Conor McGregor’s Bus Attack Still Has Rose Namajunas Traumatized

Rose Namajunas still can’t go out in public because of Conor McGregor’s Brooklyn attack.

Conor McGregor may be returning at October’s UFC 229, but the effects of his April Brooklyn bus attack that left Rose Namajunas traumatized still resonate.

The UFC women’s strawweight champion almost didn’t participate in her rematch with former champ Joanna Jedrzejczyk at UFC 223. ‘Thug’ Rose was in the bus that McGregor attacked with a metal dolly and saw the chaos firsthand.

“The Notorious” was aiming for his current rival Khabib Nurmagomedov, yet he ended up spraying broken glass onto other fighters. Ray Borg and Michael Chiesa were unable to fight due to injuries sustained.  Namajunas, however, may have been left with most lasting damage. The 115-pound champion reportedly suffered some severe anxiety.

That hasn’t subsided, unfortunately. Namajunas’ coach Trevor Wittman recently revealed on “Ariel Helwani’s MMA Show” that the champion still has trouble going outside:

“She doesn’t leave her house. It’s still there. She doesn’t go in public places. When you’re in a public place and there’s people everywhere, you’re going to be like ‘Oh my god, what could happen?’ Like if you’re involved in a 9/11 bombing, it’s gonna be hard to be in a city scenario. Every time you get in an elevator you’re gonna think of it.”

Wittman also called the UFC’s usage of the attack footage as promotional material as poor taste. There’s no doubt it will help sell the massive lightweight title fight between McGregor and Nurmagomedov at October 6’s UFC 229, but the fight was going to sell and sell big anyway.

Namajunas’ coach thinks it’s simply not classy to use others’ emotional trauma to sell fights. In today’s money-focused UFC era, that obviously doesn’t matter.

Namajunas was able to overcome her fears and defend her title against Jedrzjczyk at UFC 223. Her problems appear to be lingering on far past that due to the sheer veracity of the attack.

The UFC women’s 115-pound champ does not have a fight scheduled as of this writing. If she’s unable to go out in public for the time being, it could be some time before we see her again.

Miesha Tate Goes Off On Donald Cerrone vs. JacksonWink

Miesha Tate sounded off on the Donald Cerrone/JacksonWink drama.

The post Miesha Tate Goes Off On Donald Cerrone vs. JacksonWink appeared first on LowKickMMA.com.

This week, the MMA world was beset by a surprising drama between UFC vet Donald Cerrone and his longtime gym JacksonWink MMA. Now it’s time Miesha Tate goes off on the bitter feud.

The drama fixated on a disagreement centered on the direction of the gym. Cerrone said he wanted the Albuquerque, NM-based MMA mecca to remain true to helping top fighters. He thinks the team’s decreased win percentage is a testament to how they’ve fallen.

But JacksonWink co-owner Mike Winkeljohn soon responded. His stance focused on his idea that ‘Cowboy’ is only about himself and could not be more narcissistic. It’s created a heated debate in MMA circles due to the personal nature of the conflict.

A Top Name Supports Cerrone

Some have sided with ‘Cowboy,’ others with one of the sport’s top gyms. A prominent name who sided with the former is former UFC women’s bantamweight champion Miesha Tate. Tate opened up on the situation on Sirius XM Fight Nation’s MMA Tonight (via MMA Fighting), noting that JacksonWink has been in this precarious spot before:

“This is reminiscent,” Tate said. “I feel like we’ve heard this story about this camp before when it was Rashad Evans and him feeling like he was pushed out of the spot with Jon Jones coming in.

“What I think is not cool, if it had been someone that had been training there like Carlos Condit or someone like that who had been training there a long time and they were gonna fight each other and both had that mutual respect, and mutual foundation at that gym, that’s different. But when the new guy is coming in and he’s like, ‘I wanna fight Cowboy’ and he comes to Cowboy’s gym, I think that the right thing to do by the gym – I think there’s some loyalty that should be towards Cowboy. He’s been there a really, really long time.”

Loyalty In Question

Much of the beef between Cerrone and JacksonWink centers around ‘Cowboy’s’ upcoming UFC Denver opponent Mike Perry. “Platinum” was fixated on fighting Cerrone as he began training at JacksonWink. Cerrone wasn’t happy about that.

