UFC featherweight champion Conor McGregor is once again lined up with Nate Diaz, again at welterweight, in the UFC 200 main event. The repercussions of this move by ‘The Notorious’ and the UFC mean that the 145-pound title has been placed on the back burner. With McGregor locked in a rivalry that has the wheels to go in to a trilogy if he wins the rematch, the top of the featherweight class is a talent stacked dragon currently missing it’s head.

For that reason we learned that former champion Jose Aldo and ex-lightweight boss Frankie Edgar would tie them up, also at UFC 200, for the interim belt at featherweight. Dana White then dropped the bombshell news that their rematch would not even make the co-main event slot. {watch this space for GSP news}. With Edgar having been at the top of the line of contenders for some time now and being thrown under the bus by the promotion on numerous occasions, it’s no surprise ‘The Answer’ is coming across as quite bitter in recent interviews.

Frankie Edgar

Edgar’s coach Mark Henry is the first interview we’ll look at today, as he recently told Balls.ie, yes that’s actually a site, that McGregor is little more than a spoilt 5 year old:

“It’s like a parent, you know, some are more lenient than others. It’s like a 5-year-old kid who wants to keep going on the ride at the park. Some parents let them keep going for another ride, and some say ‘Listen son, it’s time to go home’.

But you know Conor, he keeps whining and crying and he gets his way, no matter how bizarre things may seem. It’s ridiculous. I’m not upset with the UFC, it’s a great organisation, they’ve always treated Frankie well, but I wish they’d do it a little different.”

A. McGregor 1

“I’m not one to really look on Instagram or whatnot, but I looked on the comments on the picture Dana White posted of Conor, and you can see there about 80-90% of the people are upset. I think it’s the most I’ve ever seen people upset about one of the decisions the UFC made, because it’s just so blatant.

My question is, my biggest question is, why are you so afraid? Why do you have to clutch onto this 45 pound belt to grim death? Like if you’re as great as you say you are, go fight Nate, go fight Dos Anjos, when you want to come back down I’m sure the UFC will let you snap your fingers and fight for the title, so why do you need to hold this title so bad?”

It’s certainly been frustrating for many mixed martial arts fans to learn that McGregor will remain at 170 pounds for now, but no one is more upset than Frankie Edgar. After defeating the top competition in dominant fashion in the featherweight division, he’s just about had enough of the Conor McGregor show…

Jose Aldo Accuses Conor McGregor Of Being “Full Of Juice” Heading Into UFC 196

jose-aldo-miic

Jose Aldo made some pretty big statements when taking part in a media scrum in Brazil recently.

Aldo spoke about his decision to turn down the short notice offer he received to fight Conor McGregor at UFC 196 when Rafael dos Anjos pulled out. According to Aldo, he turned the fight down because it was offered on short notice and was going to be a non-title fight at 155 pounds.

Additionally, Aldo made a pretty big claim regarding Conor McGregor and performance-enhancing drugs.

“The fight was not at featherweight. Why would I rematch him in a different weight class with no belt? Now, to make this fight at 155, where he was full of juice in his body, where he hides and nobody tests him, only when he gets to Las Vegas, a week before the fight, and then it’s way easier for you to clean the body and fight. They offered the fight knowing that I wasn’t trained at all. I can’t say anything. I can train, beat Frankie Edgar and then know that I’ve earned my fight for the title again.”

Also continued, explaining how frustrating it was not to be able to get a hold of Dana White or the UFC when first looking to secure a rematch with McGregor after their fight at UFC 194.

“We called and texted him every day (asking for the rematch) and nothing. There was no talk for a month. I waited for a call from Dana (White) for three weeks, and when he texted ‘Dede’ (Pederneiras) I was doing a charity soccer match in Manaus, and he talked about replacing Rafael. He knew I wasn’t training because I was coming back from (medical) suspension. They already had in mind who to put against Conor. That’s the path they try to follow, and it’s kind of dirty to me. There’s no negotiation. We ask, and not always we get a response. When they respond is like that, and then they say they love us. It’s a bit weird. But what can I do?”

The former UFC 145 pound champion also spoke about his belief that UFC is showing favortism to Conor McGregor because he makes the company a lot of money.

