Francis Ngannou proved he could hold his own in the world of boxing, but that didn’t stop the former UFC heavyweight champion from busting out an MMA-style strike in the closing moments of his scrap with Tyson Fury on Saturday night.

After nearly two years on the shelf, ‘The Predator’ returned to combat sports, stepping inside the squared circle at Kingdom Arena in Saudi Arabia for a highly anticipated crossover clash with reigning WBC heavyweight boxing champion Tyson Fury.

Throughout the 30-minute affair, Francis Ngannou managed to stifle Fury’s offense, drawing blood, and even dropped ‘The Gypsy King’ in round three with a counter left hand that caught his opponent off guard. Despite all of that, Ngannou came up short on the scorecards, suffering a split decision loss in his first foray into the sweet science.

In the final round, Ngannou was listed as the favorite to come out on top via the live odds and appeared to be full of confidence. So much so that he launched a Superman punch with 35 seconds left on the clock.

Conor McGregor Marvels at Francis Ngannou’s Third-Round knockdown of Tyson Fury

Speaking with TNT Sports following the bout, Irish megastar Conor McGregor marveled at Francis Ngannou’s performance, particularly his third-round knockdown of the undefeated titleholder.

“Lovely shot, it caught him in the back of the head,” McGregor said of Ngannou’s third-round knockdown. “More off balance as well, but fair play to Tyson. He is a tough man as well. Stong chin. And Jesus, Ngannou’s a poweful boy as well. Tyson couldn’t hold him. Tyson could not hold him. He kept; he was just missing with that back hand. Great fight. Great to watch. Heavyweight boxing is exciting!”

With their contest now in the books, Tyson Fury will turn his attention toward a long-awaited title unification clash with Ukrainian boxing star Oleksandr Usky. The bout is tentatively scheduled to go down on December 23 in Saudi Arabia, a mere eight weeks away.

Nate Diaz was none-too-thrilled with Francis Ngannou’s controversial split decision loss to Tyson Fury on Saturday night.

After months of build-up, the former UFC heavyweight champion made his pro boxing debut in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, squaring off with one of the most celebrated strikers in the sport today, Tyson Fury. ‘The Predator’ stepped into the squared circle as a +750 underdog, but those odds quickly flipped when Ngannou managed to knock Fury to the canvas in the third round with a counter-left.

The tide seemingly turned from that point with Fury struggling to get anything going and looking flat-out exhausted in the later rounds. Despite that, ‘The Gypsy King’ still managed to walk away with his undefeated record intact, besting Francis Ngannou via split decision.

Many within the MMA community were quick to cry foul, including former UFC superstar Nate Diaz who shared his unfiltered thoughts on the somewhat sketchy decision.

“Tyson Fury lost and the boxing commentary biased af dumbasses they need to learn how to box,” Diaz wrote on X.

Fans online were quick to point out that Diaz himself was knocked down and defeated by social media star Jake Paul during their ten-round scrap in August. “You got dropped by a YouTuber, who you telling to go learn how to box,” one user quipped.

With his undefeated record still alive, Tyson Fury will now turn his attention to a long-awaited heavyweight title unification clash with Oleksandr Usyk. Fury has already agreed to the bout which could take place as early as December 23, 2023, a mere eight weeks removed from his 30-minute tussle with Francis Ngannou.

Boxing Legend Roy Jones Jr. wants to fight tommy fury: ‘That would be out of this world’

Boxing legend Roy Jones Jr. is ready to throw hands with Tommy Fury.

It will be a star-studded event in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia as some of the biggest names in combat sports head to the Middle East to take in Saturday’s highly anticipated clash between former UFC champion Francis Ngannou and reigning WBC heavyweight titleholder Tyson Fury.

Two of those stars, multi-time world champion Roy Jones Jr. and Tyson Fury’s undefeated younger brother, Tommy Fury, hooked up and verbally agreed to strap on the eight-ounce gloves against one another if Fury’s father, John Fury, steps inside the ring with another icon of the sport, ‘Iron’ Mike Tyson.

“I said if your father fights Mike [Tyson], me and you do the co-main event,” Jones Jr. said in a video clip shared by Happy Punch on X. “That would be out of this world, brother. If they fight, me and him on the undercard.”

Tommy Fury was 100 percent on board with the idea saying, “Let’s do it. Honestly.”

John Fury, the eccentric father of both Tommy and Tyson Fury, has taken issue with Mike Tyson’s involvement in his son’s fight against Francis Ngannou, suggesting that the former undisputed heavyweight world champion is a traitor to his sport by coaching an MMA fighter against a legitimate boxer. As a result, John Fury has called for a boxing match with Mike Tyson to settle their differences like proper warriors.

Mike Tyson last competed in November 2020, stepping into the ring for an exhibition bout with Roy Jones Jr. The bout was dubbed a draw after eight rounds and it appeared that ‘Iron’ was all, but retired following the contest. But when it comes to a big money-making opportunity, never say never.

“I don’t do that stuff no more,” Mike Tyson told TheMACLife when asked about a potential exhibition bout with John Fury. “I only fight for money. Everybody wants me to fight an exhibition. Everybody. Hey, listen… If the price is right.”

With both John and Tommy Fury on board for the potential event, perhaps Tyson Fury will book himself a fight on the card and make it a full-on family affair.
