Luke Rockhold

Former UFC middleweight champion Luke Rockhold was fired up at the official UFC weigh-in ahead of his highly anticipated return against Paulo Costa at UFC 278 on Saturday night.

Rockhold (16-5-0) has been chippy with the media all week leading up to his return after nearly three years on the shelf. Aside from the war of words with his UFC 278 opponent, Rockhold has taken aim at the UFC’s treatment of fighters, the Nelk Boys, and a media member for Full Send Entertainment. Nobody has been safe from Luke Rockhold‘s new tell-it-like-it-is persona including those at this morning’s official weigh-ins.

Rockhold successfully made weight by stepping onto the scale with his dog in tow and his watch still in his possession. Once his weight was announced, the former champion immediately stepped off until being prompted by a photographer to step back on the scale for a photo op. “What you want?!” Rockhold shouted back before obliging, stepping on the scale long enough to take his picture. Rockhold exited the state with the parting words, “f*cking let’s go!”

Nobody Has Been Safe From Luke Rockhold’s Wrath Ahead of UFC 278 Return

Ready to jump back into the thick of it against No. 6 ranked middleweight Paulo Costa, Luke Rockhold has been slinging truth bombs in the days leading up to his return. It all appeared to start during his appearance on ‘The MMA Hour‘ with Ariel Helwani. Discussing why he walked away from the UFC for so long, the former champion explained how the environment turned him “sour.”

“After losing the title, you get disrespected,” Rockhold said. “This is a mafia. You know how it is in the UFC. Dana ripped you (Ariel) from my seat that night and ripped you out of the UFC for doing your job. And there’s no rhyme or reason in this game and when you lose your leverage, these people try to step on you. And then you fight back. It’s a constant fight. It’s annoying. It’s f*cking sick. It’s disgusting and it needs to change.”

Luke Rockhold then turned his attention to Dana White and his association with the Nelk Boys, a YouTube group known for pranks and vlogs. They are also associated with Full Send Entertainment. Speaking to Shak Mahjouri on YouTube, Rockhold ripped Dana White for his association with the group and “popular culture.”

“Incorporating Full Send into the UFC is just the dumbest thing ever. I see these guys around here, I’m like, ‘Why the f*ck are these degenerate kids a part of our f*cking company? Why is Dana White… ‘cause he’s trying to buy into popular culture? Popular culture is going down the drain, it’s bringing the whole world down the drain, and people just need to wake up.”

Luke Rockhold’s wrath didn’t stop there when the returning middleweight took aim at a Full Send media member for giving a Mexican luchador mask to Marlon ‘Chito’ Vera who is Ecuadorian.

“I see all you guys around here right now, and I see this motherf*cker right here. You need to do your f*cking homework. This f*cking degenerate culture of Barstool Sports and Full Send, you gotta do your homework. You can’t approach ‘Chito’ and give him a f*cking Mexican mask and about his culture. His culture? He’s f*cking Ecuadorian motherf*cker. Do your homework,” Rockhold said.

Leon Edwards targets first title defense against Jorge Masvidal in the UK: “I’ll give the bum the opportunity”

Leon Edwards Masvidal

Leon Edwards has called for his first title defense to take place in the UK against Jorge Masvidal provided he can dethrone the current champion, Kamaru Usman, this weekend at UFC 278.

Leon Edwards has finally got his opportunity for gold this weekend when he takes on Kamaru Usman in the main event of UFC 278 for the welterweight belt. Both men have been taking out the competition within the 170-pound division following their first meeting which took place back in 2015. Usman who remains unbeaten inside of the UFC is looking to continue his dominant reign at the top of the division whilst Edwards has acquired himself a ten-fight unbeaten streak since losing to the champion.

If successful, Leon Edwards wants to face longstanding rival Jorge Masvidal, with the pair having clashed back in 2019 at UFC London following respective victories that night. Masvidal caused a cut under Edwards’s eye during the altercation that took place and therefore it comes as no surprise that ‘Rocky’ would like the opportunity to return the favor.

The two men have since been scheduled to face each other however it was Masvidal who was forced to withdraw from the bout due to Injury. Leon Edwards has welcomed the opportunity to face Masvidal provided he can get past Usman this weekend.

