On Thursday, UFC Featherweight Champion Conor McGregor appeared as a guest on “The Herd” and reiterated the points he made last weekend about WWE Superstar John Cena during his Las Vegas Q&A event (watch a full video archive here).

While speaking with Nick Wright, who has been filling in for regular show host Colin Cowherd, “The Notorious” one again took aim at the WWE Superstar, using his popular “You Can’t See Me” catchphrase and bright-colored ring attire as ammunition.

“I spoke the truth,” McGregor said when asked if he thinks up his trash-talk ahead of time or simply says what’s on his mind. “He is wearing a luminous orange t-shirt, he is 40 years of age and he’s waving his hand in front of his face talking like nobody can see him, but you can see him right there. He’s a … I mean, I simply go in and speak the truth and that’s it.”

McGregor also spoke about showing up to the UFC 202 press conference in Las Vegas, Nevada on Wednesday before again addressing the crazy bottle-throwing incident that broke out after his opponent for this Saturday’s pay-per-view, Nate Diaz, walked out during the middle of the event.

CM Punk Says Conor McGregor ‘Worked’ WWE Wrestlers, Predicts Diaz vs. McGregor

One of the strangest fights of 2016 thus far has been the battle between Conor McGregor and the WWE roster.

The two parties have been exchanging blows online and through the media for a week now, and while it’s easy to sit back and enjoy the chaos, there’s one guy that seems to be sighing and shaking his head over the beef. That guy is Phil Brooks, better known by his ring name CM Punk. The five-time World Champion in WWE and current UFC fighter gave his thoughts on the dispute…and he had harsh words for his former coworkers.

“The thing that shocked me the most about what Conor said was the number of people who work there that responded to him that should’ve known better,” said Punk in an interview with radio station Hot 97. When asked if the locker room got worked, he responded “I don’t feel like they got worked. They got worked. Come on. Ric Flair? Just stop…you can fight with the idiots on Twitter but from an outside perspective, somebody looking at that can’t tell who the idiot is. Don’t respond.”

McGregor‘s statement on Twitter most certainly got a disproportionately large outcry from the pro wrestling world as dozens of noteworthy stars from past and present chimed in. Of course, that was likely mission accomplished for McGregor, who has made a habit of keeping his name in the news by smack-talking everyone from Jose Aldo to Donald Trump to Jesus Christ

His recent smack talk came with one goal: attract more eyeballs to his upcoming fight at UFC 202. How does Punk see that fight going?

“I’m excited for that fight…I’m gonna go with the numbers on this one,” he said. “As much as I love the fact that McGregor doesn’t back down from a challenge, with a full camp at 170…I think Diaz is going to win it.”

Punk is currently set to step into the Octagon himself at UFC 203 in September opposite Mickey Gall. It will be fun to see how he can fare in the cage…and even more fun to see what McGregor has to say about it after.

Former WWE Champ: It Wouldn’t Be Difficult To Knock Conor McGregor Out

With no major UFC event this weekend, the majority of news in MMA is fully focused on UFC featherweight champion Conor McGregor, and a big part of that is his highly-publicized feud with a bevy of WWE wrestlers after he recently called them ‘p——‘ and threatened to slap them.

The threat was met with a harsh backlash by a number of high-profile WWE stars from Ric Flair to Roman Reigns to Sasha Banks, and another media windfall was stirred up by the controversial master of self-promotion.

McGregor only took that a step further by blasting perennial WWE frontrunner John Cena in yesterday’s UFC 202 media day to promote his upcoming rematch with Nate Diaz at next weekend’s (August 20, 2016) UFC 202 from Las Vegas, and one prominent former WWE champ is not impressed with the words of ‘Notorious.’

Olympic gold medalist wrestler and pro-wrestling star Kurt Angle met up with Sports Illustrated to break down the situation, noting that McGregor doesn’t know what it takes to be a full-time pro-wrestler, and so should therefore keep his mouth shut about the subject:

“Conor is either the most loved or the most hated fighter in UFC, and that’s a credit to him,” said Angle. “But to cross over into another career, into pro wrestling–something you don’t even know–and call WWE wrestlers “p——”? That’s offensive. Don’t talk about someone you don’t know.”

As for how he feels he’d do in a match-up with McGregor, Angle feels it’d be no contest, as his size advantage would lead him to an easy win:

“I’d take him down, then ground and pound him until I knocked him out,” said Angle. “Conor is a polished fighter, but with my size, I would overpower him. It wouldn’t be that difficult for me.

“Coming out of the Olympics, with the way I was training, McGregor wouldn’t have had a chance in hell,” said Angle. “I was also 230 pounds, so that’s not really fair. But pound for pound, he might be the best fighter today.”

