Paddy Pimblett Gives Latest Update: “Only Card That I Could Possibly Fight On…”

After fighting three times in 2022, Paddy Pimblett has only fought once per year in 2023 and in 2024 thus far. “The Baddy” hasn’t been able to stay as active as he would have wanted and now that he has a top 15 ranking next to his name in the UFC’s lightweight division, he’s waiting […]

After fighting three times in 2022, Paddy Pimblett has only fought once per year in 2023 and in 2024 thus far.

“The Baddy” hasn’t been able to stay as active as he would have wanted and now that he has a top 15 ranking next to his name in the UFC’s lightweight division, he’s waiting for the right opportunities.

Having submitted King Green at UFC 304 in July, a big fight awaits Pimblett on his return regardless of when that ends up taking place.

He recently spoke about what his timeframe is looking like right now whilst being in attendance at Cage Warriors 178 this past weekend to support his Next Generation MMA teammates.

Paddy Pimblett Says UFC 210 Or Early Next Year Are The Options For His Return

In an interview backstage at the event, Pimblett revealed that it’s looking unlikely that he will fight before the end of the year.

In both 2022 and 2023, he competed on the final PPV card of the year, earning victories over Jared Gordon and Tony Ferguson.

“The Baddy” stated that if he does fight for a second time in 2024, it will be three in a row for competing on PPV in December with UFC 310 on December 7 being the only possibility.

However, an issue with that date is the potential opponent that Pimblett has had in mind for some time now.

He has gone back-and-forth with Renato Moicano who is set to return in this weekend’s main event in France against Benoît Saint Denis.

With that fight in mind, Pimblett said that he may need to wait until 2025 before making his seventh appearance inside the Octagon.

“I have no idea at the minute. I think the only card that I could possibly fight on is December again in Vegas but nothing’s been said at the minute. I know Moicano’s fighting next week, can’t see him coming back soon enough for December so could end up being next year, early next year.”

Daniel Cormier Finally Admits to UFC 210 Weigh-In Shenanagins; “I Think I May Have Grabbed The Towel”

Former UFC two-division champion Daniel Cormier has finally admitted to an incident in 2017 that came to be known as ‘towelgate’.

At UFC 210, ‘DC’ was scheduled to face Anthony ‘Rumble’ Johnson in a rematch of their UFC 187 bout where Cormier scored a third-round submission to capture the light heavyweight championship.

When Cormier initially stepped on the scale for the scheduled bout, he weighed in over the light heavyweight limit. Cormier returned to the scale shortly after and successfully weighed in on his second attempt. During the second attempt, it appeared that Cormier grabbed the towel being held up in front of him, aiding in meeting the weight requirement.

After years of speculation, Daniel Cormier has finally admitted to grabbing the towel. During his UFC Hall of Fame induction speech as part of the promotion’s International Fight Week, ‘DC’ apologized to his opponent and finally set the record straight after years of speculation.

“I want to tell you something because I feel like right now is the time to be completely transparent. I think I may have grabbed the towel in Buffalo. Rumble, I’m sorry my guy.”

Tony Ferguson Brings Renewed Attention to Daniel Cormier Weigh-In Following Charles Oliveira Debacle

The incident received some renewed attention following Charles Oliveira’s botched weigh-in that resulted in the former lightweight champion being stripped of his title ahead of a showdown with Justin Gaethje at UFC 274.

Lightweight fan-favorite Tony Ferguson called out Cormier following UFC 274, reminding fans of the incident and stating that Cormier should have been stripped of his title, similar to how ‘Do Bronx’ was stripped of his.

“How Not to Make Weight Ladies & Gentlemen. Shoulda Stripped Em’ Like They Did @CharlesDoBronx Shout Out To All Those Doin’ It Right & Keepin’ The Sport Clean – Champ -CSO- CuttingWeight Feeling Great,” Ferguson wrote.

Daniel Cormier responded to Ferguson, telling ‘El Cucuy’ to recover following his knockout loss to ‘Iron’ Mike Chandler at UFC 274.

“Tony please stop. Go and sit back for a little, tuck your head in a hole somewhere. Regroup man, recover spend some time with your family. Like just please stop! I plead with you. It is not a good look. Like you’re making me sad,” Cormier responded.

In his response, Cormier didn’t outright deny the accusations. Now we know why.

Legendary but troubled former UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones is awaiting the resolution of his failed USADA drug test in connection with his UFC 214 knockout victory over rival Daniel Cormier.

Jones has teased a pending return on social media quite often lately, making fans believe that a pending “Bones” fight could be on the horizon much sooner than his sordid history with performance-enhancing drugs would suggest.

That’s all speculation at this point, however, as Jones’ punishment could absolutely reach as high as four years because it’s his second offense. He’s also had repeated trouble with both cocaine and drinking and driving, making any return for “Bones” tentative speculation at the very best.

