Next up on the UFC 256 main card is a women’s strawweight clash between Mackenzie Dern and Virna Jandiroba.

Round 1: Both fighters are feinting early on. Dern lands a leg kick. Dern is aggressive soon after with a flurry of strikes. Jandiroba responds with a big right but Dern eats it. Dern continues to throw plenty of strikes but Jandiroba is game as she returns some of her own. Dern seems to have caught Jandiroba in an exchange as she goes for a takedown attempt soon after. Jandiroba is clinched up against the fence as she is doing a good job of defending the attempt. They separate soon after and return to striking. Jandiroba lands a nice body kick. Dern responds with an overhand right. Jandiroba connects with a one two. She lands a body kick soon after as the round comes to an end.

Round 2: The second round begins and it’s more of the same as they return to striking. Dern, however, seems to be the slightly superior striker and is landing more. Dern lands a leg kick but slips. Jandiroba isn’t interested in jumping into her guard as the fight returns to the feet. Dern clinches Jandiroba up against the fence soon after. Jandiroba reverses and lands a big knee to the head of Dern. Jandiroba is doing much better this round. Dern lands a nice uppercut. The fight is stopped momentarily as Jandiroba is accidentally poked to the eye. The fight resumes. Jandiroba clinches Dern up soon after. It’s unclear how but Dern’s nose seems to be cut as she gets taken down by Jandiroba. It might be a broken nose. After a few scrambles including a leg lock attempt from Jandiroba, the round comes to an end. After a replay, it was a knee to the nose that led to Dern’s nose getting cut.

Round 3: If Dern has a broken nose, she’s looking to end things early as she is more aggressive with her striking. She looks for a takedown soon after but Jandiroba lands a nice elbow. She reverses and now Dern is against the fence. They separate soon after. Dern lands a nice one two and seems to have hurt Jandiroba. She goes for the takedown attempt again but Jandiroba is doing a good job of defending yet again. Dern pulls guard but Jandiroba refuses to jump in. It’s become a slugfest with just two minutes left in the fight. Dern lands a nice body kick. The fight goes to the ground soon after and Dern ends it on top which might sway the judges on the final round.

Official result: Mackenzie Dern defeats Virna Jandiroba via unanimous decision (29-28, 29-28, 29-28).

Stamp your middleweight papers within the top-fifteen middleweight rankings for sure, Kevin ‘The Trailblazer’ Holland. We’ve seen upkick knockouts as of recent times in the UFC, but tonight’s knockout of Jacare Souza from the bottom for Holland seems something entirely unfamiliar.

It’s five straight for the Travis Lutter Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu black belt, and what a statement to make against someone of Jacare’s stature.

Starting the opening exchange with a wild, winging overhand, Holland was taken down by the former Strikeforce middleweight best, before scrambling back to guard and unleashing some massive elbows. Creating some separation on the feet, Jacare managed to push Holland back to the fence, with the latter again landing some nasty elbows.

Speaking with Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu World Champion, Jacare, Holland joked before creating some space, before landing a massive right hand from the bottom, before following up with a barrage of strikes to a severly rocked Souza.

Immediately afterward, Holland claimed he had no plans to leave Las Vegas — calling for a stunning December 19th. turnaround against fellow standout, Khamzat Chimaev.

Round 1: Holland starts off with a big right hand. He follows it up with a leg kick but Souza catches it and takes him down. Holland is kept down but responds with some big elbows. Holland gets up eventually and lands more elbows. Holland pulls guard as he goes for a failed guillotine. Souza lands some strikes but is caught with a right as they look to separate! Holland goes for the finish as he lands a number of huge strikes as the referee calls an end to the fight.

Opening up the UFC 256 main card is a heavyweight encounter between Junior dos Santos and Ciryl Gane.

Round 1: Gane starts off with some kicks. He clinches up with dos Santos and has him up against the fence but decides to return to striking. Gane lands a leg kick but dos Santos returns with a right hand. Gane lands another leg kick. Dos Santos just misses an uppercut. Gane throws a body kick which is partially blocked by dos Santos and has more success with a head kick right after. Dos Santos lands a low kick this time. Dos Santos partially blocks another head kick. The fight is momentarily stopped as Gane accidentally kicks dos Santos on the groin. The action resumes soon after. Gane lands a barrage of kicks mostly to the the leg of dos Santos. Gane is given complete freedom to kick as he mixes up where and how quick he kicks. Dos Santos partially lands a spinning back kick to Gane. He connects with a right on Gane and is swinging but Gane is in no major trouble as the round ends.

Round 2: Gane continues with the kicks to start off the second round. Gane has also shown a liking for jabbing the body. They clinch up soon after with dos Santos up against the fence just as it seemed like he landed a nice right. Dos Santos misses with a swing and Gane lands a low kick which seems to have hurt “Cigano.” Gane lands a huge jab that disorients Dos Santos before an elbow drops him en route to the finish!

Rafael Fiziev has firmly landed in the UFC’s lightweight ranks. Scoring a unanimous decision win over Marc Diakiese in his last outing, the Kyrgyzstan native made an even bigger statement this time around — via a stunning first-round knockout of Renato Moicano.

The Tiger Muay Thai mainstay and coach lit the Brazilian up on cue during almost all of the opening-round exchanges. Moicano, who is no slouch himself, was second best more often than not against the razor-sharp Fiziev, who is known as one of the most technically proficient strikers at 155-pounds today.

Landing a massive three-punch combination, Fiziev ripped with a left hook to the body, before lacing Moicano with a right-hook, followed up with a left hand on the exit — forcing the Brazilian to the canvas with a thud. It what seemed to bring Moicano ‘to’, the Brazilian landed heavily, and attempted to assume full-guard after a further ground-and-pound shot, with referee, Chris Tognoni stepping in to halt the action.

On the verge of a momentum snapping second straight loss, featherweight prospect, Chase ‘The Dream’ Hooper rallied expertly in the third-round, to nab a heel-hook submission of striker, Peter Barrett.

Suffering a slew of early and often leg kick attacks, Hooper was against the kosh from the get go, failing to land anything majorly impactful with a single round remaining in the night’s first bout. Shooting twice for an imanari roll on occasion in the second, Hooper briefly threatened.

Compremised due to a barrage of calf kicks, Hooper once more utilised an imanari roll to close range, this time setting up an inverted heel-hook with three-minutes elapsed on the final-round clock, eventually forcing the tap from Mark DellaGrote product, Barrett.
