It’s the beginning of August, which only means one thing. We are just a few weeks away from the biggest fight of the year.

That bout will be a boxing match between boxing legend Floyd Mayweather and UFC lightweight champion Conor McGregor. The fight is set to go down on August 26th in Las Vegas, Nevada. It’s pretty obvious that Mayweather is the prohibitive favorite heading into the bout, but McGregor isn’t short of his own supporters. One of his supporters is former UFC heavyweight fighter turned broadcaster, Brendan Schaub.

If you recall, Schaub was part of the commentary team for parts of the MayMac World Tour of press conferences last month. He has already come out and placed a $100,000 bet with HBO boxing analyst Max Kellerman that McGregor will win at least one round against the all-time boxing great.

If you think Schaub is stopping there, then you would be wrong as the former fighter has increased his bet because he is confident that McGregor is being underestimated. He stated in a recent interview with The Kicker (transcript courtesy of MMA Fighting) that not only would McGregor win a round or two, but that he would bet a “d*ck pic” McGregor makes it the full 12 rounds.

“[McGregor]’s gonna land multiple punches. I guarantee it. So this isn’t like a Skip Bayless take, I’m just trying to honeyd*ck people – oh, give me views. I know what I’m talking about. I boxed for 15 years, fought professionally for 10 years in mixed martial arts. I know boxing, I know mixed martial arts, and I know when I got in there with professional boxers, it took them about a round to feel me out and the way I do stand up is traditional. It’s boxing. I don’t have this weird, awkward style. Conor does.

“With Conor, it’s a matter of time on how long does it take Floyd Mayweather to get used to this weird, awkward style. So Mayweather has to download McGregor’s movement, everything that he’s never seen before. He’s gonna do it, it’s just gonna be how long? These old boxing heads, they know boxing, and they hope Floyd doesn’t lose so they trash mixed martial arts, but they don’t actually know what they’re talking about.

“[McGregor will win] at least one [round]. I wouldn’t be surprised if he wins two to three [rounds] early on. . . I will send you guys a dick pic if it doesn’t go all 12 rounds. . . I immediately regret saying that [laughs]. It’s gonna be a good pic though. I’m gonna hire glamor shots.”

As of this writing, the betting odds for the upcoming boxing match currently favors Mayweather at -230. Despite the odds, Schaub remains confident that if anyone is going to get knocked out, it won’t be McGregor.

“If anyone’s gonna gets knocked out it’s Floyd. I promise you Conor will not get knocked out. If anyone gets finished that night, it’s Floyd.”

The hype train for August 26’s anticipated Conor MCGregor vs. Floyd Mayweather boxing match is understandably in full swing, and with that comes the sure-to-be-endless speculation and predictions from combat sports media members far and wide.

One such prediction came from longtime ESPN boxing analyst and TV show host Max Kellerman, who not surprisingly stated, as many have, that McGregor has no chance whatsoever during a recent edition of ESPN’s ‘First Take’:

“Let me tell you what’s going to happen. Conor McGregor will not land a single punch against Floyd Mayweather. Not one punch.”

While cGregor has obviously never competed in a professional boxing match, hasn’t looked the best in sparring, and is facing one of the best of all-time, it’s a bold prognostication to say he won’t land a single strike on the aging Mayweather. Former UFC heavyweight and “Fighter and The Kid” podcast co-host Brendan Schaub took umbrage to the statement, posting to his Instagram that he would bet Kellerman $100,000 that not only will McGregor land punches, but will also win multiple rounds versus “Money”:

It seems like a bold assessment from both sides, something that is no surprise considering Kellerman is a longtime boxing media member and Schaub is obviously biased towards the UFC and MMA.

The actual outcome is more likely to be in the middle of the two, if we’re to believe the early odds for the historic fight. McGregor will most likely a few shots early but get outlasted by the defensive counter-striking style of Mayweather, especially in the later rounds with both fighters wearing much bigger 10-ounce gloves.

This is still a fight, however, and anything can happen. Are you leaning towards believing Kellerman or Schaub more?

After UFC 207, the sad truth is we may never see Ronda Rousey in active competition again. All the mockery and joking about her loss to Amanda Nunes aside, that 48 seconds of destruction was difficult to watch. Again cropping up in the discussion about Rousey’s future is her coach, Edmond Tarverdyan. Kenny Florian was one of many analysts who recently came out with his opinion on coach Edmond. ‘Ken-Flo’ believes Tarverdyan is simply not qualified enough to teach high level MMA.

When discussing the matter during the latest episode of ‘Fighter & The Kid,’ Brendan Schaub offered a deeper insight. Explaining the intricacies of a relationship between coach and fighter, Schaub discusses his former girlfriend’s bond with Tarverdyan.

h-tftk-1-what[1]

“I think that’s it, I don’t know why she would come back. 411 days off in MMA is like taking four years off in football. That’s how fast the sport is growing. If I came back now I’d look like Jack Dempsey. Like ‘oh we aren’t wearing helmets now, we aren’t doing that CTE stuff?”

“The sport evolves so fast. I think the 411 days off were a mistake, so if she takes more time off, what then? She fights an even more seasoned Amanda Nunes, what happens then? People are saying she should just change camps, it doesn’t work like that. Let’s say she goes and trains at Jacksons, what happens if she doesn’t gel with the coaches?”

“Say she’s used to being the only top dog in the gym, and she goes to Jacksons and it’s full of killers. Maybe coach Mike Winklejohn doesn’t understand how to coach her, or her ego is too big to learn from them. That has happened before. What would have been the better gameplan, she should have stayed on the outside and picked her shots?”

“She’s never ever done that in her career, and you expect her to do that while she’s shooting all these movies and sh*t? It doesn’t work like that. If that’s not your cup of tea, it’s not going to help you. There’s so many factors, it’s such an intimate relationship between a coach and a fighter. It’s like that scene from the avatar, when they plug their hair in to the horse. If you don’t gel, it’s not going to work. That’s why she’s so loyal to Edmond even though he’s so bad. And he really is terrible.”

“He has no business being her coach. The other guys and women he’s coaching are terrible. You look at how he ruined Travis Browne’s career. Even though he beat me, he’s a terrible fighter now, even though he did beat me. He had more talent than anyone who came through that gym, including Ronda. His career is going down the drain. His footwork is just gone, and he’s going to get cut if he loses to Derrick Lewis, especially with how much they pay him.”

Punching, kicking and choking people for a living doesn’t necessarily sound like the ideal career path to be a success on the dating scene, but there’s plenty of evidence out there to suggest that MMA fighters are able to punch above their weight in that regard.

Cauliflower ears or not, that ‘bad boy/girl’ persona and ‘alpha male/female’ aura together with the athleticism, drive, discipline and self-confidence it takes to put it all on the line as a professional fighter attract potential partners to these modern-day gladiators like a moth to a flame.

Even other celebrities are not immune to this phenomenon, and as you’ll see in this article, over the years there have been a number of high-profile fighters who have dated famous singers, actresses and models.
