Conor McGregor continues to do his part for the nation of Ireland amid the coronavirus pandemic.

The former two-weight UFC champion has been calling for Irish citizens to remain quarantined and follow all the social distancing guidelines that have been suggested. Most recently, he posted a video urging the Irish government to go into a “true lockdown” to combat the virus.

Irish politician Paschal Donohoe saw the video and reached out to McGregor thanking him for his message while at the same time stating that more must be done to encourage social distancing.

McGregor shared the DMs on Twitter in which he announced he would be purchasing over $1 million worth of personal protective equipment to be deployed to hospitals in the Leinster province.

“Today I am purchasing myself, 1 million euro worth of personal protective equipment to be deployed to all the fighting hospitals in the Leinster region,” McGregor wrote. “Our most affected region, to this date.

“St. James. Mater, Tallaght, Beaumont. Vincent’s. Where we would be without these brave men and women? I do not know. May God bless over them and keep them safe!”

“The Notorious” also added that he felt the government should be doing more to enforce rules and keep the people safe.

“We need more units on the street to enforce this lockdown Pascal! It has been too lax! Building sites should be closed,” he added. “They are open for what? We can always build again after this. In every way. But, we must put Health before Wealth. I respect you, and your team and I believe you are doing as good a job as you possibly can. I have been impressed by all. As has the nation. I feel like we are moving in the right way, it just feels to me like it is not all the way.

“I urge all the way! ‘All in’ is the term we must use here. Bit by bit will cost us lives. To see what is happening here in Ireland and all across the entire globe, is heartbreaking to me. I pray. God speed Minister and thank you for the message, and your service to our nation.”

As of Tuesday, there are over 1,300 confirmed cases of coronavirus in the Republic of Ireland.

Ali Abdelaziz, Khabib Nurmagomedov’s manager, makes it clear the lightweight champion doesn’t fight for money.

Nurmagomedov is someone that has made it clear he doesn’t want the rematch with Conor McGregor unless the Irishman wins several fights. But, the Dagestani lightweight champion doesn’t fight for money.

“[Champions should focus on] getting paid – except for one guy,” Abdelaziz told MMA Junkie at Dominance MMA’s recent media day at Park Theater. “I think everybody should get paid. Khabib is not about getting paid. He’s a little different. I think he should fight for money. That’s what he’s doing this for, [but] Khabib is a little bit different.

“When he leaves, we’re all going to miss him – the way he handled the sport [and] handled himself. I think Khabib could fight for five more years, but if he retired tomorrow, I’m happy. If he fought a fight tomorrow, I’m happy. I want him to do what he wants.”

Khabib Nurmagomedov is scheduled to fight Tony Ferguson at UFC 249 on April 18 at a location TBD. There were reports it would take place in Florida. Yet, the champion is back in Russia so whether or not he even can get back to the United States at this point.

Nurmagomedov is coming off a third-round submission win over Dustin Poirier to defend his lightweight title for the second time. In his first title defense he beat Conor McGregor by submission after beating Al Iaquinta to win the title. The Dagestani champion has notable wins over Michael Johnson, Edson Barboza, Rafael dos Anjos, and Gleison Tibau among others.

Tony Ferguson, meanwhile, is riding a very impressive 12-fight winning streak where he’s coming off a TKO win over Donald Cerrone. Before that, he beat Anthony Pettis by corner stoppage.

Dillian Whyte

British heavyweight boxer Dillian Whyte has called out UFC fighters Stipe
Miocic and Francis Ngannou.

The 31-year-old from London holds the WBC interim heavyweight title and has been the organisation’s number one contender for more than three years. He has been unable to secure his mandatory shot at former champion Deontay Wilder and will have to wait a little longer before getting a shot at new titleholder Tyson Fury.

‘Bodysnatcher’ holds high profile wins over the likes of Dereck Chisora, Oscar Rivas and, Joseph Parker. However, he is most known for fighting bitter rival Anthony Joshua in 2015. Despite losing the fight Whyte came out with credit due to the fact he wobbled the future world champion in the second round before ultimately being stopped himself five rounds later.

Whyte is currently scheduled to face Russian heavyweight Alexander Povetkin on May 2 in Manchester, England. Although the fight is yet to be officially postponed, it seems unlikely to go ahead due to the ongoing COVID-19 crisis.

