Where has the time gone?

The Ultimate Fighter has been chugging along for 27 seasons now. Some have been fantastic; others were not so much. But the original cast of characters from “TUF 1” still holds a special place in MMA fans hearts.

The UFC has been working overtime as of late compiling a ton of new content in lieu of the promotions 25th Anniversary. One such program will feature a where are they now style documentary revolving around the original cast from the groundbreaking first season of TUF back in 2005.

Only Josh Koscheck, Lodune Sincaid, and Jason Thacker missed out on the “TUF 1” reunion. All of the other fighters and coaches from the inaugural season took part in the get-together.

Retired fighter and “TUF 1” cast member Mike Swick shared an interesting side by side comparison photo via social media.

“TUF 1” middleweight winner Diego Sanchez is the only fighter still competing inside the octagon 14 years later. Although, a number of other fighters and coaches from TUF 1 are still active in the sport. Namely, Chris Leben who recently came out retirement to fight Phil Baroni in a bare-knuckle boxing match later this year.

UFC Veteran Chris Leben is coming out of retirement but his next fight won’t take place inside of the Octagon.

Leben has had some hard times after he decided to call it quits in Jan. 2014 ending a 12-year long career that included 22 fights in the UFC and following that decision, he was ordered to 120 days in jail after he was convicted of breaking and entering his ex-wife’s apartment, possession of illegal firearms and violating a court order held by Kaleena Leben. He started his sentence back in September of 2015 but was later released.

However, things were looking up for him as he signed an exclusive multi-year, multi-fight contract with Bellator MMA but Leben’s comeback was cut short after doctors found a severe medical condition that left him with just 18 percent of normal blood flow to his heart, which is a life-threatening abnormality to the left ventricle of his heart that was oversized, misshapen, and not operating prop and as a result, he never fought in Bellator.

That has all changed now that he has been cleared to fight Phil Baroni on Oct. 20 in a bare-knuckle boxing match with the World Bare Knuckle Fighting Federation in Casper, Wyoming. Leben made the news official by writing the following on his official Instagram account:

“Just signed my contract with the world bareknuckle fighting federation to fight Phil Baroni October 20 I’m back baby.”

On the flip side, Baroni has competed in several top promotions in his pro-MMA career including UFC, Pride FC, Elite XC, Strikeforce, DREAM, Bellator, ONE Championship in his nearly two decades of experience in the sport and has fought top names such as Frank Shamrock, Karo Parisyan, Brad Tavares, Kazuo Misaki, Dave Menne, among many others.

10 UFC Fighters Who Quit On The Stool

These 10 UFC fighters decided to quit on the stool in between rounds:

The concept of quitting is a taboo subject in mixed martial arts.

But in the heat of the battle in the Octagon, even some of the toughest human beings on the planet can be brought to their physical and mental breaking point.

To prove it, in this article, we’ll tell the stories of 10 UFC fighters who came to the painful conclusion that they had no other option left but to cast the stigma aside and quit on their stool.

Chris Leben

Leben is one of the toughest fighters to have ever set foot in the Octagon, which made it all the most shocking when he waved the white flag following the first round of his fight with Uriah Hall at UFC 168 in late 2013.

The already bloodied Leben, who had a reputation for possessing a granite chin and having the ability to take ungodly amounts of punishment, was attempting to take the fight to Hall in the dying seconds of the opening round when he suddenly ate a lightning-quick right hook flush to the face that floored him with a few more shots connecting cleanly on the mat before the bell saved him.

Leben rose back to his feet like a zombie afterwards and staggered back to his corner dazed and confused, asking his corner if the fight had been stopped.

They assured him that wasn’t the case, but that fact didn’t seem to put his mind at ease.

”I’m done man, I’m done,” Leben suddenly said. “Stop it.”

It was a poignant moment to see such a battle-hardened warrior admit that he had nothing left, and even more so in hindsight given that it would later emerge that Leben really was done.

After all the wars he’d been in over the years, both inside and outside of the cage, ‘The Crippler’s’ memorable career came to an end that night.
