I just beat the No. 6 in the division and I’m currently at No. 5, it doesn’t make any sense to fight the No. 10,” dos Anjos told MMA Fighting. “I understand that everyone is trying to promote themselves to get interesting fights, but I’m worried about fighters who are ahead of me.”

“Even his manager said I deserve to fight for the title,” dos Anjos added, “so I don’t know why he’s worried about me. I’m a former champion, I’m in the UFC for almost 10 years, and this kid just got here the other day. Relax, man, mind your own business and don’t cut the line.”

As far as a title shot goes, RDA says that he was chosen as a backup plan had something went wrong with Tyron Woodley’s UFC 214 title defense against Demian Maia. Now, he feels as if the title shot should be his:

“(UFC matchmaker Sean) Shelby called me after my fight in Singapore offering the fight with Woodley. I accepted it right away, and I believe this win over Magny put me in a much better position,” dos Anjos said. “I’m ready to fight the champion and I don’t see any other guy in the division that can beat him.

“Everyone else ahead of me already lost to the champion or to the last contender, Demian Maia, so since I’m a former champion, and I’m undefeated at welterweight, I believe the next chance should be mine.”

Over the last year, Woodley has defended his title three times, twice against striking specialist Stephen Thompson, and once again Maia. Dos Anjos, however, believes he could offer Woodley a different type of challenge:

“He was only worried about the striking against ‘Wonderboy’ and only worried about not going to the ground with Demian, but he will be confused with me,” the Brazilian said. “I’ll take him out of his comfort zone, and he will have to work twice as hard.”

Would you like to see Woodley and dos Anjos square off next?
