Chael Sonnen Calls Floyd Mayweather a Liar

Retired UFC veteran Chael Sonnen has made waves by challenging the widely publicized claims about Floyd Mayweather’s fight earnings, including the staggering payouts reported for his 2017 bout against Conor McGregor.

Chael Sonnen Calls Floyd Mayweather a Liar

Chael Sonnen, known for his ability to stir the pot, labeled Floyd Mayweather’s reported figures as exaggerated and untrue.

“So, I’m just sharing one of the great lies in sport that got told, repeated, and repeated again on ESPN and Sports Illustrated,” Sonnen said in a recent interview. “One of the great lies was the alleged payouts of Floyd Mayweather—none of which were true. That includes the fight with Conor McGregor, where they both supposedly got $125 million. That’s not true.”

Floyd Mayweather COnor Mcgregor

Floyd Mayweather is often referred to as “Money” for his incredible financial success. He is widely recognized as one of the most lucrative athletes in history. Over the course of his undefeated boxing career, he reportedly earned more than $1.1 billion, with his two highest-profile fights, against Manny Pacquiao in 2015 and McGregor in 2017, touted as his most profitable. Mayweather reportedly earned approximately $250 million for the Pacquiao fight and $300 million for the McGregor showdown.

However, Chael Sonnen’s comments suggest that those figures may be inflated. At the same time, Sonnen did not provide evidence to substantiate his claims. His assertion is particularly bold given Mayweather’s status as an iconic figure in boxing, with a reputation built not just on his impeccable 50-0 record but also on his ability to generate unparalleled revenue from pay-per-view sales and ticket gates. Mayweather has consistently defended his earning claims, portraying himself as a financial mastermind who capitalized on his drawing power and savvy promotional tactics.

As for Sonnen, the former UFC contender has never shied away from voicing controversial opinions. Though he retired from professional fighting in 2019, Sonnen remains a prominent figure in the MMA community as a pundit and podcast host. Mayweather has yet to respond to Sonnen’s claims, but given his history of addressing criticisms, it wouldn’t be surprising if he weighs in soon. Whether Sonnen’s remarks hold weight or are simply another example of his trademark provocations, they have reignited discussions about the accuracy of reported fighter pay and the myths that often surround combat sports legends.

Rampage Jackson vs. Rashad Evans

It’s official: one of MMA’s most iconic rivalries is making a comeback, but this time, it’s in the boxing ring. Quinton Rampage Jackson and ‘Suga’ Rashad Evans, two UFC legends and former light heavyweight champions, are set to face off later this year in Albuquerque, New Mexico. The announcement is confirmed for 2025.

Rampage Jackson vs. Rashad Evans

Rampage and Rashad’s bad blood dates back more than a decade, culminating in their clash at UFC 114 on May 29, 2010. The buildup to that fight was legendary, marked by fiery trash talk and an explosive coaching rivalry on The Ultimate Fighter. Evans emerged victorious in the octagon that night, outwrestling and outsmarting Rampage to secure a unanimous decision.

Now, 15 years later, these two are reigniting their feud in a new arena. Both fighters have exchanged words on social media, with Rampage promising a reinvention as “Rampage 2.0” and hinting that this fight is personal. Rampage Jackson said:

“It’s time to settle this once and for all,” Jackson wrote. “Rashad got me last time, but that was then—this is NOW.”

Both men have resumes that speak for themselves. Rashad Evans is a former UFC Light Heavyweight Champion and Hall of Famer who is widely regarded as one of the best fighters of his era. Known for his explosive wrestling and sharp hands. Evans boasts wins over legends like Chuck Liddell, Forrest Griffin, and Tito Ortiz. Since retiring from MMA in 2018, Evans has occasionally teased comebacks, but this fight marks his official return to competition.

Rampage Jackson is an MMA pioneer. He made his name with highlight-reel slams and knockouts during his time in Pride FC and the UFC. His 2007 knockout of Chuck Liddell to claim the UFC Light Heavyweight Title remains one of the most iconic moments in the sport’s history. Rampage’s charisma has also made him a crossover star, with acting roles in projects like The A-Team.

This fight will mark the first time either fighter steps into a boxing ring professionally, adding another layer to this match. Without the wrestling or ground game to rely on, the matchup will showcase their striking skills in their purest form.

The fight will take place in Albuquerque, New Mexico. While the exact date and venue are still under wraps, we know it will take place in 2025.

"What Did I Get Myself Into?" Claressa Shields Opens Up About Brutal Training with Holly Holm

Claressa Shields is a force in boxing and a rising star in MMA but found herself in deep waters against Holly Holm, a former UFC champion. ‘GWOAT’ Shields recently opened up about an intense training experience with one of the most accomplished figures in combat sports, Holly Holm.

Claressa Shields Training with Holly Holm

Known for her legendary career in both boxing and MMA, Holm put Shields to the test in a brutal training session that left the undefeated champion questioning what she had gotten herself into.

In a recent interview, Shields recalled a moment during her MMA training camp, where she found herself face-to-face with the seasoned veteran, Holly Holm. “I’m in a training camp, getting ready for the fight, right? And they got me there with Holly Holm, and they’re like, first of all, Holly is an OG. She’s an OG. Holly Holm and Jonny Bones—Holly Holm is an OG,” Shields began, highlighting Holm’s experience and status in the fighting world.

The session was designed as a “big boxing day,” but with a twist. Both fighters wore large gloves, allowing for punches while still incorporating takedowns. However, not all fighters were willing to stand and trade blows. “Some people are like, ‘Look, I’m not good at standing up, so I’m gonna take you down,’” Shields explained.

As Claressa Shields threw punches at Holly Holm, she was taken aback when the MMA veteran retaliated with a kick that caused a minor injury. “I’m talking about, I’m giving Holly the hands—the big rights, boom boom boom. I’m—man, she threw a kick. Man, her toenail cut my nose and nicked me. I said, ‘Oh, [expletive], it’s real!’”

The situation escalated quickly as Holly Holm took Claressa Shields to the ground, forcing the boxing champion into a position she was unfamiliar with. Shields admitted, “Then I get mad, I start charging her, hitting her—hitting her—boom, boom. She took me down to the ground, and I couldn’t get up. I couldn’t get up. The way she was putting her head inside my chin and my neck, the way she was putting her elbow on me—I’m like, ‘What the hell am I supposed to do down here?’”

With her training team urging her to work on the techniques she had been taught, Claressa Shields found herself struggling to escape. “Man, I said, ‘This is for real.’ I said, ‘What did I get myself into?’”

Shields’ journey into MMA has been marked by impressive achievements. She made a successful debut in 2021 with the PFL and won her first fight by TKO in the third round. In boxing, Shields holds an undefeated record of and she made history as the first boxer to hold undisputed titles in multiple weight classes simultaneously in the four-belt era.

Holly Holm is a former world champion boxer and UFC icon has also made her mark in both sports. Holm retired from boxing with an impressive record and transitioned to MMA, where she famously defeated Ronda Rousey to become the UFC Women’s Bantamweight Champion in 2015. Additionally, she holds a spot in the Boxing Hall of Fame.

Claressa Shields will next look to defend her title against Danielle Perkins on February 2, and will likely compete in MMA later this year as well. Holly Holm is still an active fighter and a staple of the UFC.
