The viewership numbers for the Floyd Mayweather vs. Conor McGregor preliminary card are in. The undercard aired on FOX and drew about double the usual level of viewers for boxing on the network.

Two bouts aired on FOX for two hours leading to the pay-per-view broadcast, airing 7-9 p.m. Eastern time and 4-6 p.m. Pacific time, averaged 2,438,000 viewers. This is much bigger than the usual boxing event on the network as boxing has averaged 1,427,000 viewers so far this year. It was FOX’s most watched boxing show in 20 months.

130,000 viewers were watching the show between Fox Deportes and the Fox Sports Go streaming platform. To break down each fight that took place on the preliminary card, the Juan Heraldez vs. Jose Miguel fight did 2,360,000 viewers while the Yordenis Ugas vs. Thomas Dulorme fight drew 3,110,000 viewers.

The pre-fight show on FOX that hyped the PPV pulled in 1,463,000 viewers, far more than pre-fight shows for any UFC events have done. The post-fight show and weigh-ins did strong numbers as well.

The post-fight show pulled in 368,000 viewers on FOX Sports 1, which was up from 320,000 viewers that the second McGregor vs. Nate Diaz fight did. The weigh-ins pulled 287,000 viewers, which is the third most-watched weigh-in for a combat sports event ever on FOX Sports 1.

UFC lightweight champion Conor McGregor suffered a 10th-round knockout loss to boxing legend Floyd Mayweather.

It should be noted that this event was made available for fans to watch on more platforms compared to a typical UFC event including ESPN, which ran the weigh-ins and extensive post-fight coverage.

The UFC has ultimately decided to refund fans’ money who had trouble streaming Saturday’s Mayweather vs. McGregor pay-per-view event on their online service UFC Fight Pass.

Countless customers who purchased the event on the UFC’s website UFC.tv experienced issues with viewing the stream that were expected to be in conjunction with the sheer volume of the event, but many reported were initially met with responses proclaiming refunds would not be issued even though customer service had no immediate fix for the problems.

Some were eventually able to get access to the card towards the end of the co-main event, some were to able to access the pay-per-view until the middle of the main event, and others still were unable to view the card at all.

Because of this sheer discrepancy in offering a wide range of outcomes for an event that was billed as the biggest combat sporting event of all time and should have therefore proportionately delivered like it, the UFC and its President Dana White issued a statement on Twitter confirming they would indeed issue refunds for customers who experienced issues:

White’s statement reiterated his support for the fans that he focused on in a prior response, and based on the issues with their streaming service NeuLion, the polarizing UFC exec said the company had to take care of fans ‘as usual’ and had already started processing the refunds:

“We always try to put on the biggest and most exciting fights. We want our fans to have the best experience when watching our events. Unfortunately, we didn’t deliver the way we wanted on Saturday because of NeuLion’s technical issues on UFC.tv. As usual, we always take care of our fans and we will fix this. We have started processing refunds immediately for anyone who could not access the fight after purchase.”

SHOWTIME Sports also had a class-action lawsuit filed against them for similar problems, so the UFC may have wanted to circumvent any such legal action and admit where they went wrong.

Either way, those who missed out on Mayweather vs. McGregor, the long-anticipated and super-hyped boxing match that “Money” won by 10th-round TKO, will be getting their money back soon from the UFC.

We’ll just have to wait and see how that affects the overall buyrate and revenue number, which White said was on track to easily pass the previous record of 4.6 million buys.

McGregor was TKO’d in the tenth round after a spirited showing in the first few frames. In fact, McGregor took the first two to three rounds, landing a nasty counter lead uppercut in the first.

For an 0-0 professional boxer going against an undefeated legend in the sport, Team SBG has plenty to be proud of in how their teammate acquitted himself in the ring when he usually does his work in the octagon.

How do you feel about McGregor’s performance against Mayweather on Saturday night?

For those who had problems streaming last Saturday’s (Sat., August 26, 2017) boxing match with Conor McGregor from the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada, on UFC Fight Pass, the UFC is trying to figure out just what went wrong – but they aren’t offering refunds yet.

In a statement issued to USA TODAY via MMA Junkie, the UFC said they are supposedly working diligently with their streaming provider to sort out the scene:

“We’re incredibly disappointed by the technical difficulties that were experienced Saturday night, and we’re working with our vendor NeuLion to assess exactly what happened.”

UFC President Dana White also reaffirmed the promotion’s commitment to their fans, noting that they would be ‘taken care of’:

“Nothing is more important to the UFC than our fans,” said White in a prepared statement. “They’ve always been incredibly loyal and supportive and we’ll always take care of them.”