“That guy is a bum, I didn’t see his call out but he’s a bum anyway. He’s just looking for another title shot, but I’ll grant him his wish after this fight. I want it in the UK, I’ll give the bum the opportunity to come fight for the title just to show everyone how s*** he is.”

Edwards would be only the second British champion in UFC history if he is able to find victory at UFC 278. The only other man to lay claim to having done this, Michael Bisping, believes ‘Rocky’ has what it takes to dethrone the current champion, Kamaru Usman.

Jorge Masvidal favors Usman over Leon Edwards at UFC 278

Although Leon Edwards would welcome the chance to face Jorge Masvidal it appears as though ‘Gamebred’ does welcome the challenge but does not see it being for the welterweight strap. Speaking to MMA fighting, the UFC veteran believes Kamaru Usman will come out successful over the Brit this weekend at UFC 278.

“I don’t [see Edwards winning] to tell you the truth. It’s a fight, anything can happen. There’s no 1,000 percent winning for anybody in this sport. I don’t care if you’re undefeated. It’s just a matter of time. I think Usman wins more times than Leon wins if they were to fight five times.”

“I think Usman is a little more complete and at the end of the day, it will come down to the wrestling. On the feet, Leon’s a little bit more polished, maybe a little bit more variety with setups or attacks, but Usman’s wrestling, I think he’ll keep Leon honest to where he won’t open up as he would with a lot of guys. I see Usman winning.” (Transcribed by Mirror)

Regardless of the outcome of the UFC 278 main event this weekend, this is one fight fans will be wanting to see.

Jared Gordon

Jared Gordon spoke openly on the impact of competing in MMA and its effect on him ahead of his UFC 278 matchup against Leonardo Santos this upcoming weekend.

Competing in Mixed Martial Arts is extremely challenging not only on the body but the mind also and can have a serious toll on the athletes that choose to follow this path. In comparison to the challenges UFC lightweight Jared Gordon has already overcome in his life, this is nowhere near the same level.

Speaking openly in an interview back in 2017 Gordon revealed a low moment within his life when the now 33-year-old was struggling to deal with addiction and found himself absorbed by the harsh realities that come with drug addiction. In Gordon’s case, it was originally painkillers but then lead to Heroin.

“I overdosed three times. I was facing 25 years to life at one point. I’ve been homeless, panhandling, I’ve been to psych wards. I’ve been to rehab 10 times, and I’ve had near-death situations.

“At this point, I just consider myself grateful and extremely lucky and blessed to be where I am.”

Jared Gordon Opens Up On The Reality of Competing In MMA

Having pulled himself out of a place that not many could have Jared Gordon now has a new perspective on not only his life but his career too. Speaking to the media ahead of UFC 278 fight week the 18-5 lightweight responded to a question regarding whether competing within the sport had helped him overcome the adversity that he had previously faced. Here is what he had to say.

“MMA hasn’t helped me at all. Actually, it’s made my life worse. I’m not even joking. MMA doesn’t give me any fulfillment, whatsoever,” he told reporters.

“I’m able to use my platform to help people through MMA, but whether I win or lose, three days later, I’m miserable again. Now, I gotta do it again.”

“It’s like drugs. I gotta look for another fix, or what’s next, what’s next? You see it all the time, these guys become multiple-time world champions, and they’re fighting into their 40s, looking for that next thing. They’re looking for something, they’re trying to fill a void.”

“The only thing that fills my void is god, my family, my wife, my relationships, and helping other people. That’s the only thing that gives me fulfillment, is helping other people,” he said.

“All my shiny shit doesn’t do anything for me, my car. I’m wearing a Rolex right now, and it’s just for this (presser). I like it, but it’s like a burden on my life. I’m still paying it off, I’ve owned it for a year.

“Fighting… I love martial arts, it’s my passion, and I love competing. But now, it’s not for me. None of this is for me. It’s for the people that I’m trying to help.” (Transcribed by BloodyElbow).

