Cringe-worthy Interview of the Day: CBS Interviews Arianny Celeste

Have you ever felt you were destined to be far more than just a model? More than just a pretty face gracing the covers of magazines?

Well Arianny Celeste did!

That’s why a local CBS affiliate in Las Vegas interviewed the ring card girl (which is like 20,000 steps above “model” on the hierarchy). Perhaps the worst/best part of the interview is the first 30-40 seconds where the host gives Arianny the most laughable, over-the-top introduction of all time. Here’s a transcript:

Well Arianny Celeste did!

That’s why a local CBS affiliate in Las Vegas interviewed the ring card girl (which is like 20,000 steps above “model” on the convetionally attractive female hierarchy). Perhaps the worst/best part of the interview is the first 30-40 seconds where the host gives Arianny the most laughable, over-the-top introduction of all time. Here’s a transcript:

In the entertainment industry, there are plenty of women vying to be the next hottest model, but Arianny Celeste is different. She knew she was destined to be far more than just a model and she was determined to get there. She’s got the focus and motivation that is unparalleled. For Arianny, there are no limits when it comes to reaching her goals and aspirations. She strives to reach her dreams without paying any attention to the negativity. The odds might say she’s just another pretty face gracing the covers of magazines, but Arianny will prove to you that she is far more than just that. She was made to knock down barriers and create opportunities. She’s a perfect example of living life without limitations, that you can do anything you put your mind to. From UFC, to TV hosting, designing, to clothing and swimwear lines, Arianny Celeste has a very busy schedule and she’s showing no signs of slowing down. Arianny Celeste is a woman who leads by example who truly believes in herself and inspires so many others to do the same.

Um…we’re talking about the same Arianny Celeste that carries a card around the outside of an Octagon, right? Like seriously, what the fuck?

Did you know Arianny Celeste is also the Holy Roman Emperor? She discovered the Higgs boson particle, too!

So yeah, the rest of the interview isn’t quite this ridiculous but it’s pretty bad. Definitely watch the intro and then watch whatever you want from the rest of it (it’s 13 minutes long so don’t watch the whole thing, just skip around).

Tito Ortiz Guests on Friday Night’s Episode of CSI: NY With an Obviously Cracked Skull

(“I’d like to speak with my lawyer, Seraldo Babalu.”)

If Tito Ortiz is seriously thinking of acting full time after he finishes up his fight career in July, he may want to reconsider, otherwise his kids could go hungry.

Tito’s latest thespian performance can be seen tomorrow night when he appears on CSI: NY as MMA fighter Derek Petrov —  a suspect in the murder of his last opponent, who pulled a Paul Daley on him after the referee seemingly stopped the fight. As you will see in the clip below, Tito must have been suffering from a cracked skull on the set because nobody is buying his performance, which is sad since he’s basically playing himself with a different name.

Here’s how the release described the episode:

“Clean Sweep” — A charred body turns into a hot mess for the CSIs when it appears a cage fighter has been murdered by his stalker, on “CSI: NY,” Friday, Jan. 6 (9:00-10:00 PM, ET/PT) on the CBS Television Network.

Viacom’s Purchase of Bellator Fallout: Four Overlooked Things That Will Likely Happen Because of the Deal

(Well, at least *some* of the inevitable changes will be good.)

When it was announced today that media giant Viacom had purchased Bellator Fighting Championships, most of us probably overlooked the bigger picture of what the deal means to the landscape of MMA. At a glance, better financial backing and being on a more popular channel like Spike means better fights and bigger paychecks for fighters, but behind the scenes the scope of the deal is likely much bigger than we know and the aftershocks will be felt for some time.

Check out four of the biggest likelihoods that will come out of the purchase after the jump.

Strikeforce and Showtime part ways:

Before all of you business experts begin furiously typing that Showtime isn’t technically affiliated with Viacom, keep in mind that a majority of the specialty channel is still owned by media mogul Sumner Redstone, whose family also owns CBS and he still remains on the board of directors. As such, it’s unlikely that one of the networks under the Redstone umbrella would give a leg up to the competition, meaning that Strikeforce is likely dust in the wind by the end of the year.