“If I think so? I’m sure. Not only in this situation, but it’s like that since he showed up. Like I said, it involves money, but you have to respect the other side because you can’t make money alone. They treat him differently, doing this rematch that means sh*t. Nate said he wanted rematches with fighters he lost before, and never got one. This rematch means nothing. I think it’s weird, but what can I do? They make the call.”

As far as the future is concerned, Aldo is convinced that McGregor will have no choice but to return to featherweight, as he won’t be able to achieve real success in either the welterweight or lightweight divisions.

“He will come back. I don’t know if right after this fight, but he will. I don’t see how he gets too far even at lightweight. He won’t do well at lightweight either.”

Finally, Aldo gave his prediction on who he feels will win the McGregor-Diaz II fight at UFC 200. It should come as no surprise that the Brazilian doesn’t like McGregor’s chances in July.

“Nate wins again. He’s used to this weight. It’s really hard to move up in weight and continue winning. It’s going to be different now that Nate will be more prepared. He can do his thing, anything he wants, from start to end. He can slap him, anything, because he will win. It can be faster this time. Nate will prepare, will have enough time, and it can be faster this time.”

At the true height of his game following his biggest win, Nate Diaz will be headed for another one of the absolutely massive paydays he’s always looked for in the UFC when he takes on Conor McGregor in the recently confirmed main event of UFC 200.

A large number of serious MMA fans have taken umbrage with the UFC’s choice to reschedule Diaz against McGregor, whom he submitted with a masterful choke at March’s UFC 196; nonetheless, it would still provide Diaz with another pay-per-view main event against MMA’s biggest star.

McGregorDiazPre-FightFace

Knowledge would dictate that he should be at least somewhat happy, but from the sound of Diaz’ words in a recent interview with FOX Sports, quite the opposite is true. The Stockton native said he’s just sick of how McGregor has been treated in the days after the stoppage loss:

“Completely irritated. I’ve lost decisions that I didn’t really lose and if I asked to get a rematch it was out of the question like are you kidding me, don’t even ask. But this guy is getting praised for wanting a rematch. It’s like get the (expletive) out of here, (expletive), this is the fight game.

“Whoever has lost a fight in the UFC and hasn’t wanted to fight that guy the next day shouldn’t be in the sport. All of a sudden he’s getting praised for losing and wanting a rematch? Get the (expletive) out of here, I’m sick of hearing it.”

Aldo’s Manager: Conor McGregor Will Lose To Nate Diaz Again

This week, news arrived that the rumored Nate Diaz vs. Conor McGregor welterweight rematch was confirmed for the main event of July 9’s blockbuster UFC 200 card from the all-new T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.

A bit more surprising, however, was that longtime former featherweight champion Jose Aldo will face Frankie Edgar for the interim title to decide the next challenger for McGregor’s 145-pound belt, which will inauspiciously sit on the pine while the Irishman sorts out his differences with Diaz at 170 pounds.

After Aldo and Edgar campaigned fervently for the match-up with McGregor after he lost to Diaz by submission at March’s UFC 196, the belt remained stagnant when a rematch that many feel is beyond unnecessary was made a reality. Aldo and his team aren’t exactly happy about it, but his longtime manager and coach Andre Pederneiras recently spoke to MMA Fighting about his star pupil’s mindset heading into the interim rematch with ‘The Answer’:

“We were expecting the fight with Conor, but we can’t live to mourn. Aldo has a date and a fight booked, and it’s for the interim belt, so let’s work to win this title and fight Conor again.”

ufc featherweight champion

Aldo, who lost his title in a shocking 13 seconds to McGregor last year, famously outlasted Edgar by decision in a heated match at 2013’s UFC 156, a bout where ‘Junior’ controlled much of the early action with his trademark low kicks before Edgar bounced back with a late push. Regardless of the result there, Pederneiras believes both fighters have changed and it will be quite the different affair:

“Both fighters have evolved a lot (since UFC 156),” he added. “It’s going to be interesting to see how they both prepare for each other in this new fight.”

