Dunham, who was a much-hyped undefeated prospect himself at one time, is back on the upswing after compiling back-to-back victories against Shamar Bailey and Nik Lentz, which snapped a two-fight losing streak. Dunham’s biggest advantage against Barboza should be on the mat, but if he can’t get the fight there, he’ll be in for a long, painful night, full of feet flying at his face and shins slamming into his thighs. Anybody think Evan can derail the Edson Barboza hype-train?

A lightweight contender’s matchup between standout striker Edson Barboza (10-0) and Brazilian jiu-jitsu black belt Evan Dunham (13-2) is set to take place at UFC 146 in May, according to a recent tweet by UFC president Dana White:
For the UFC 146 card May 26th in Vegas we just signed Edson Barboza vs Evan Dunham!!
The card, which is set to be headlined by UFC heavyweight champion Junior dos Santos and Alistair Overeem, has only had three official bouts announced, and Dunham vs. Barboza is likely to go down as one of the featured bouts on the pay-per-view.
Barboza enters the fight with a perfect 10-0 record, including victories over Terry Etim, Ross Pearson, Anthony Njokuani and Mike Lullo. His wheel-kick knockout of Etim from UFC 142 is the top candidate for 2012’s knockout of the year.
Dunham rebounded from two back-to-back losses to defeat Shamar Bailey and Nik Lentz. His split-decision loss to Sherk was one of the more controversial decisions of 2010. Other UFC wins include those over Tyson Griffin, Marcus Aurelio and Efrain Escudero.
With other lightweight matchups like Nate Diaz vs. Jim Miller and Joe Lauzon vs. Anthony Pettis set to go down at future events, the winner of this fight could be very close to finding themselves in a top contender’s bout.
Following his embarrassing loss to Michael Bisping at The Ultimate Fighter 14 Finale, no one was sure what would become of Jason “Mayhem” Miller. There was speculation that his performance during his first appearance with the promotion since 2005, when he dropped a lopsided decision to Georges St. Pierre, was poor enough to get him fired. Immediately after the event, Dana White was hesitant to comment on Mayhem’s future with the UFC.
However, it appears that Dana has decided to give Mayhem Miller one more chance. Last night, the UFC confirmed that the charismatic middleweight has been booked to fight against C.B. Dollaway at UFC 146, which takes place on May 26 in Las Vegas.
We didn’t have C.B. Dollaway in mind when we wrote that Mayhem deserved a fight against a middleweight gatekeeper, but “The Doberman” certainly fits the description. After losing to Amir Sadollah during The Ultimate Fighter 7 Finale, Dollaway has gone 5-3 in the UFC. He is currently riding a two fight losing streak after being knocked out by Mark Munoz and Jared Hamman.

Unless this fight wins Fight of the Night (don’t count on it), this one is a pretty clear “loser leaves town” matchup. Dollaway will have reached his third straight loss with the UFC, while a loss for Mayhem will all but officially make him a bust signing for the UFC. And frankly, the next fight for the winner of this fight will more than likely also be win or go home- especially if the winner is Mayhem.
Currently, this fight is the only fight that has been officially announced by the UFC for UFC 146. It is expected that this event will be headlined by a Heavyweight Championship bout between current champion Junior dos Santos and Alistair Overeem. We’ll keep you posted as more information is made available.

One of the most highly anticipated heavyweight clashes of all time will come to a head this summer as UFC champion Junior dos Santos defends his title against the touted Alistair Overeem.
Recently, the Dutchman stormed through former UFC titleholder Brock Lesnar, sending the behemoth into retirement with a first round TKO.
With the victory, Overeem became the immediate No. 1 contender to Dos Santos’ belt, as the Brazilian looks to defend his mantle against arguably his toughest test to date.

Junior dos Santos, UFC heavyweight champion, should be healed and ready to return to the Octagon on May 26 for the first defense of his UFC belt.
Through his Twitter account, UFC co-owner Lorenzo Fertitta confirmed that the highly-anticipated heavyweight title fight between dos Santos and former Strikeforce champion Alistair Overeem will take place at UFC 146.
Coming off of a fight in which he dethroned former heavyweight champion Cain Velasquez despite competing with a torn meniscus in his left knee, dos Santos was forced to undergo surgery in December. Should dos Santos’ bout with Overeem remain set for UFC 146, the Brazilian titleholder will have been out of action for more than six months.
Overeem, meanwhile, last competed against former heavyweight king Brock Lesnar in the UFC’s annual New Year’s event. Though many believed the former NCAA champion wrestler could negate Overeem’s world-class striking by taking the fight to the ground, Lesnar was unable to work inside the kicks of Overeem and announced his retirement after suffering a knockout loss due to a body kick.
With the victory over Lesnar in his UFC debut, Overeem guaranteed himself a shot at the heavyweight title. Though there was a brief moment of concern that he would lose his championship fight due to an alleged misdemeanor battery in Las Vegas, UFC president Dana Whiterecently told the media at the UFC 143 pre-fight press conference that Overeem shouldn’t be in much trouble.
With dos Santos nearing full recovery and Overeem scheduled to appear in court in the coming weeks to settle his legal situation, the time is nearing for two of the best heavyweights in the world to throw down in what should be an exciting matchup between skilled strikers.
The May 26 event, UFC 146, is expected to be held at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas—the same venue at which Overeem earned his title shot by defeating Lesnar.
Aside from the heavyweight title fight between dos Santos and Overeem, which would appear to serve as the main event for the card, no other bouts have been announced.

The UFC has announced that it will make its return to Atlanta on April 21, 2012. The announcement was made on Tuesday night’s edition of UFC Tonight on Fuel TV.
The last time the promotion visited Atlanta was Sept. 6, 2008. During that event, Rashad Evans knocked out Chuck Liddell at the 1:51 mark of Round 2. The knockout was nominated at the World MMA Awards for “Knockout of the Year,” a category that was eventually won by Dan Henderson’s knockout of Michael Bisping at UFC 100.
In the co-main event of that card, Rich Franklin stopped Matt Hamill via third-round TKO.
The announcement on UFC Tonight did not indicate the location of the fight card or who would be competing on the card.
Earlier today, the UFC announced on its website that it would make its debut in Sweden on April 14, 2012. The fight card will take place in Stockholm and will be headlined by a bout between Alexander Gustafsson and Antonio Rogerio Nogueira.
UFC president Dana White commented on the Stockholm card: “Sweden has been on our radar for a long time, and on April 14, we’re excited to finally bring the UFC to Stockholm. We’re putting together a great card for the Swedish fans. I can’t wait to get there in April!”