With that extremely unlikely to ever happen, however, Angle issued a challenge of a different kind to McGregor, tasking him with taking five pro-wrestling ‘bumps’ in the squared circle:

“I’d like to challenge Conor,” said Angle. “Take five bumps with me in the ring. Just five bumps. When I did that for the first time, I took three and said, ‘F— this, I’m quitting.’ I quit for a couple days and my manager talked me into going back. I know how Dana White and Conor continue to bash the business, but I challenge either of them to get in the ring with me and take five bumps. Once they do, they’ll realize how tough it is–and that’s not even a fraction of what it takes to be a pro wrestler.”

Angle also compared MMA and pro-wrestling, noting that the WWE supposedly focuses on safety more than the UFC does. He knows it’s extremely tough to be a top-flight MMA fighter, but said it’s equally tough to be a pro-wrestler, just in a different way:

“We do rely on safety, unlike UFC fighters,” said Angle. “The pure fact is there is nothing I’ve ever done that is tougher than pro wrestling. It doesn’t make you tough from a fighting standpoint, but it does make you tough from what you have to do every day and how you have to sacrifice. They’re both very tough to do, but they’re tough in different ways.”

With McGregor blasting Cena heavily, Angle said that while he admits the longtime WWE superstar and multi-time world champ might tap out quickly in the Octagon, what he’s accomplished over the past fourteen years is simply amazing and without equal:

“John Cena would tap in twenty seconds in the Octagon, but he is still the biggest badass to ever walk the face of the earth,” said Angle. “This kid has been on top for thirteen years. No one has ever done that. He’s now in his fourteenth year on top.

“I couldn’t do it. Hulk Hogan didn’t do that, Stone Cold had four or five years tops, and it was the same with The Rock before he went to Hollywood. From a toughness standpoint, there is nobody tougher than John Cena. I would love to see Conor McGregor try to be on top of WWE for thirteen years. He wouldn’t make it.”

Conor McGregor Criticizes John Cena, WWE

UFC featherweight champion Conor McGregor continued to rail against the WWE on Friday during a media session ahead of his UFC 202 rematch with Nate Diaz.

The always outspoken Irishman took direct aim at John Cena, the longtime face of WWE, whose character is geared toward a younger audience. Marc Raimondi of MMA Fighting noted McGregor isn’t exactly impressed with the gimmick or the superstar’s physique.

“What’s the main guy? John Cena,” he said. “He’s 40. He’s 40 years of age. He’s walking around in a luminous orange t-shirt and a headband talking about nobody can see him. We can see him right there. He’s a big, fat, 40-year-old failed Mr. Olympia motherf–ker.”

McGregor expanded on his comments to note his disdain for the current group of WWE stars doesn’t extend throughout the entire company. He expressed respect for the McMahon family and also gave a shout out to some of the former top draws, per MMA Fighting:

Like I said, no disrespect to the dons of the game, the McMahons. [WWE CEO Vince McMahon] is a f—ing legend. They wrote Vinny off a few years ago when he dropped from the billions and then he rose back up and now he’s back in the billionaire club. What he’s been able to do with that bunch of dweebs he has over there at the moment has been phenomenal and I respect him for that. And then of course the OGs of the game, The Rock, Stone Cold, they’re cool motherf–kers. Even Ric Flair is a cool motherf–ker.

It’s the second time in a week the 28-year-old UFC fighter has taken direct aim at the wrestling organization. Mike Bohn of Rolling Stone noted he was originally asked about potentially shifting to WWE in the future, similar to Brock Lesnar:

I have thought about [WWE]. For the most part, I think these guys are pussies, to be honest. They’re messed up pussies if you ask me. Fair play to Brock; he got in and fought, but at the end of the day, he was juiced up to the fucking eyeballs. How can I respect that? The other guy [CM Punk] hasn’t fought yet, so I don’t know about him yet.

Those comments generated reaction from around the WWE Universe. Chris Jericho was one of the notable wrestlers to respond on social media:

Of course, the biggest question is whether the recent rants are a work or a shoot. McGregor has become one of the best self-promoters in the world and, while his exact intentions are unclear, you could view the comments as his way of creating some heat should he eventually make the WWE jump.

That’s a conversation for a day in the future, though. His main focus now is getting ready for that rematch with Diaz on Aug. 20. A second consecutive loss would be a major blow to the over-the-top persona he’s built over the past couple years.

Conor McGregor Blasts WWE ‘Dweebs,’ ‘Fat’ John Cena

Reigning UFC featherweight champion Conor McGregor made headlines last week when he took a shot at the professional wrestling world, saying that he’d ‘slap the head off’ of the entire WWE (World Wrestling Entertainment) roster. Unsurprisingly, McGregor received quite a bit of heat from both pro wrestlers as well as wrestling fans in the aftermath of his comments, but the Irishman hasn’t stopped with his verbal assault.

