Headlined by yet another brutal first-round knockout by Anthony “Rumble” Johnson, the nationally televised event also shed light on the expanding heavyweight title picture and the inexperience of one of the sports quickest rising prospects.

The four-fight main card didn’t offer fans too much to talk about compared to other high-profile events, but the action was memorable to say at least. Especially when you consider the divisional implications and glaring answers that each bout possessed.

Here are five key takeaways from UFC on FOX 18 as the winners and losers dig deep into 2016.

Anthony Johnson is the talk of the town following UFC on FOX 18. Johnson dominated Bader in their main event fight and knocked out Bader. Now Johnson is the #1 contender for the light heavyweight title. He will fight the winner of Daniel Cormier – Jon Jones whenever that happens this year.

Following the fight, Johnson spoke about the win and if he is willing to take another fight while waiting for Cormier and Jones to fight.

“Yeah (I would take another fight) – that’s a paycheck. “I just want to wait until Jon and ‘DC’ fight then I’ll think about what’s next. Because in this game they can tell you that you have the next title shot and three or four months later, six months later, you’re not fighting for a title.”

Johnson is ready to fight the winner of Cormier – Jones and is preparing himself to step in for one of the fighters if they cannot compete.

“That’s the biggest fight of my life,” Johnson said at the post-fight conference. “They want to make me wait that long? I definitely would do it. It gives me plenty of time for me to get ready for whoever. “If somebody gets hurt and they need a replacement I’ll definitely jump in if I’m healthy and able to fight.”

Johnson was scheduled to fight Jones at UFC 187, but those plans were scrapped when Jones was stripped of the belt and suspended from the UFC indefinitely in connection with a hit-and-run incident that he was involved in on April 28th. The UFC then booked Johnson vs. Cormier at UFC 187, which saw Cormier beat Johnson.

Johnson feels that he will fight Jones one day.

“Jon and I will fight one day,” Johnson said. “We have mutual respect for each other. We’ve never talked trash about each other, every time we see each other we show each other love. Especially with the media and everything hyping up a fight between him and I. I was supposed to be the guy to knock him out and beat him and all that other stuff. “I think we definitely want to challenge each other and see what we’re made of. We’re just two guys, two alpha-males like that that are just competitive.”

The UFC is expected to announce a date for the Cormier – Jones fight soon.

Top-ranked UFC lightweight was looking to prove he truly deserved a title shot by earning his sixth straight win over Anthony ‘Rumble’ Johnson in the main event of tonight’s (Saturday, January 30, 2015) UFC on FOX 18 from the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey, but as ‘Darth’ found out, there’s power, and then there’s ‘Rumble’ power.

After his UFC 187 loss to current champion Daniel Cormier, Bader and his Power MMA head coach Aaron Simpson believed that Johnson was susceptible to wrestling and a quitter. They tested that theory early on in the bout, but it turned out to work against them in destructive fashion.

Thanks in no small part to heavyweight grappling coach Neil Melanson, ‘Rumble’ easily sprawled Bader’s takedown to turn the tables in the mount, flattening his opponent out and finishing ‘Darth’ with a vicious slew of heavy punches to earn the knockout victory at 1:26 of the first round. Tonight’s (Saturday, January 30, 2015) UFC on FOX 18 from the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey, delivered a hard-hitting mix of solid fights and finishes, and much of that recognition came at the top.

Light heavyweight destroyer Anthony ‘Rumble’ Johnson made short work of the previously surging Ryan Bader in less than a minute-and-a-half, staving off an early takedown to demolish ‘Darth’ with some shockingly powerful knockout shots. Johnson not surprisingly took home the event’s first $50,000 ‘Performance of the Night’ bonus for the impressive win.

In the co-main event, heavyweight Ben Rothwell got a historic victory by becoming the first man to ever make Josh Barnett tap out due to a submission hold when he submitted ‘The Warmaster’ with his patented gogo choke in the second round, earning the second ‘Performance of the Night’ in the process.

‘Fight of the Night’ went to the bantamweight scrap between Jersey hometown favorite Jimmie Rivera and veteran Iuri Alcantara, which Rivera edged by unanimous decision.
