Tyron Woodley has opened as a big underdog against Vicente Luque.
It was recently reported that a fight between the former welterweight champion and Luque was in the works for the UFC 260 pay-per-view event taking place March 27.
And oddsmakers don’t seem to have much confidence in Woodley.
As per BestFightOdds, Woodley has opened as a +205 underdog while Luque is a -240 favorite.
That means you would earn $205 if you bet $100 on a Woodley victory while you would need to stake $240 on a Luque win to make a $100 profit.
All in all, these odds aren’t surprising.
Luque is on a two-fight winning streak following victories over Niko Price and Randy Brown and has won eight of his last nine outings.
Woodley, meanwhile, is on a three-fight losing streak following lopsided defeats to Kamaru Usman, Colby Covington and Gilbert Burns. Additionally, he has lost his last 15 rounds of competitive action.
For context, Woodley also opened as a +210 underdog against Colby Covington. However, it is still surprising to see him open as a similar underdog against Luque who while still a top welterweight, is not a top-five ranked one for now and is also purely a striker.
Regardless, what do you think of these odds? Are you willing to take a punt on Woodley getting back to the win column?

Former UFC welterweight champion Tyron Woodley is reportedly in talks to face off against Brazilian stand-out, Vicente Luque at UFC 260, March 27th.
The targeted bout will land on likely the main card that already features Stipe Miocic vs Francis Ngannou 2 and Alexander Volkanovski vs Brian Ortega. Contracts have not been signed as of yet, but that is the plan for the young lion and the old.
ESPN reporter Ariel Helwani took to Twitter to announce Woodley vs. Luque is in the works.
“Stipe Miocic vs. Francis Ngannou a done deal for March 27, sources say. Co-main is Alexander Volkanovski vs. Brian Ortega for the featherweight title,” Helwani wrote. “Another fight being discussed for that card is Tyron Woodley vs. Vicente Luque but that is not a done deal just yet, sources say.”
“The Silent Assassin” has bounced back from his 2019 loss to Stephen “Wonderboy” Thompson to knock off 2 names off his hit-list, being Niko Price and Randy Brown via TKO. He hopes to capture the biggest win of his career should he fight Woodley in March’s second pay-per-view event.
Tyron Woodley hasn’t had any luck recently. The former king of 170 has dropped 3 in a row, to now-champion Kamaru Usman and top contenders, Gilbert Burns and Colby Covington. This unfortunate string of defeats proves to be Woodley’s longest losing streak. He hopes to get back in the win column and prove that he is still among the best welterweights in the world.
Who do you think will win at UFC 260? Tyron Woodley or Vicente Luque?

With uber-prospect, Khamzat ‘Borz’ Chimaev out of his first promotional headliner on January 20 against perennial welterweight contender, Leon ‘Rocky’ Edwards — some notable suitors have offered their services on short notice to meet to the Birmingham native at the ‘Fight Island’ event.
Streaking fan-favourite, Kevin ‘The Trailblazer’ Holland, and one-time opponent of Edwards, Vicente ‘The Silent Assassin’ Luque have both offered Edwards the opportunity to feature at the Flash Forum, Abu Dhabi, UAE showcase.
With reasons for Chimaev’s withdrawal still undisclosed, this marks the second time in just over a month a pairing of the two has been shelved. Originally scheduled to headline the promotion’s final event of the year at UFC Vegas 17 on December 19 — Edwards was forced to remove himself from the card after he was struck down with a particularly hampering case of the novel coronavirus.
Luque, of course, shared the Octagon with the Team Renagade BJJ & MMA mainstay, Edwards back at UFC Fight Night London back in March of 2017, on his way to a unanimous decision defeat. Edwards would go on to compile an eight-fight win streak which he’s still currently riding.
The 29-year-old New York-born finish, Luque has won two-straight this year — knocking back Niko Price again before an August knockout of Randy Brown.
Taking to his official Twitter account this afternoon, Holland claimed he would draft in on January 20 against Edwards, urging the promotion to “call big mouth“.
“Hold up, so am I hearing the #UFCFightIsland hotel has a vacancy and needs a real man to come in and do work on January 20th? #callbigmouth
Hoping to avenge his 2017 decision loss to Edwards, the above mentioned Luque also threw his name into the hat in the hopes of securing a rematch.
“I’m ready to get that rematch with @Leon_edwardsmma I know MMA fans would love to watch it! Let’s go @ufc @seanshelby @AliAbdelaziz00“

UFC welterweight Max Griffin is targeting a big name opponent next.
With the damage he inflicted on Brahimaj going viral, Griffin is now looking ahead to a bigger name and has two in particular that he wants — former interim champion Carlos Condit and current ranked welterweight Vicente Luque.
“I have respect for all these guys, but there are some names I need to throw out,” Griffin said after the fight (via MMA Junkie). “Carlos Condit, I’ve always wanted to fight a legend like him. I have so much respect for him. I love that man.
“And Vicente Luque—he’s a beast. He slugs it out and that would be a sick fight.”
In reality, a fight with Luque seems highly unlikely.
The Brazilian is currently ranked No. 10 in the welterweight rankings and is looking to climb up further by facing similarly ranked opponents. Griffin, meanwhile, is unranked and only just snapped a two-fight losing streak.
That said, a fight with Condit is more likely.
The 36-year-old recently snapped a five-fight losing streak with a unanimous decision win over Court McGee last month. He is unlikely to face a ranked opponent anytime soon and it would make more sense for him to face unranked opponents such as Griffin who will be looking to add a legend to their resume.
Given that Griffin prefers to strike rather than grapple, it would certainly be an entertaining contest.