Speaking at a media day yesterday (August 12, 2016) McGregor blasted the WWE roster once again, calling them ‘dweebs’, as well as calling John Cena, one of the sport’s biggest stars, a ‘fat mother**ker’:

“The new age are dweebs,” said McGregor regarding the current WWE talent. “Let’s be honest here. They are absolute dweebs.”

“The main guy, John Cena, he’s 40 years of age and he’s running around in a luminous orange t-shirt and a head band, talking about nobody can see him. We can see him right there. He’s a big fat, 40-year-old failed Mr. Olympia motherf**ker.”

One of the most notable responses McGregor received was from legendary former wrestling champion Ric Flair, who accused McGregor of stealing his gimmick. The “Notorious” one said plain and simple that what he does is the ‘real s*it’, and that he’d happily fight a professional wrestler:

“I don’t know what to say to Ric Flair,” added McGregor. “This ain’t no gimmick. This is the real sh*t. I gotta get in and fight a man for real with no script, with no nothing. So he was talking about bringing some of the wrestler guys over to challenge me, come bring it then. This is the real sh*t over here. If you want to come over we can fight no problem.”

“And then a few of them were talking about the street and all. If you want to come do that, come at me and see what happens.”

McGregor is set to return to action in just a few weeks in a highly-anticipated rematch with Nate Diaz in the main event of August 20’s UFC 202.

Conor McGregor Trashes WWE’s John Cena: “40 Year Old Failed Mr. Olympia Mother F*cker”

conor-mcgregor-john-cena

Those who were hoping the Conor McGregor vs. WWE feud would die already are going to be waiting a bit longer, as “The Notorious” one spoke more about the company and some of its’ talent during his official UFC 202 Media Day Q&A (Watch Here).

The WWE Superstar that McGregor seemed to zero in on the most was John Cena, the top star of the promotion for well over ten years. When he was asked about his recent beef with WWE, McGregor brought up Cena and immediately started firing shots at the popular wrestling star.

“What’s the main guy? John Cena. He’s 40. He’s 40 years of age. He’s walking around in a luminous orange t-shirt and a headband talking about nobody can see him. We can see him right there. He’s a big fat, 40-year-old failed Mr. Olympia mother f*cker.”

When McGregor made his initial remarks towards WWE and some of their talent, referring to them as “messed up p*ssies,” among those who were quick to fire back at the UFC star was WWE Hall Of Famer “The Nature Boy” Ric Flair.

Flair, who took most of his persona and overall act from Buddy Rogers, a legend who preceded him in the pro wrestling business, posted a tweet where he criticized McGregor for stealing his brash, trash-talking rich guy gimmick. In response to “Naitch,” McGregor simply pointed out the fact that what he does for a living is real, so he couldn’t possibly be a gimmick.

“I don’t know what to say to Ric Flair. This ain’t no gimmick. This is the real sh*t. I’ve gotta get in and fight a man for real. With no script, with no nothing. He was talking about bringing some other wrestler guys out to challenge me. Come bring it, then. This is the real shit over here. You know want to come over, we can fight no problem. A few of them are talking about the street and all. If they want to do that, come at me and see what happens.”

As the WWE-related talk continued, McGregor reiterated a point he made during the aforementioned UFC 202 media call regarding the fact that he has respect for some WWE figures, specifically naming the same group of people he did the first time around — WWE Chairman Vince McMahon and along with Hulk Hogan, arguably two of the biggest stars in the history of the company — “Stone Cold” Steve Austin and Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson. This time, strangely enough, he added Ric Flair’s name to the list of WWE stars he does like.

“Like I said, no disrespect to the dons of the game, the McMahons. [WWE CEO Vince McMahon] is a f*cking legend. They wrote Vinny off a few years ago when he dropped from the billions and then he rose back up and now he’s back in the billionaire club. What he’s been able to do with that bunch of dweebs he has over there at the moment has been phenomenal and I respect him for that. And then of course the OGs of the game, The Rock, Stone Cold, they’re cool mother f*ckers. Even Ric Flair is a cool mother f*cker.”

As far as everyone not named McMahon, Austin, Rock or Flair, McGregor tried to elaborate on his issue with them, but didn’t really have anything specific to support his “dweeb” or previous “messed up p*ssies” claims.

“I’m just speaking the truth. That new age of those guys are absolute dweebs. They just seem messed up in the head. I don’t know what it is. When I listen to them talk, when I listen to them carry themselves, they just don”t seem right in the head. That might have been a bit rudeness for me to say, but again: It ain’t trash talk, it’s truth talk.”

In closing, McGregor pointed out his ability to get the top stars from multiple sports and entertainment companies to focus their time and energy on him, something that clearly just helps broaden the awareness level of himself and the sport of MMA in general.

“I’ve got them all wrapped up on my little finger. The boxing game, the MMA game. Now I’ve got those wrestling dweebs in here as well. I’ve got the whole sh*t locked up.”
