With His “Payday” Now Dead and Gone, Rafael Dos Anjos Calls For Robbie Lawler Fight at UFC 200

(HE PULLED OUT WITH THAT LITTLE BRUI-*barfs*)

Considering that Rafael Dos Anjos basically destroyed the sport of MMA by pulling out of UFC 196 at the last minute (or so some fans and lesser MMA “analysts” would have you believe), you’d think that lightweight champion would be keeping a low profile and awaiting whatever opponent the UFC was generous enough to grant him next. I mean, the guy set into motion a series of events that would result in Conor McGregor losing a fight, which is a travesty on par with Josh Barnett killing Affliction (again, I’m just quoting some of my esteemed Twitter colleagues here).

Suffice it to say, Dos Anjos (which is Portuguese for “Two Vaginas,” I’m told) is in no position to be calling anyone out — not even McGregor, who I’ve also been recently informed was never all that great a fighter to begin with — but wouldn’t you know it, he’s gone and done it anyway, and against another champion, no less!

Speaking with Ariel Helwani on yesterday’s MMA Hour, Dos Anjos admitted that, although he’s lost his “payday” fight with McGregor as a result of his recent injury, he would be willing to make it up to the UFC, sort of, by facing welterweight champion Robbie Lawler at UFC 200.

“I have a lot of energy, I want to do stuff, but I can’t yet. But it’s fine. I’m going to be back in four or five weeks. I’m up for UFC 200,” said Dos Anjos.

“I don’t know the UFC’s plans, but I’m here, man. I’m here to fight anybody. I’ll fight welterweight too, if they need. I respect Robbie Lawler, but if UFC needs somebody to fight for the welterweight (title), I would fight.”

Oh right, you were afraid to fight the lion, but now you want to fight the great white shark (or perhaps “modern day Cthulhu” is a more accurate comparison?) that is Robbie Lawler? Well WE. AIN’T. BUYING. IT.

FACT: Rafael Dos Anjos ran scared from the biggest fight of his life with an injury that some ibuprofen and an Icy Hot pad would have healed 100% in less than 48 hrs. Our evidence? YOU CAN’T RUN ON A BROKEN FOOT, YOU GUYS.

FACT: Robbie Lawler eats a bowl of nails for breakfast every day (without any milk) and will still come at you, bro, even after you have kicked a piece of his face off.

In conclusion, the UFC would be foolish bordering on insane to book this fight, which would almost certainly result in Dos Anjos pulling out due to a bad case of Restless Leg Syndrome and being replaced by Nate Diaz yet again.

Actually, short notice Diaz vs. Cthulhu Lawler sounds like a real barnburner of a fight, so go ahead and book this, Dana!!

It’s still highly unclear whether or not former long-time UFC welterweight champion Georges St-Pierre will be returning to competitive fighting after vacating his title in 2013.

With the massive UFC 200 event approaching this July, however, one would have to assume that the UFC is attempting to lure one of their biggest stars back to the Octagon.

Ironically, St-Pierre’s long-time head coach Firas Zahabi took to twitter recently, suggesting that the Canadian superstar could make a return this summer.

After reports surfaced implying that fan favorite bad boy Nate Diaz had been interested in a bout with “Rush”, Zahabi threw out the idea of a potential showdown between the two at UFC 200:

Diaz’s stock has recently risen to new heights after the Stockton native scored the biggest win of his career on short notice last weekend (March 5, 2016), submitting Irish superstar the “Notorious” Conor McGregor in the second round.

St-Pierre has remained out of action since a highly controversial decision victory over Johny Hendricks back at UFC 167, but at age 34, a return is still a very real possibility.

The back story to this potential clash is there as well, as “Rush” has previously engaged in a bitter rival with Nate’s brother, Nick Diaz, which culminated in a one-sided St-Pierre win when the two met at UFC 158.

Would you like to see St-Pierre return, and attempt to complete the sweep over the Diaz brothers?

Gegard Mousasi Calls Out Anderson Silva For Potential Showdown

No. 9-ranked former Strikeforce champion Gegard “The Dreamcatcher” Mousasi has made it quite clear who he’d like to fight next: former long-time divisional kingpin Anderson “The Spider” Silva. No. 9-ranked former Strikeforce champion Gegard “The Dreamcatcher” Mousasi has made it quite clear who he’d like to fight next: former long-time divisional kingpin Anderson “The Spider” Silva.