This is clearly something the Brit is aware of and he appears to have begun his search for some new opponents. In a video interview posted on his YouTube channel, Whyte – who has a kickboxing background – called out UFC heavyweight champion Stipe Miocic, he said.

“I’ll fight Stipe Miocic. I’ll kick him in the face. I’ll give Stipe one of these [elbows]. All I’ve gotta do with Stipe is just keep him moving. He’ll just try take me down, he might go to sleep before I go down though.”

“Yeah, I’ll
fight UFC. I’ll do one boxing fight, one UFC. One boxing fight, one MMA fight,
tell Dana White to hit me up.

Whyte then
proceeded to call out scary power puncher Ngannou, who he called a coward with
no chin, he said.

“I’ll fight
Francis Ngannou. I would lick him down. He ain’t go not chin, he’s a coward
bro. I would knock out Francis Ngannou, trust me. All he can do is try and take
me down, that’s it.

One boxing fight, one MMA fight. If you want MMA first, let’s go. Boxing first, let’s go. Even Muay Thai, fight me in kickboxing – three-fight deal, tell Dana White.” (Transcribed by TalkSport)

UFC Rankings Update

Jairzinho Rozenstruik says he’d be open to fighting Francis Ngannou at UFC 249 on April 18.

Originally, Rozenstruik and Ngannou were set to headline UFC Columbus but the event was postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. When the two will fight again is unknown at this time, as Rozenstruik says he is waiting on an update.

“We’re doing what we have to do, keeping training, waiting for an update,” Rozenstruik told The Schmo recently (via MMA Fighting). “Now we’ve slowed the pace a little bit down. As soon as we have an update, we’ll squeeze it back up and we’re on. So we’re ready for whatever.”

One possible option for when the fight will take place is April 18 according to Rozenstruik as he says he’d be happy to fight then. Ngannou, also recently said he has been tested and prepared to fight at UFC 249. So it does seem like a logical option.

“I’d be happy to dance 18th of April,” Rozenstruik said. “I can’t wait for this [fight] to happen because we’ve been working hard for it and the fun has to come out right now. It’s about time.”

For now, Jairzinho Rozenstruik is just on standby mode waiting for the UFC to tell him the date for when they will fight.

“A couple days ago [the UFC] called and they said the situation – maybe a month or later [is when we will fight],” Rozenstruik said. “So we’re waiting for an actual date so we know when we’re gonna dance. . . The situation is crazy. I really want to dance and then go back to the family and get back to normal and hope the situation settles up really fast.”

Rozenstruik is undefeated and currently coming off a fifth-round TKO win over Alistair Overeem. Before that, he knocked out Andrei Arlovski at UFC 244.

Francis Ngannou

Heavyweight contender Francis Ngannou says he has been
tested for coronavirus ahead of a potential fight at UFC 249 on April 18.

The former title challenger was scheduled to face Jairzinho Rozenstruik at UFC Columbus on March 28 however, due to the ongoing pandemic that card was scrapped.

Speaking to Submission Radio, Ngannou revealed the fight may still take place on the UFC 249, which Dana White has promised will go ahead at a location to be confirmed.

“There is a chance that I can be fighting on that
card, but they have to settle everything down. Like, for now, it seems like
they have a location, but they have to double check and see how they can handle
this event safely for people. Because, first of all, it’s not just about
(fighters). They are not just expecting to work with people that are fighting,
they’re also trying to make things to care about our health. So, I got tested,
they got me tested for the COVID-19, so I guess they tested other fighters, which
is kind of like a positive thing, and like, makes you feel a little bit safe to
get close or along with those people.”

Despite the
ongoing crisis Ngannou explained why is still happy to fight next month, he
said.

“No. I mean, I
won’t be concerned, because once again, okay, I don’t wanna say that COVID-19
is nothing, I don’t want to say it’s not bad, but technically I think it’s a
flu that we have all the time. The only problem with it is that it’s contagious
and it can spread very fast. But no, I won’t be concerned about it because even
after I’ve had a test, I wasn’t very worried. I was like, okay, whatever it is,
it’s gonna be okay. It’s not like bad. Because, I think the thing right now is
just the panic. So, this thing has caused more panic then the real pain itself.
We are just panicking.”
