The trilogy fight for the flyweight title between Brandon Moreno and Deiveson Figueiredo was just as good as their past two fights.

The two fighters met in a bout on Saturday night (January 22, 2022) at the UFC 270 pay-per-view event from Anaheim, California at the Honda Center. The first round saw Moreno catch him a few times, but was taken down only to roll through to his feet while Figueiredo had his back.

The second round saw Moreno stuff two takedown attempts and cracked him a few times with shots. The third round was wild as both were hurting each other in it. Figueiredo dropped him with a massive right hand then went for a guillotine choke, but the bell sounded. The fourth round was a close striking match.

The fifth round was crazy as they both caught each other at the end of the round and had a wild exchange with 30 seconds left. Figueiredo got the decision to win the flyweight title.

Peep the highlights of the fight courtesy of the UFC’s official Twitter account:

Their first fight took place at UFC 256 in December 2020 where they went to a majority draw. Their second fight was the UFC 263 co-main event in June 2021 where Moreno locked in a rear-naked choke for the win to become the new champion.

Before the first fight, Figueiredo was on a four-fight win streak. He got a first-round submission win over Alex Perez at UFC 255, a KO win over Joseph Benavidez at the UFC on ESPN+ 30 event from Abu Dhabi’s Yas Island aka Fight Island, another TKO win over Benavidez in February 2020, a decision win over Alexandre Pantoja at UFC 240 and then a submission victory over Tim Elliott in October 2019.

On the flip side heading into their first fight, Moreno had three straight wins including two back-to-back decision wins over Kai Kara-France at UFC 245 and Jussier Formiga in March 2020 before knocking out Brandon Royval at UFC 255.

Let’s see how the fighters reacted to the outcome of this fight:

Batie, Cameroon native, Ngannou enters the main event slot off the back of his undisputed championship victory against former two-time belt holder, Stipe Miocic at UFC 260 back in March — whom he finished with a brutal second round knockout.

For Gane, the undefeated Frenchman improved to 10-0 last time out in August — headlining UFC 265 against common-foe, Derrick Lewis, where he won the interim heavyweight title courtesy of a one-sided third round ground strikes stoppage win.

Taking co-headlining honors: a flyweight championship trilogy bout between reigning undisputed best, Brandon Moreno, and the former undisputed titleholder, Deiveson Figueiredo.

The pair initially met in the main event of UFC 256 in December 2020, battling to an eventual majority draw over the course of five rounds.

In June, co-headlining, UFC 263, Moreno minted himself as the undisputed champion with a rather comfortable third round rear-naked choke win over then-defending gold holder, Figueiredo.

Francis Ngannou

Despite Francis Ngannou (16-3 MMA) being widely renowned for his devastating knockout power. Head coach Eric Nicksick believes his fighter kicks are more agonizing than getting hit with a baseball bat.

Ngannou will be making his first defence of his Heavyweight title against the UFC’s interim titleholder and former teammate Ciryl Gane (10-0 MMA) at UFC 270.

The Heavyweight Champion trains under the direction of his head coaches Eric Nicksick and Dewey Cooper at Xtreme Couture in Las Vegas.

However, this came about after ‘The Predator’ chose to relocate camps at the end of 2018 after having multiple disagreements with his former head coach at the ‘MMA Factory’ in Paris, Fernand Lopez.

During a recent appearance on ‘The MMA Hour’ compared eating Ngannou’s leg kicks to being hit with a baseball and it was very clear what the MMA coach had an easier time dealing with.

“I’ve been hit in the back with a baseball bat before, and literally the bat, it broke. It was a wooden bat, it broke across my back, and it didn’t bother me one bit. Then I’ve been kicked by Francis to the point where I couldn’t walk for two weeks, man. Like, it’s bad. It hurts, man. It hurts bad.

“I’ll have the Fairtex (leg) pads on, and he’ll start kicking that pad — and the pad, all of a sudden, feels like it starts to get scared, and the pad starts to move apart. You’re like, ‘Oh man, this thing’s going to land hard. This thing’s going to land flush.” (Transcribed by the Mirror)

Nicksick further stated that Ngannou’s “ungodly” strength and power is something you cannot obtain and developed through training.

“It’s a different type of power, man, the way that this man can kick and punch and throw and generate power. It’s ungodly. There’s nothing that you can train to be like, that type of power,” Nicksick said.

Do you think Francis Ngannou can hand Ciryl Gane his first professional loss at UFC 270?