Mousasi’s manager, speaking with MMAFighting.com on the topic yesterday (March 9, 2016), noted that “The Dreamcatcher” would be open to squaring off with Silva in the next few months, preferably at June’s UFC 199, or July’s UFC 200:

“All of the Brazilian media has been contacting us today about a potential Mousasi/Silva match-up in Brazil. It is an exciting idea as it will be a stadium show. However, the Curitiba card is right around the corner. Therefore, we need adequate time to put the camp together and prepare. We would gladly fight Anderson. However, a May date is too soon of a return. Had we known immediately after the London card then maybe. But that time has passed us, unfortunately. We will take the fight gladly. However, I think it would make more sense to have them fight either at UFC 199 in LA at the earliest, or alternatively, at UFC 200 in Vegas at the latest. Gegard wants to have the fastest turnaround possible while not compromising the organization and structure of his training camp. So the question should go back directly to Anderson on whether he accepts our challenge at either UFC 199 or UFC 200.”

Mousasi is coming off of a dominant one-sided win over Brazilian slugger Thales Leites at last month’s UFC Fight Night 84.

Silva also competed on that card, dropping a somewhat controversial decision to Michael Bisping in his return from a year-long suspension.

This fight definitely makes sense for both men, as Mousasi would have the chance to add a huge name to his resume, while the 40 year old Silva would have the chance to see if he could still compete with the top 10.

Thoughts?

Reigning UFC lightweight champion Rafael dos Anjos was scheduled to defend his title against featherweight kingpin Conor McGregor last weekend, but he ended up being forced out of the bout with a broken foot.

While dos Anjos has been criticized, mainly by McGregor, for his injury, the Brazilian notes that it’s the first time he’s ever pulled out of a fight due to an injury. He also admitted that he missed out on a huge payday, but that he sees a bright future ahead:

“I’ve been around the game for a long time, 12 years, and I never cancelled any fight due to injury,” dos Anjos said Monday on The MMA Hour. “I always show up, but unfortunately for this fight, I broke my foot, man. A lot of people are making fun of it, and I don’t like to make fun of people’s injuries. I think we are fighters, so everybody is going to get injured one day. So, unfortunately I lost my payday, but I think everything is God’s plan for my life. I believe in that.”

With McGregor losing to late replacement opponent Nate Diaz, a super fight between he and dos Anjos is likely off of the table for now. That being said, the Brazilian claimed that he never feared the Irishman, also saying that he hopes to return at UFC 200 this summer:

“It’s hard, but man, they’re all haters,” dos Anjos said. “I’m not giving anything for the haters. There’s always going to be people there talking crap, but I have my fans who believe in me. And man, who is this guy for me to be afraid of him? I’ve beaten better guys before. Man, I don’t fear nobody but God. But this guy, it’s been hard because I’m very active and I’m [peaking] right now, so I’m ready to fight right now but I have my foot injury. So I have a lot of energy, I want to do stuff, but I can’t yet. But it’s fine. I’m going to be back in four or five weeks. I’m up for UFC 200.”

As far as who he would like to fight, dos Anjos even went as far to say that he would be willing to move up and challenge welterweight boss Robbie Lawler, a move McGregor had spoken often on:

“I don’t know the UFC’s plans, but I’m here, man,” dos Anjos said. “I’m here to fight anybody. I’ll fight welterweight too, if they need.

“I respect Robbie Lawler, but if UFC needs somebody to fight for the welterweight (title), I would fight.”

If officials want to make an interesting fight for UFC 200 this July, Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone is down.

With rumors floating around about a potential return to the Octagon for former UFC welterweight champion Georges St-Pierre, Cerrone wanted to make sure his name was thrown in the hat to welcome “Rush” back.

Cerrone recently moved up to welterweight and defeated Alex Oliveira after falling last December in a bout with UFC lightweight champion Rafael dos Anjos. As typical Cowboy fashion, he isn’t sure if lightweight or welterweight will be where he puts his hat down for the time being.