MMA on CBS again:

There’s a very good chance that CBS was using Chuck Liddell’s appearance on Hawaii Five-O this week as a litmus test to gauge the popularity of the sport with its viewership to see if signing with a promotion would be in its best interest. Although the ratings aren’t back yet for the episode, the fact that CBS’s PR department was pushing the episode to the MMA media pretty hard the past few weeks means they wanted the show to do well and were making sure it did. It’s no coincidence that they prominently displayed the ProElite cage and logos throughout Chuck’s cameo on the show. Where there’s smoke, there’s fire and it would have been just as easy for the show to cover up the PE logo or use a generic cage, so there’s a pretty good chance that the promotion is on the cusp of that deal with CBS we talked about a few months back. Now that all of the cards are down, we can probably expect an announcement in the following weeks that a deal that compliments ProElite’s newly announced broadcasting contract with HDNet is in place.

Spike gets back into the MMA reality series game:

Although no easy task, there’s a good chance that we will see Spike pick up where they left off with The Ultimate Fighter and begin producing a new original series to go hand-and-hand with Bellator programming on the channel. The challenge will be coming up with something fresh and new that won’t get stale. Maybe they should take our advice and put both opponents for an upcoming bout in the same fighter house and let nature take its course.

Counter-programmingpalooza:

Both Spike and the UFC have proven that they can be spiteful by attempting to sabotage the competition by airing replays of big fights as a calculated counter-programming measure. Dana White has said that he’s not at war with Bjorn Rebney, but since BR is no longer the primary owner of Bellator, all bets are off. Expect “The Baldfather” to switch to Berzerker mode like he did with Affliction and ProElite 1.0 when both promotions announced that they would be going head-to-head with the UFC. Things are going to get interesting shortly.

Worth noting is the fact that Spike still owns the primary broadcasting rights to a portion of the UFC library and considering that they aren’t planning on moving Bellator over from MTV2 until 2013, there’s a pretty good chance that they will be wringing every last drop of blood out of the contract before it expires.

Dear Fox, Please Keep Gus Johnson Away From Your UFC Broadcasts. Signed, Everyone.

(“Maybe he was born with it. Maybe it’s Maybelline.”)

One overlooked scenario from today’s blockbuster announcement that Fox Networks has signed a seven year broadcast deal with the UFC is that Gus Johnson may somehow be involved in its UFC coverage.

Fox recently inked the sometimes MMA commentator to a multi-year commentary deal that will see the veteran football and basketball play-by-play man call a variety of Pacific-12 football and basketball games, the Cotton Bowl and football games on the Big Ten Network, which is also partly owned by Fox. He will also call about 30 BTN basketball games as well as some yet-to-be-determined college basketball games on either Fox or FX.

Hopefully for the sake of the majority of MMA fans who came to loathe the much-maligned Renzo Gracie BJJ blue belt’s oblivious Strikeforce commentary, his other duties will keep his made-up mug off of the UFC-related broadcasts, that are said to include pre and post-fight shows and a weekly or daily UFC magazine-type series.

If UFC president Dana White has his way, Johnson, who he called “bush league” for the way he handled the brawl in Nashville last year, won’t be allowed near any of his shows.

Here’s what White had to say about Johnson’s “Sometimes these things happen in MMA” remarks in an interview with Yahoo! Sports’ Kevin Iole:

“When have you seen anything remotely close to that happen at a UFC event?” White asked. “What kind of ridiculous commentary was that? That was an idiotic thing to say. And then he was yelling at them to stop, telling them they are on national television. That was just another example of how bush league they are.”

UFC color analyst Joe Rogan is also not a fan of GuJo.

I’d rather see Mauro Ranallo get the gig than Gus and I’d much rather see Chael Sonnen host his own UFC show. Maybe he could do double-duty as a political analyst on Fox News.
