Last night, we saw Ultimate Fighter coach Michael Bisping dominate Jason “Mayhem” Miller.

After the two put together one of the most exciting Ultimate Fighter seasons in recent history, Bisping made quick work of Miller and proved to the UFC and the rest of the world that he is a top contender in the middleweight division.

With the win, Bisping seems to be one fight away from finally getting a shot at champion Anderson Silva, and many believed that he and former No. 1 contender Chael Sonnen would fight to see who gets the champ next.

However, quickly after the fight, it was reported that Sonnen’s next opponent would be fellow contender Mark Munoz on the UFC’s second event on Fox.

It is unknown who Bisping’s next opponent will be, but according to reports by ESPN.com, we could be finding out quite soon,

“Me and Dana [White] have had a talk already, I need to have a think and a talk with my family, but there should be an announcement real soon,” said Bisping.

It could be a quick turn around for the Brit as UFC’s second card on Fox is rumored as his next featured card.

A rematch with Wanderlei Silva has been ruled out by Bisping, but one possible opponent could be former No. 1 contender Demian Maia.

Maia could be one of the only options, as other top contenders Yushin Okami and Vitor Belfort have already been booked for an upcoming fight.

With Sonnen-Munoz, as well as Rashad Evans and Phil Davis already on the card, a fight between Bisping and Maia could be the third of the four fights to be featured on the main card.

Maia has improved his striking since his embarrassing title loss to Anderson Silva and could challenge Bisping on the feet.

His jiu-jitsu, however, is top-notch and if the fight were to go to the ground, it could get interesting.

Regardless of who Bisping’s next opponent will be, a win will undoubtedly earn him his first career title shot.

The UFC agreed a landmark deal with Fox on August 18th, 2011. They will get to show four events for free every year. The deal is looking to bring a lot of new fans to the UFC.

As a kind of preview for the deal, the UFC put on UFC on Fox 1. The fight’s headline was Cain Velasquez facing Junior Dos Santos for the heavyweight title. The fight would only last just over a minute.

Just one week later, UFC 139 would take place and the main event—Shogun vs. Henderson—was viewed by many as the best fight ever! Many people asked Dana whether he regretted not putting this fight on Fox.

Dana stated that he was happy as it would have led to complaints, and that they needed to ease fans into UFC. This suggests Dana will keep certain fighters off the Fox channel for while. This slideshow will look at the fighters I don’t expect to see on Fox.

UFC on Fox 2: Is Phil Davis Ready for the Big Leagues?

Phil Davis is the perfect example of an up and coming fighter and future super star. He is a decorated collegiate wrestler with an undefeated professional MMA record, and at 27 years old, he is in the prime of his life.

“Mr. Wonderful” has defeated all five of his opponents the UFC has thrown at him to include fan favorite Brian Stann, Pride legend Antônio Rogério Nogueira, and even fellow up and comer and possible future title contender Alexander Gustafsson.

With all that said, there should be no doubt in anyone’s mind that he is deserving of a shot at Rashad Evans in the main event of UFC on Fox 2 on Jan. 28, 2012, especially since in many ways his path to the tile is not so different than the one Evans originally took.

Rewind to Sep. 6th, 2008 to UFC 88 and you will see a 28 year old undefeated Rashad Evans taking on a former light-heavyweight champion Chuck Liddell in a title-eliminator bout.

Like Davis, Rashad had faced off against a legend in the form of Tito Ortiz, a fellow up and comer in Michael Bisping and a fan favorite named Stephan Bonnar.

Unlike Davis however, Rashad’s path took more fights, as his fight with Ortiz was ruled a draw. Also unlike Davis, Rashad was headlining PPV fights even before his bout with Liddell, but as the winner of Season 2 of The Ultimate Fighter, this was expected.

The question should not be if Phil Davis is ready for the big leagues, because anyone would be hard pressed to find an up and coming fighter more ready than him.

The real question is if his path to the title will become even more like Rashad’s, in that he will walk away with a KO victory and go on to claim the title in similar fashion.

For Rashad’s sake, let’s hope not. But if your name is Phil Davis, then Rashad is the perfect opponent to defeat and prove to the world why you belong in the big leagues.

And that’s the bottom line.

While Michael Bisping’s dominant win over Jason Miller this weekend put the Count even deeper “in the mix” at middleweight, he still won’t be next in line for a title shot. The UFC confirmed yesterday afternoon that despite conflicting reports, Chael Sonnen and Mark Munoz will indeed be facing off at UFC on FOX 2 (January 28th, Chicago), with the winner earning a shot at Anderson Silva’s coveted 185-pound belt.