Pederneiras did reaffirm his belief that Aldo should be fighting for the true featherweight title right now, but the Nova Uniao head man also seemed to be at peace with the interim championship up for grabs:

“Of course! Our goal is the title. Like we made clear previously, we would only fight for the title, and that’s what’s happening now.

Moving on to one of the many topics of the hour in MMA this week, Pederneiras touched on the pending Diaz vs. McGregor match.

When Conor McGregor vs. Nate Diaz II was announced as the main event for UFC 200 in an immediate welterweight rematch of their UFC 196 fight, the MMA community was split in terms of their reaction to the news. Current UFC Lightweight Champion Rafael dos Anjos, however, has made his opinion very clear.

Dos Anjos, who was originally scheduled to defend his 155-pound title against 145-pound champion Conor McGregor at UFC 196, took to social media shortly after the announcement was made regarding the McGregor-Diaz II fight headlining the landmark UFC 200 event.

According to Dos Anjos, “The Notorious” one is a “coward” for taking the Diaz rematch instead of defending his title against any of the challengers available in the 145-pound division.

As noted, UFC also announced Frankie Edgar vs. Jose Aldo in an interim featherweight title fight as one of the co-main events for their big UFC 200 show on July 9th.

“[I] feel bad for Aldo and Edgar,” wrote Dos Anjos. “After UFC 200, Conor [will] find another fight in a different division so he can keep his belt for [a little] longer.” Dos Anjos closed with a hashtag directed at McGregor that simply read, “#coward.”

UFC 200: Diaz vs. McGregor II takes place on Saturday, July 9, 2016 from the brand new T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada. Make sure to join MMANews.com on 7/9 for the best UFC 200 live results coverage on the web!

The MMA world was given a refreshing bit of news when it was revealed earlier this week that Invicta FC featherweight champion Cristiane ‘Cyborg’ Justino would finally be making her UFC debut against Leslie Smith at May 14’s UFC 198 from her homeland of Curitiba, Brazil.

While Smith is most certainly a gritty and talented fighter and also deserves respect for taking the 140-pound catchweight fight, most hoped ‘Cyborg’ would make her debut against the top fighters of the UFC women’s bantamweight division. Obviously Justino has a long-standing feud Ronda Rousey, and bouts with champion Miesha Tate or top contenders Holly Holm and Cat Zingano are very enticing prospects.

However, UFC President Dana White spoke up to declare that no one other than Smith wanted the fight, and apparently Holm, who recently lost the title to Miesha Tate at March 5’s UFC 196, is one that did not. In a recent appearance at a news conference transcribed by The Albuquerque Journal, Holm touched on her desires for her next fight, which not surprisingly include rematches with Tate or Rousey:

“This one’s definitely a little more out of my hands. (In boxing), I knew that Lenny would give me the opportunity as long as I wanted it. This is a whole different situation.

“I really want that rematch, but I’m not the one with the title now. I’m not the one with the belt. So I have to be patient and wait for that opportunity to come.”

‘The Preacher’s Daughter’ seems to know the bargaining chips are a bit out of her hands after Tate submitted her in the fifth round of their title bout, and she believes she can’t be too picky as a result:

“Right now, what’s on my heart is the rematch,” she said. “(But) I don’t necessarily want to be too picky, either. I’m the one coming off a loss. I can’t expect to have everything handed to me, so we’ll see what happens.”

Holm’s longtime manager Lenny Fresquez also spoke up on the subject, adding that the UFC will hopefully give them a chance at Tate or Rousey when her next fight is booked:

“Miesha was in Australia on vacation, so they were supposed to get with her this week,” Fresquez said. “Hopefully, in the next couple of weeks we’ll know. But whether it’s Miesha or Ronda, those are the fights we’re interested in.”

As for the Cyborg fight, Fresquez, whom White infamously said was ‘not that smart’ in a tirade post-UFC 196, said that Holm’s camp is simply not interested in fighting ‘Cyborg’ right now:

“(Fighting Rousey or Tate) is pretty much what Holly wants to do,” Fresquez said. “If they have something else, it’s my job to present it to her. I’ve made her wishes known to them.

“We were not interested in that right now,” Fresquez said. “(Holm) just wants to fight Miesha.”