Having overcome difficulties in his life before it is remarkable to see how far ‘Flash’ has come to this present day. Gordon will now have his focus on returning to the winning column this weekend as he takes on 42-year-old veteran Leonardo Santos. Gordon last competed inside the octagon at UFC Vegas 53 where he suffered a submission loss at the hands of Grant Dawson.

Jared Gordon was recently in the news for a different reason after the UFC lightweight was forced to subdue an attacker who came at him and his family with a baseball bat.

Do you think Jared Gordon will return to the winning column this weekend?

Entering his premier UFC title challenger this weekend at UFC 278 as the consensus underdog, welterweight challenger, Leon Edwards has been backed by his compatriot, former undisputed middleweight kingpin, Michael Bisping to defeat champion, Kamaru Usman – in what he describes as a “tough fight” for both division standouts.

Edwards, who rides a 10-fight undefeated run into his first title challenge under the UFC banner this weekend in Salt Lake City, last fought in June of last year at UFC 263, defeating the veteran, Nate Diaz in a unanimous decision win.

For Usman, the Auchi pacesetter looks to turn in a staggering sixteenth straight UFC win when pitted with Edwards in their rematch, as well as secure his sixth successful defense of the undisputed welterweight crown.

First meeting on the preliminary card of a UFC Orlando event back in December 2015, Usman successfully defeated Edwards over the course of three rounds in a unanimous decision effort in the ‘Sunshine State’.

Michael Bisping picks underdog Leon Edwards to win at UFC 278 tomorrow

Seven years on, Edwards has been touted as one of the biggest tests to Usman’s dominant reign to boot. And the aforenoted Manchester favorite, Bisping has sided with the Birmingham technician to follow in his footsteps and land Octagon gold.

“It’s a tough fight for both men and I truly am torn,” Michael Bisping said on his YouTube channel. “I’m friends with Kamaru Usman, I respect his body of work greatly, but if you think I’m gonna sit here on my YouTube channel, being a proud Brit, and pick against Leon Edwards, you’re out of your God damn mind. I gotta do it. I gotta go with team U.K. just to send that positivity into the atmosphere.”

“I’ve got Leon Edwards winning via decision,” Michael Bisping explained. “So, there you go. If Leon wins, it’s because he’s going to outpoint him for five rounds. If Kamaru wins, it’s probably because he’s gonna rock him with a right hand, take him down and try and ragdoll him on the floor.” (Transcribed by MMA Fighting)

Kamaru Usman touts ‘death grip’ ahead of UFC 278, not planning weight gain ahead of light heavyweight move

Kamaru Usman

Ahead of his UFC 278 headliner this weekend in Salt Lake City, undisputed welterweight champion, Kamaru Usman has flaunted an apparent “death grip” ahead of an eventual light heavyweight division leap, however, doesn’t plan on ballooning in mass to make the climb.

Usman, the current undisputed welterweight champion, returns to the Octagon for the first time this year atop this Saturday’s UFC 278 card at the Vivint Arena – rematching title challenger, Leon Edwards as he searches for his sixth successful title defense. Usman previously defeated Edwards in a unanimous decision win back in December 2015.

Kamaru Usman doubts the need for a weight gain ahead of a light heavyweight leap

Adding fuel to the fire on a potential light heavyweight division move, Usman has welcomed immediate title clashes against either champion, Jiri Prochazka, or Brazilian veteran, Glover Teixeira, as well as a landing against Jan Blachowicz.

However, akin to his fellow Nigerian-born champion, Israel Adesanya at middleweight – Usman claims he would not seek out a sizeable weight gain to make the light heavyweight limit.

“I don’t need to put on the weight,” Kamaru Usman told MMA Junkie. “People don’t understand what my death grip is like. If I get around you, I don’t care if whether you’re a heavyweight or 205 (pounds) – these guys understand where my strength is. But I’ll leave that up to my coaches. I have an idea what I want to do in a fight, but I’ll leave that up to my coaches.”

“I have an approach of how I want to fight those fights in my head, which usually comes out when everything else is falling in a fight,” Kamaru Usman explained.

Successfully defending his welterweight throne on five separate occasions, Usman holds knockout wins over both Jorge Masvidal, and Colby Covington – to go with decision wins over the pair, as well as a knockout win over former teammate, Gilbert Burns last year.