While Michael Bisping’s dominant win over Jason Miller this weekend put the Count even deeper “in the mix” at middleweight, he still won’t be next in line for a title shot. The UFC confirmed yesterday afternoon that despite conflicting reports, Chael Sonnen and Mark Munoz will indeed be facing off at UFC on FOX 2 (January 28th, Chicago), with the winner earning a shot at Anderson Silva‘s coveted 185-pound belt.

Sonnen won his first post-suspension fight at UFC 136 in October, choking out Brian Stann in the second round. Last week he hosted the World MMA Awards, and successfully charmed Ronda Rousey into giddiness on the red carpet. Munoz has won four straight fights in the Octagon, most recently scoring a corner stoppage TKO over Chris Leben at UFC 138.

Sonnen and Munoz will join UFC on FOX 2 headliners Rashad Evans and Phil Davis in a press conference this Wednesday at the United Center in Chicago to discuss the event. We’ll see if Munoz brings up the fact that Sonnen wrestled him dirty back in college.

Rashad Evans and Chael Sonnen are reportedly set for returns to the Octagon at UFC on Fox 2 on Jan. 28 at Chicago’s United Center.

While no announcement has been made from UFC officials, MMAjunkie.com today first reported the news that Evans is set to face Phil Davis while Sonnen takes on Mark Munoz.

Evans most recently defeated former light heavyweight champion Tito Ortiz at UFC 133 this past August by technical knockout.

With the victory came an hand injury that forced Evans out of action, which caused him to miss the opportunity to dethrone rival Jon Jones at next Saturday’s UFC 140 pay-per-view in Toronto.

Evans’ opponent that night was scheduled to be Davis himself, but an knee injury forced his exit from the fight and he’s been out of action ever since.

With a victory over Davis, Evans is expected to be awarded a shot at the winner of Jones and Lyoto Machida.

Davis and Evans will headline the event, which is set for five-rounds.

As for Sonnen and Munoz, they each make returns fresh off impressive victories.

Sonnen defeated Brian Stann at UFC 136 by second round submission after dominating Stann throughout the first round with superior ground work.

The victory was Sonnen’s first fight since dominating champion Anderson Silva for the better part of four-and-a-half rounds with superior wrestling and ground work before slipping up and falling to an fifth-round submission from Silva.

Many expected Sonnen to rematch Silva in the first quarter of 2012, but an shoulder injury to Silva has evidently led to a matchup with Munoz.

Munoz, a former NCAA D-I wrestling standout has claimed victory in four-consecutive fights with his most recent win coming against Chris Leben at UFC 138.

Like Sonnen, Munoz’ strength is his wrestling so it will be interesting to see who truly is the more dominant ground practioner.

Munoz and Sonnen will be the co-headliner for the UFC’s second event on Fox.

Will Rashad Evans Finally Earn A Title Shot if He Beats Phil Davis?

Rashad Evans finally gets his chance at redemption and prove that he remains a contender at 205 pounds.

It was recently announced that the next installment of UFC on FOX will feature a light heavyweight matchup between Evans and Phil Davis, which is expected to headline the card. Evans and Davis were originally supposed to square off at UFC 133 before a knee injury forced Davis out of the bout.

“Suga” will now be relied upon to carry a free television card in a bout likely filled with title implications.

Evans has had a promising career so far and he looks determined to challenge for the UFC light heavyweight title in the near future. Evans’ relationship with current champion Jon Jones has turned sour ever since the 24-year-old opted to face Evans after winning the UFC light heavyweight title earlier this year.

Evans now has the opportunity to retain his No.1 contender status with a victory over Davis.

The fact that the UFC is deciding to promote Evans in the main event shows they are confident in his image and ability to market the fight and potentially emerge as the next title contender in the light heavyweight division. Evans has widely been regarded as one of the best competitors at 205 pounds for the past couple years, however, injuries have hindered his chances to compete for a title shot.

Should he get past Davis, Evans will face the winner of UFC 140’s main event between Jon Jones and Lyoto Machida. Either bout featuring Evans would be intriguing, however the more compelling and anticipated matchup is between Evans and Jones. The former teammates’ rivalry would certainly draw a lot of viewers and heighten the popularity of both fighters.

Evans’ destiny is firmly in his control and a victory over Davis will direct him to a title shot, which he has desperately been seeking for a while. Otherwise, a loss would only further himself down the rankings and be considered a huge disappointment.
