Fight day cancellations stink, don’t they?

The co-main event for UFC Vegas 24 is kaput.

As relayed by the UFC broadcast team on ESPN+, lightweight Drakkar Klose suffered an undisclosed injury and his fight with Jeremy Stephens has been scratched. You just knew that we were due for another day-of cancellation after going a couple of shows without one, and unfortunately it’s one of the more anticipated bouts on the card.

Klose hadn’t fought since a dramatic KO loss to Beneil Dariush last year at UFC 248, whereas Stephens was searching for his first victory since 2018. Stephens shoved Klose at the weigh-ins on Friday but that definitely wasn’t an injurious push.

Update: I was wrong. It was an injurious push.

The UFC intends to rebook this fight ASAP, ideally sans shove.

Andrei Arlovski vs. Chase Sherman is the new co-main event, while Tracy Cortez vs. Justine Kish gets bumped from the preliminary card to the main card. There are only 10 fights left on the docket compared to the 13 at the start of the week, and the first fight won’t begin until 7:30 PM ET/4:30 PM PT.

LowKick MMA will be bringing you UFC Vegas 24: Whittaker vs. Gastelum results throughout the afternoon (Sat. 10th. April 2021) from the UFC Apex facility in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Taking main event honours at the UFC Apex facility event, former middleweight champion, Robert Whittaker meets with the #8 ranked contender, Kelvin Gastelum in a short-notice, rescheduled headlining matchup.

Initially scheduled to headline UFC 234 back in February of 2019, then-middleweight titleholder, Whittaker was forced to remove himself from proceedings on the day of the event, requiring emergency surgery after he suffered a hernia and a twisted and collapsed bowel.

Riding a two-fight winning spree, Whittaker has taken a pair of unanimous decision successes against former welterweight title challenger, Darren Till in July last, and October UFC 254 judging win over Jared Cannonier.

Replacing most recent title challenger, Paulo Costa on a month’s notice, Gastelum enters the tie off the back of a unanimous decision success against Ian Heinisch at UFC 258 back in February — where he snapped his three-fight losing skid.

In the co-main event, renowned puncher, Jeremy Stephens returns to the lightweight limit for the first time since May of 2013, as he tackles Drakkar Klose.

Suffering his second consecutive defeat last May at UFC 249 in Jacksonville, Florida, Stephens dropped a second-round knockout defeat to Calvin Kattar.

Returning to the Octagon for the first time since UFC 248 last March, Klose seen his three-fight winning spree halted by Beneil Dariush, suffering a second-round knockout loss in a heated exchange.

We’ve purchased the FITE.tv pay-per-view (PPV) and with it our dynamic tag team duo, Matt Ryan and Harry Terjanian, will deliver the best possible “radio style” play-by-play broadcast imaginable throughout the “Jake Paul vs. Ben Askren”-led main card, starting at 8:45 p.m. ET in the video player below!

Tonight, Ben Askren the man who went from the most dominant welterweight to never fight in the UFC to the dude who got clowned in front of Lemmy and everybody when Jorge “Bathrobe” Masvidal kneed his head into another voting district, takes on Jake Paul.

The Vine star, turned Disney star, turned YouTube and Digital Marketing succubus, is not that great of a human being. In the same way that Tucker Carlson, Joel Osteen, and other cult of personality figures have curated this image and identity to market specifically to a lucrative demographic, Paul has done that with young kids via his YouTube channel. Writing terrible rap songs, a fake marriage to fellow carny Tana Mongeau (who ran a very FYRE style convention when people still went to things), that whole thing with the Tik Tok influencer that came out last week, the whole documentary series about whether or not he is a sociopath and copping to having EARLY STAGES OF CTE is all kinda just small doses of who Jake Paul is.

All that aside, who doesn’t love freak fights, the Black Keys, and carny nonsense? Which is all a part of this event tonight that Matt Ryan will be calling from the studio. We hope you join him on our Combat Culture YouTube Live Stream because this could go really well or really bad… i.e.: Frank Mir is boxing… BOXING.

Join us live tonight and please prepare yourself for whatever this is.

The Bellator welterweight title will be at stake on June 11th.

After a failed attempt to become a double champion, Bellator welterweight champion Douglas Lima will return to his familiar weight class in June.

The Brazilian striker is set to face undefeated Ukrainian Yaroslav Amosov in the main event of Bellator 260 on June 11th at the Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Connecticut. It’ll be Lima’s first title defense since 2019 and Amosov’s first title fight.

Lima (32-8) challenged Gegard Mousasi for the vacant middleweight title last year, losing a rather lackluster unanimous decision in the Bellator 250 main event. He has won the welterweight belt three times, most recently avenging a prior title defeat to Rory MacDonald by winning the rematch in the Grand Prix final. Lima’s highlight-reel moments include a leg kick demolition of Rick Hawn, two finishes of Andrey Koreshkov, and a brutal KO of Michael Page.

Amosov (25-0) is coming off a split decision win over Logan Storley, who was also unbeaten at the time of their bout. The 27-year-old began his Bellator career with consecutive decisions over Gerald Harris and Erick Silva before submitting David Rickels. As part of his three-fight 2020 slate, Amosov got the better of former NCAA wrestling standout Ed Ruth by decision.

Additionally, the promotion announced Tywan Claxton vs. Justin Gonzales and Nick Newell vs. Bobby King as preliminary card fights. The main card, as is the case for all Bellator shows for the foreseeable future, will be televised on Showtime.

CM Punk Endorses Ben Askren’s Striking Ahead Of Jake Paul Fight

CM Punk Ben Askren

Many fighters in the MMA community have questioned Ben Askren’s stand-up heading into Saturday night’s boxing match with YouTuber turned Boxer Jake Paul. It appears that CM Punk is not one of them.

During a recent interview with TMZ Sports, Punk endorsed his Roufusport teammate heading into the highly-anticipated fight in Atlanta.

“It’s easy to sit on your couch and say that Ben isn’t a striker,” Punk said. “He’s competed at a very high level in two different sports, and mindset is a big thing. Ben is going to approach it to the best of his natural ability to win the fight.”

Askren and Paul are all set to compete in a Boxing main event on Saturday night hosted by Triller Fight Club. Askren is making his professional boxing debut, while Paul is undefeated with a 2-0 record over retired basketball player Nate Robinson and fellow YouTuber AnEsonGib.

While Askren has never been known to be an accomplished striker, he has competed with some of the most feared men in the business. He has wins during his time in Bellator over Douglas Lima and Andrey Koreshkov, and beat UFC veteran Robbie Lawler by submission after surviving an early ground-and-pound barrage.

Punk’s recent endorsement of Askren is in the minority, as many in the MMA community; including Jorge Masvidal and Mike Perry, have questioned Askren’s chances in a boxing ring. Askren has worked with legendary boxing trainer Freddie Roach leading up to the fight with Paul.

“I know a lot of people are counting him out, but no one should be surprised if he wins.” Punk said.

It was also reported that both fighters will make a minimum of $500,000 for their end of the fight purse. There’s quite a bit of bad blood between the two, especially after Paul recently made controversial remarks that he is already showing signs of CTE, comments in which he quickly retracted.

All eyes will be on Atlanta on Saturday night as Paul and Askren collide in one of the most anticipated boxing matches in recent years.

What do you think about CM Punk’s comments in support of Ben Askren? What are your predictions for the fight?
