Rising UFC Bantamweight contender Cody Garbrandt has “no love” for the champion of his division, longtime Team Alpha Male rival Dominick Cruz.

During his appearance on “Inside MMA” on AXS TV recently, “No Love” Garbrandt shared his belief that Cruz, who pretended not to know who Garbrandt was when asked by the media about him after he defeated Urijah Faber at UFC 199 in the first defense of his latest reign as UFC 135-pound champion, is avoiding fighting him.

“Dominick Cruz can’t knock anybody out. He’s got grapes for hands…Dominick knows that I’m coming for him, like everyone. He’s the champion so he has an X on his back but I’m definitely in his head and he knows he doesn’t want to fight me. That’s why he wants to move up, talk about moving up to [145] and fighting some other people. He’s trying to either get out of the division or retire before he has to fight me.”

Outside of the obvious issues the Faber-led Team Alpha Male camp has had with Cruz over the years, Garbrandt claimed that Cruz’s fighting style is one of many reasons why he isn’t a fan of him.

“I just think the guy’s a dork…. I don’t like his style. I feel like he’s a point fighter, he goes in there trying to point and take everyone to decisions. He doesn’t go in there and be a true fighter. He goes in there and just tries to out point people. This is the fight game. We come out here for finishes.”

Speaking of Team Alpha Male, Garbrandt also made it clear that T.J. Dillashaw, a former member of the team who left with former team head coach Duane “Bang” Ludwig, “can get it too.”

“T.J. too. He can get it too. T.J., Dominick, all those guys can get it. They talk sh*t but they know the real truth. They know I’m the lion in this division and I’m coming to eat them all.”

Faced with the toughest test of his UFC career when he met No. 6-ranked Michael McDonald in the main event of last night’s (Wed., July 13, 2016) UFC Fight Night 91 from the Denny Sanford Premier Center in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, surging bantamweight John Lineker delivered one of the most scintillating MMA knockouts of the year.

The previously No. 8-ranked ‘Hands Of Stone’ has been on an absolute tear, winning his last five bouts in the octagon, which includes a three-fight win streak with two finishes back at 135 pounds when he was forced to abandon his quest for the flyweight title after repeatedly missing weight.

But it could be argued that Lineker possesses even more power at bantamweight, and that’s a scary thing for the rest of the suddenly stacked division. After the win and in a post-fight interview with UFC on FOX, Lineker called out champion Dominick Cruz for the next title shot at 135 pounds:

While he’s certain to rise up the ranks after such an emphatic knockout over McDonald, the path to a title shot may not be so cut and dry for Lineker.

Former champion TJ Dillashaw just beat previous No. 4 Raphael Assuncao at last weekend’s UFC 200 and wants a rematch with Cruz after their ultra-close match at UFC Fight Night 81, Bryan Caraway is angling for a shot himself, and similiary surging contender Cody Garbrandt will take on Takeya Mizugaki at September’s UFC 203 and could be inching closer to a shot at the belt himself.

Taking that into consideration, do you believe Lineker already deserves a title shot, or does he need one (or more) high-profile wins before he summits that mountaintop? Cast your vote right here:

Reigning UFC bantamweight champion Dominick Cruz has a long and rocky history with Sacramento based gym Team Alpha Male, a team founded and led by Cruz’s most bitter rival, Urijah Faber. Cruz has most notably battled with “The California Kid” on three different occasions, winning twice with the most recent victory coming earlier this month at UFC 199. With a clear cut unanimous decision victory, “The Dominator” closed the door on a near decade long rivalry with Faber.

Cruz has also had bad blood with ex-Team Alpha Male member TJ Dillashaw, who “The Dominator” outpointed last January to recapture the title. In Cruz’s mind, the rivalry between him and Team Alpha Male will never end:

“I’ve been facing these guys since the beginning of my career. I said it a long time ago on one of my interviews that I chop one head off and another one just pops right back up,” Cruz said (transcription by MMA Fighting). “Those guys are never going to stop hating me. They’re never going to stop wanting to beat me.”

“Faber’s going to keep promoting these guys because he collects a percentage off promoting these guys.”

Cruz often accuses Faber of collecting money off rising fighters from the gym, and the next surging Team Alpha Male bantamweight appears to be No. 7-ranked Cody “No Love” Garbrandt. Garbrandt recently scored a brutal knockout victory over Thomas Almeida, and Faber has said that he’ll eventually be a tough test for Cruz.

The champion, however, isn’t worried about “No Love”, and actually issued a challenge to his rivals over in Sacramento:

“To me, it was just normal, Team Alpha Fail business. Them talking, trying to skip positions in the line,” Cruz said. “The way I see it is, just get in line man. Beat somebody that’s ranked in the top 3.”

“That’s how I feel about those guys, any of those guys. Don’t try to talk your way to the front of the line.”

Has Team Alpha Male jumped the gun on Garbrandt, or is the young knockout artist on his way to a title shot?

It’s hardly a secret that mixed martial arts (MMA) fans watch the UFC for its heart-pumping knockouts that its most revered stars produce in high-pressure situations.

True, some may watch the UFC for its combination of power and skill, and others still may tune in for their own appreciation of wrestling and/or grappling, but if you were to poll every fight fan out there, you’d most likely receive an overwhelming response that most fans love MMA for the exhilarating knockouts.

That makes the fighters who often knock their opponents out obvious fan favorites, and indeed many have died by the sword attempting to become one of these crowd-pleasing stars. Apparently Nate Diaz and Jason Guida wasn’t the only backstage altercation that happened at last Saturday night’s UFC 199 event at The Forum in Inglewood, California.

As UFC Bantamweight contender Cody Garbrandt explained during a recent edition of Team Alpha Male’s Stud Radio (watch above), he and reigning UFC Bantamweight Champion Dominick Cruz nearly got into it after he defeated Garbrandt’s teammate Urijah Faber in the co-main event.

“Yeah, [he, Cruz, popped out of the tent] with this dumbass look on his face,” Garbrandt said. “I was sitting there, walked out of Faber’s tent, talked to him, kind of taking it all in. He [Cruz] popped out of his tent and kind of made eye contact with me, made this face like, ‘Yeah, motherfuc*er, what?'”

Garbrandt continued, explaining just how close things got to getting physical.

“I was sitting there, and he [Cruz] wouldn’t turn away, so I was like ‘Alright, what’s up? It’s cool. Keep my belt polished up for me.’ And he grabbed his belt off his dude and put it over his shoulder like, ‘You better get in line.’

“I was like, ‘There ain’t no line right now. I’ll run up on you and smack you right in your face.'”

Apparently Garbrandt could handle all of that, however when the discussion turned to his body ink, things almost got more intense.

“And he started talking sh*t about tattoos, and that’s when I got kind of pissed off,” Garbrandt said. “He was saying some stupid, dorky-ass sh*t. He’s got that tribal tat, but he’s talking sh*t about tattoos. I was like, ‘That’s cool, man, what are we, teenagers?’

“So I was just like, ‘Fu*k it, man. I ain’t about talking. I’ll just run up and smack you. Fu*k the line. Wait in line? I’ll jump the line.’ Then his cornermen were right there, like, ‘Get the fu*k out of here,’ and I was like, ‘Fu*k this dude.’ He wants to look at me, grab his belt and turn toward me, yeah, keep it polished for me, because I’m coming, motherfu*ker. That was that.”