Tate believes the gym should have been more loyal to their longtime flagship member. She suggested they should not have accepted Perry into their fold right before he fought Cerrone:

“‘This is probably not the camp for you to come in, Mike, because you’re fighting our boy. Cowboy has been with us forever. We’d love for you to come in for the next camp but Cowboy’s our dude,’” Tate said. “That’s how I think. Even though I know Cowboy doesn’t drive there every single day, he doesn’t train at the gym – there are some other reasons I think behind that, I think – that’s just me. That’s how I hope my gym would operate if I was under those circumstances.”

The drama has boiled over into many different perspectives. Longtime JacksonWink MMA fighter Diego Sanchez supported the gym. Perry promised he would send Cerrone to a ‘beautiful death’ when they fought.

The discord is quickly becoming personal as it takes over MMA headlines for this week. Where do you stand with this heated faceoff?

Paige VanZant’s UFC Return Rumored For Major ESPN Card

Paige VanZant could be returning at a huge UFC event.

Paige VanZant’s UFC return could be coming soon.

VanZant’s return is reportedly targeted for the UFC’s debut event on ESPN set to go down on January 18, 2019, according to a report from MMA Fighting.

VanZant’s return is in motion to be against Rachael Ostovich. The popular women’s flyweight contender has lost two straight bouts in the Octagon. The most recent was a decision to Jessica-Rose Clark in her 125-pound debut this January. VanZant has been dealing with a broken arm ever since. She has been unable to fight because of the injury and is facing another yearlong layoff.

Before that, Michelle Waterson submitted her in her final strawweight fight in late 2016 over a year prior.

VanZant won her first three UFC fights over Kailn Curran, Felice Herrig, and Alex Chambers to become one of the 115-pound division’s fastest-rising stars. Rose Namajunas halted her rise in a brutal beating. VanZant then gained a huge following on “Dancing With The Stars.” The following boosts her scope of attention to this day as one of the UFC’s most popular female fighters.

Ostovich has gone 1-1 in her UFC stint. She appeared on The Ultimate Fighter 26, losing to Barb Honchak in the quarterfinals. Ostovich submitted Karine Gevorgyan via armbar to win her UFC debut at the show’s finale. She then fought at the TUF 27 Finale this July. Montana De La Rose submitted her rear-naked choke. Ostovich maintains an enthusiastic following herself dating back to her Invicta days.

No bouts have been officially announced for the UFC’s debut on ESPN. The two sports giants signed a monstrous television deal earlier this year.

A potentially anticipated welterweight bout between Robbie Lawler and Stephen Thompson has also been rumored for the card, however.

Sources: Cris Cyborg vs. Amanda Nunes Set For Upcoming PPV

The biggest fight in women’s MMA is reportedly set.

The post Sources: Cris Cyborg vs. Amanda Nunes Set For Upcoming PPV appeared first on LowKickMMA.com.

Cris Cyborg vs. Amanda Nunes is finally set.

The anticipated champ vs. champ superfight will go down at December 29’s UFC 232, multiple sources have confirmed with MMA Fighting after an initial report by ESPN.

Cyborg has run roughshod over the UFC women’s featherweight division ever since winning the belt over Tony Evinger at last July’s UFC 214. She owns wins over former bantamweight champion Holly Holm, Evinger, Yana Kunitskaya, Leslie Smith, and Lina Lansberg in the UFC.

Nunes, meanwhile, has defended her 135-pound title three times. She won the belt by defeating Miesha Tate at 2016’s UFC 200. “The Lioness” then beat Ronda Rousey, Valentina Shevchenko, and Raquel Pennington to rank herself among the best women’s MMA fighters ever.

Cyborg repeatedly called out Nunes for pushing back the date of the fight because of a scheduling conflict. The featherweight champion wanted to fight maybe a bit sooner after being out of action since March.

Nunes has won seven straight fights. She is a former featherweight but has not fought at the weight class since 2011.

The two will face off for Cyborg’s 145-pound belt at UFC 232.

Cyborg posted her reaction on social media due to Nunes insistence on waiting until December:
