Th mixed martial arts (MMA) universe is currently abuzz with the bizarre rumors of Conor McGregor’s alleged bar fight in his native Dublin, Ireland, this past Sunday.

Dana White said he didn’t believe the hype while acknowledging McGregor may never fight again to reporters yesterday, but a renowned Irish crime reporter believes McGregor’s life may be in ‘very serious danger.’

On the heels of that concerning bit of information, a photo of the man who McGregor was alleged to have punched, rumored Irish cartel member Graham ‘The Wig’ Whelan, at The Black Forge in Dublin’s Crumlin suburb has surfaced online. Check it out:

Although no complaints nor reports have been filed by Irish police concerning the alleged assault at this point, rumors are swirling that McGregor either punched Whelan, a friend of his, or even his elderly father.

Newstalk’s Paul Williams said that the men he supposedly assaulted may be connected to one of the most ruthless crime families in all of Ireland, hence the reason for his life being in danger.

It’s been a rough-and-tumble month for McGregor in his native land, and by no small fault of his own. With the MMA world awaiting his first-ever UFC title defense, will the sport’s biggest star be able to bounce back from this concerning downward spiral, or will he join Jon Jones as yet another cautionary tale of MMA superstardom?

Murilo Santana and Craig Jones rematch on Dec 9

KASAI Grappling continues to make waves in the competitive grappling industry and that trend continued leading up to their event on December 9. This week, the promotion announced a number of super fights to go along with the already announced attractions.

The biggest news was the rematch set between Craig Jones and Murilo Santana. Jones and Santana met at ADCC this past September, and Jones pulled out an exciting victory via triangle. The Australian black belt shocked many onlookers when he submitted both Leandro Lo and Santana before falling to Keenan Cornelius in the semifinals. Now, he’s become one of the hottest names to watch in the sport as he’s branched out to other promotions such as Submission Underground and the Eddie Bravo Invitational.

Santana is a well-known veteran of the industry and a multiple-time champion across many organizations. The Mario Yamasaki black belt has competed against many of the top names in grappling and his resume boasts wins against the likes of Marcel Goncalves, Lucas Barbosa, Matheus Diniz and others.

The main event of the day features a rematch between two men who walked out of ADCC with gold medals: Yuri Simoes and Gordon Ryan. Ryan earned gold in the 88 kilograms division while Simoes earned gold in the 99 kilograms division – earning his second straight gold medal at the event. These two recently competed against each other at EBI 6 last year where Ryan came out victorious.

The action doesn’t stop there as an eight-man lightweight tournament is also planned to crown the first KASAI Pro lightweight tournament. Renato Canuto, Enrico Cocco, ‘Junny’ Ocascio, AJ Agazarm, Celso Vinicius, Gianni Grippo, Mansher Khera and Garry Tonon round out the field. This group is expecting to bring a lot of action to be the first man to hold the crown in the weight class.

Brown belts, Cameron Florczak and Alvaro Tautiva are also scheduled to face one another. Another super fight between Ray Sherwood and Brian Richards was also announced for the event. Mike Davila will face Nick Ronan. Jared Weiner competes against Mike Medrano. Lincoln Pereira battles Leonardo Delgado. Jeson Rosario is scheduled to compete against Sean Yadimarco. Jobany Rosario versus Rickson Pimentel rounds out the undercard.

KASAI Pro is set for December 9 from the Greenpoint Terminal Warehouse in Brooklyn, New York. Matches will be broadcast live on FloGrappling.

Conor McGregor allegedly got into a bar fight at a pub in the Crumlin suburb area of his native Dublin, Ireland, last Sunday night, but the reports remained just rumors without an official complaint filed by local police.

UFC President Dana White downplayed the rumors during a session with reporters yesterday, noting that he believed the reports to be false because a much bigger media circus would have unfolded if they were indeed true.

However, a renowned crime reporter in Ireland named Paul Williams believes that McGregor’s situation in his home county is a lot more serious than White thinks. Speaking on Newstalk Breakfast (via Balls.ie), Williams, who’s now a co-host of the show, said that based on his past criminal experience, McGregor is in serious danger and may even be approached by the Gardai (Irish police) with information his life may be in danger:

“I have to say about this, and I’m wearing my old, veteran crime reporter hat. Conor McGregor is in a very dangerous place at the moment. He has come into conflict through probably no fault of his own, with a group of very, very dangerous people who are tied up with the Kinahans. These people do not care who Conor McGregor is, what he stands for, how powerful he is, they will drag him down into the cesspit.

“I would say, in the next 48 hours, if he still in the country – and I understand that he may have left the country – but if he is still in the country, I understand from my sources that the Garda will be approaching him to give him a GIM form, which is a Garda Information Message, to tell him that there may be threats to his safety. This is a huge story, and imagine what it would do to our reputation if this national sporting icon is attacked by a bunch of gangsters.”

Per Haljestam for USA TODAY Sports

Williams continued to elaborate on the possible state of affairs during the second hour of the show as well, reiterating that McGregor has reportedly become mixed up with some very dangerous folks, potentially accidentally:

“I just want to make a comment about this. Conor McGregor is potentially in very, very serious danger, I hear that from my sources and from looking at the lay of the land. He has ended up crossing swords- accidentally or however –  with some very, very heavy people, or some people who are related to some very, very heavy people who could pose a very serious threat to his safety, and potentially his life. And I don’t say that lightly.

“And these people, you have to remember – as I keep saying – they don’t care, they don’t have parameters, they don’t have boundaries, they don’t discriminate between whether you’re an international sporting icon or just a man on the street. They shoot you, they injure you, they do whatever they want to do.

“I think it’s extraordinary. And I think in the next 24-48 hours, I believe that An Garda Síochána will be approaching Conor McGregor and saying to him, ‘By the way, we just want to officially inform you that potentially your safety is at risk’.

“I think it’s an extraordinary state of affairs. And watch this space.”

Two top-ranked middleweights will reportedly square off in the main event of January 27’s UFC on FOX 27.

According to ESPN’s Brett Okamoto, No. 7-ranked Derek Brunson told him he had signed a bout agreement to fight No. 5-ranked Ronaldo ‘Jacare’ Souza in the headlining bout of the event from Charlotte, N.C.’s Spectrum Center.

The bout has not been officially announced by the UFC, but Brunson told ESPN he had signed his agreement and expected Souza to do the same very soon:

“I signed my contract and I’m pretty sure Jacare signed his contract. I expect the UFC to announce it soon.”

Brunson heads into the bout on a two-fight win streak, his most recent a dominant first-round knockout over former light heavyweight champion in the main event of October 28’s UFC Sao Paulo. His last loss came by controversial decision to longtime former middleweight champion Anderon Silva at February’s UFC 208.

He’ll look to score his biggest-ever win against the feared Jacare in a rematch of their first fight in Strikeforce, which Souza won with a thunderous left hook. The 37-year-old Brazilian jiu-jitsu legend had been on the cusp of a UFC title shot, but a TKO loss to current interim champion Robert Whittaker in his last bout this April derailed those plans for the time being.

Brunson discussed his prior loss to Souza, believing he was a young fighter who got overaggressive against a former champion and has learned over the years:

“I was a young, talented prospect back then,. Strikeforce let me take a fight on short notice outside the promotion and I got robbed on a split decision against Kendall Grove. I easily won that fight. So, I went from 9-0 to getting robbed and suffering my first loss.

“I get back to Strikeforce and they put me right with Jacare. I was still pissed about the loss and said, ‘I’m about to go torch this former champion.’ I went out super aggressive and he caught me. The punch he threw, he ducked his head and closed his eyes. I came running in and he caught me on the chin.

“I had to deal with that for years. I was pissed off about it for a long time.”

UFC President Dana White also recently revealed the fight was set during his lengthy scrum with reporters yesterday but did not give an exact date for the match-up.