It won’t stop Jones from hoping for the best, of course, and in anticipation of his umpteenth comeback, he’s seemingly making more public appearances. Such was the case at this weekend’s Gatt Supplements expo in Las Vegas this weekend. There, Jones came face-to-face with an opponent he missed out on fighting when he was champion in two-time title contender Anthony “Rumble” Johnson:

Johnson retired from mixed martial arts after his second loss to Cormier at April 2017’s UFC 210. He’s since been seen becoming more focused on bodybuilding, and the results are not only jaw-dropping but also enough to prompt many to speculate that ‘Rumble’s’ been on some “supplements” of his own.

He isn’t being tested by USADA like Jones is, even if they haven’t exactly been knocking his door down this year. Regardless, the controversial great has an uncanny knack to come back from peril that would seemingly damn most other fighters. There was even a rumor that USADA had accepted a bribe to resolve “Bones’” case.

Let’s just hope we find out what will happen to Jones before a lengthy suspension period ends.

One’s a disgraced former champion who may be facing a multiple-year suspension for steroids and the other is 3-3 in his last six fights, but that isn’t stopping longtime rivals Jon Jones and Alexander Gustafsson from continually throwing down on social media.

Jones jumped into Gustafsson’s online feud with current light heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier last night, focusing on “The Mauler’s” tough talk despite losses to both “Bones” and “DC”:

Gustafsson responded last night by teasing Jones’ issues with performance-enhancing drugs, saying that he fought tough in the championship rounds thanks to the ‘good stuff’:

That sent Jones on a reaction spree, taunting the Swedish contender by chronicling his legendary resumé of former champions on his list:

Jones made it personal by referring back to his classic bout against Gustafsson at UFC 165 almost five years ago, asking “The Mauler” if he truly thought he was on PEDs when he outlasted him by decision:

Finally, Jones resorted to the juvenile with a good ‘ol ‘American balls’ reference:

Another day, another chapter in the saga of Jones and Gus.

Their first fight was arguably the greatest fight in the history of storied 205-pound class, but several roadblocks stand in the way of the two towering superstars ever facing off in the octagon again.

Even though the hype for such a fight has obviously cooled over the past five years, it still retains a certain amount of intrigue and bad blood even after so much time.

If only Jones could make it back to the octagon soon, their rivalry could become so much more than a back-and-forth smack talk battle on Twitter – just don’t count on it anytime soon.

Jon Jones Jumps Into Daniel Cormier & Alexander Gustafsson’s Twitter Beef

Although the UFC’s light heavyweight title is currently on hold as champion Daniel Cormier meets heavyweight champion Stipe Miocic in the main event of July 7’s UFC 226, that hasn’t stopped the top fighters at 205 pounds from remaining active online and spewing smack talk at one another.

The latest round in a seemingly never-ending saga between Cormier, legendary but troubled former champion Jon Jones, and perennial top contender Alexander Gustafsson was riled up when Gustafsson revealed he had signed a lucrative new contract with the UFC.

Announcing the deal, ‘The Mauler’ threw a bit of shade at the aging Cormier, suggesting he was ready to fight while Cormier was discussing retirement:

But even though Gustafsson talked a big game and suggested Cormier was the one soon to quit, ‘DC’s’ been the far more active fighter than the towering Swede, who has fought only five times since his historic loss to Jones at 2013’s UFC 165.

Cormier has fought twice as much as ‘The Mauler’ in that timeframe, including a split decision victory over Gustafsson at UFC 192 in 2015 for one of his three title defenses of the 205-pound belt. So even though that fight and Gustafsson’s match-up with Jones went down to the wire, Gustafsson is largely known for his two closest losses, something “DC” brutally pointed out on Twitter while urging Gus to quit talking on social media and go fight :

Finally, in a reaction that may have been a bit unexpected (or may not at all), Jones chimed in tonight by saying that even though he didn’t like Cormier, Gustafsson should bring the ‘tough guy’ act to the championship rounds when fighting the best at 205:

Arguably the greatest fighter in MMA history and almost definitely the best light heavyweight to fight in the UFC (at least by the numbers), Jones was almost assuredly on the way to becoming the most dominant to set foot in the octagon before a long, concerning series of outside-the-cage incident involving all sort of drugs both recreational and performance-enhancing derailed his otherwise decorated career as he continues playing the victim.

‘Bones” latest comeback was at last July’s UFC 214, where he knocked out Cormier in the third round of their awaited rematch to take back the throne most felt was rightly his anyway. Yet he ruined the emphatic return by testing positive for anabolic steroid Turinabol and is currently facing punishment for his second PED-related offense from USADA after essentially claiming that he didn’t know the steroids got into his system in a previous hearing in front of the California State Athletic Commission (CSAC).

Jones could be suspended for quite some time; however, he’s still the only man to defeat Cormier and Gustafsson, and he could somehow return for yet another comeback sooner than we think. He could also just as easily stay on the sidelines as the most shocking, cautionary tale of wasted talent in MMA history as well.

Either way, he’s not going to let his former  – and possibly future – rivals get away with generating some heat without him being involved.
