It’s finally over.

Jon Jones vs. Rashad Evans has been in the makings for over a year, with both fighters regularly taking shots at each other through the media, and at UFC 145 they buried the hatchet.

Jones and Evans met in the main event, and the champion was able to defeat Evans handily, racking up his third straight title defense.

It wasn’t Jones’ most dominant performance, but he was able to keep Evans at bay throughout the fight by using his unorthodox striking and reach advantage. It was clear Evans felt uncomfortable striking with Jones and, as a result, Evans ended up in “defense mode” for much of the fight.

Without a doubt, this is the toughest loss of Rashad’s career, as he failed to recapture the UFC light heavyweight championship and was bested by a fighter he used to mentor.

Despite the loss, Evans can take some solace in that he is the only man to go all five rounds with Jones and that he also landed some big right hands throughout the fight.

So, coming off the biggest loss of his career, what’s next for Rashad Evans?

Ryan Bader is a possibility. Bader is coming off the biggest victory of his career against Quinton Jackson at UFC 144.

Another possibility is Alexander Gustafsson, who recently defeated Thiago Silva.

Both of these men are budding contenders in the light heavyweight division, and halting their momentum would be a great way for Evans to get himself back into the title picture.

Jon Jones successfully defended the UFC light heavyweight championship for a third time Saturday night when he won a unanimous decision over former champion Rashad Evans at UFC 145 in Atlanta.

Despite tremendous animosity between the two heading into the contest, Jones was able to keep his composure and not allow himself to get emotional at any point during their 25-minute affair. Although the entire contest occurred on the feet, it was shocking how easily Jones was able to shuck off Evans’ rare takedown attempts.

At this point in the game, Jones has defeated the four light heavyweights who have sat atop the division for years. This undeniable success is helping Jones make the case that he is the greatest light heavyweight of all time. The only sensible fight to make at this point in time is putting him against another man who has a claim to that title: Dan Henderson.

Stay tuned for Bleacher Report’s coverage of the post-fight press conference for information on what’s next for our reigning champion.

In tonight’s first heavyweight bout, Travis Browne (13-0-1) picked up a first-round submission win over Strikeforce veteran Chad Griggs (11-2).

Browne quickly got his opponent down after delivering a double flying knee. Once Browne obtained full mount, he locked on the arm-triangle choke, moved to side mount and forced his opponent to tap.

“I belong here,” Browne said in his post-fight interview. “UFC heavyweights, watch out.”

Now 4-0-1 in the UFC, Browne is quickly becoming one of the better UFC heavyweights rising through the ranks, especially when considering his win streak. Not many HW’s are on a win streak outside of champion Junior dos Santos, Frank Mir and Mark Hunt.

For his next bout, it will have to come against a quality opponent. Even if it’s not going to put him into contention, a fight vs. the winner of the upcoming Lavar Johnson and Pat Barry fight would be fireworks.

Tonight’s pay-per-view event will be headlined by UFC light heavyweight champion Jon “Bones” Jones, who will be taking on a former teammate in “Sugar” Rashad Evans, who is a former champion and currently riding a four-fight win streak.

Both have been hyping the fight since last year, when Jones replaced Evans against Mauricio “Shogun” Rua and defeated him in the third round to win the title and become the youngest UFC champion.

Since his win over Rua, Jones has defeated Lyoto Machida and Quinton Jackson to seal off what was one of the more impressive years of a mixed martial artist.

Other bouts on the card include Rory MacDonald vs. Che Mills, Brendan Schaub vs. Ben Rothwell, Michael McDonald vs. Miguel Torres, Mark Hominick vs. Eddie Yagin and Mark Bocek vs. John Alessio.