Issues with the main card stream extended well into the event, with Mayweather vs. McGregor actually having to be delayed in order to get the issues fixed. The fight was on pace, at least according to White, to break the previous record of 4.6 million buys set by 2015’s Mayweather vs. Pacquiao, but obviously, this ongoing issue could put a dent in that number if the UFC faces a class-action lawsuit and refunds are forcibly issued.

The boxing super fight was co-promoted by SHOWTIME Sports, who also saw some issues with their streaming service that have already lead to a class-action lawsuit.

SHOWTIME representative Chris DeBlasio also issued a statement to MMA Junkie saying they had received a smaller number of complaints, but they actually confirmed they would be issuing refunds:

“We received a very limited number of complaints,” the statement read. “We’re reviewing all of them carefully, and we will respond accordingly. Refunds are handled at the point of sale, so with regard to Showtime’s direct to consumer, our online offering of ShowtimePPV.com and Showtime PPV app, for those that could not see the fight on those platforms, Showtime will issue a full refund. Of course, the goal is to deliver at the highest quality all of the content.”

With every decision comes a consequence and for those fighters who took part in battle at the Money Fight event this past Saturday night in Las Vegas Nevada at T-Mobile Arena, it’s their time to faces those consequences in the form of medical suspensions.

As a result of the fight, UFC lightweight champion Conor McGregor has been suspended for two months due to his 10th-round knockout loss to boxing legend Floyd Mayweather. The event’s main card aired live on Showtime pay-per-view while two preliminary bouts aired on FOX.

The UFC lightweight champion was stopped by the boxing legend with a flurry of punches at the 1:05 mark of the 10th frame after a strong early performance. This marked McGregor’s first loss as a professional boxer. On the flip side, Mayweather escaped without a suspension for his retirement fight, which brought his overall record to 50-0.

The full list of medical suspensions from the event can be seen here:

Conor McGregor suspended until Oct. 26 with no contact until Oct. 11

Nathan Cleverly: suspended until Oct. 11 with no contact until Sept. 26

Thomas Dulorme: suspended until Sept. 26 with no contact until Sept. 17

Last Saturday night’s (August 26, 2017) massively anticipated Floyd Mayweather vs. Conor McGregor boxing match from the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada is expected to go down as quite possibly the biggest pay-per-view (PPV) boxing event ever at a price tag of $99.95 plus tax (US) for the monumental super fight in high definition (HD).

However, also as expected, many so-called fight fans chose to stream the fight illegally rather than pay said price tag, and that resulted in a huge deluge of pirated streams, of which 239 were reported. According to numbers published by Variety, that resulted in 2.93 million viewers illegally viewing the fight:

“The Aug. 26 match from Las Vegas yielded 239 illegal live-streamed rebroadcasts online, reaching an estimated 2.93 million viewers worldwide, according to content-security vendor Irdeto. Of those, 67 were hosted on well-known piracy streaming websites. Pirates also used services including Facebook, YouTube, Twitter’s Periscope, Amazon-owned Twitch and media-player platform Kodi to illegally redistribute the highly anticipated event, according to Irdeto.

It’s not clear how big an impact the piracy of the Mayweather-McGregor fight had on PPV purchases through Showtime Networks, which charged $99.95 to access the live event. Not everyone who accessed the illegal streams, after all, would have paid to watch the legal broadcast even if the pirated versions weren’t available. The event has been projected to gross upwards of $1 billion in PPV revenue, which would shatter previous records.”

However, another report from Yahoo! Sports’ Kevin Iole suggests that the number is far, far more at up to 100 million illegal stream viewers, making it absolutely dwarf the upwards of 5 million viewers who paid for the card, which Dana White proclaimed was trending to break the previous record of 4.6 million buys set by Mayweather vs. Pacquiao. It’s also a number that will even potentially make it the most pirated sports event of all time.

While that’s an alarming number to be certain, it may be hard to find too many combat sports fan willing to be sorry for the promoters of such a spectacle, which is set to gross a record-setting $1 billion dollars in PPV revenue.

The number of illegal viewers may have also been increased by the fact that UFC Fight Pass and other streaming and PPV services experienced some significant technical difficulties with the main card, which certainly may have frustrated some viewers to go the nefarious route of streaming it for free. They most likely won’t be getting refunds for the card they already paid for, however, making a frustration pirated stream a moot point – and an illegal one at that.

Regardless, Mayweather vs. McGregor is going to gain a record-breaking haul. But it could have been much more based on the sheer number of viewers who pirated the fight online.
