With only two-and-half weeks remaining until the ultra-hyped boxing match between Floyd Mayweather and UFC lightweight champion Conor McGregor, the onus of promoting the bout seems to have curiously fallen on ranting former boxing champion Paulie Malignaggi, whose sparring drama with ‘The Notorious’ has ruled any and all talk about the fight lately.

The scene has created a far cry from last month’s world tour, where both stars earned mixed reviews for their promotional hype throughout an exhausting four-city, three-country whirlwind. The most groan-worthy moments undoubtedly centered on McGregor’s supposed racism when he told Mayweather to ‘dance for me, boy,’ before denying any accusations of racism as he claimed to be ‘black from the bellybutton down’ before humping the air for his ‘beautiful black female fans.’

According to a report from MMA Fighting, however, it was actually a moment that occurred backstage during an interview for Jimmy Kimmel Live in Toronto where McGregor was faced with a question about Rocky 3, to which he asked, ‘Is that the one with the dancing monkeys in the gym?’ It’s uncertain just what he meant, but the general opinion was that he was referring to a scene where Rocky Balboa trains at an all-black gym. The clip has since been taken offline.

It’s a bad look for McGregor to be certain, and although he doesn’t seem to care much about that perception, Mayweather is clearly growing tired of it. His previously voiced concerns became more prevalent during an interview with Stephen A. Smith on ESPN’s SportsCenter last night, where he described his disapproval of McGregor’s questionable interview:

“I just didn’t like when he called us monkeys,” Mayweather said. “I think that was totally disrespect. … He called us monkeys. I didn’t like it. It didn’t push a button to make me jump out of my character and go crazy, but I didn’t like it.”

Mayweather then hearkened back to African American pioneers like Malcolm X, giving respect to what they’ve accomplished but also acknowledging the racism that still exists. With that established, “Money” said he was a patient man, and McGregor’s day would come on August 26:

“I just thought about all our different leaders. Martin Luther King, Malcolm X. They went on the front line for me and my family and all my loved ones. Like I said before, this stuff still goes on. But I’m strong, I’m smart, patient. And come Aug. 26, I’ll be the same person — smart, strong, patient. And the same way he called us monkeys, we’re gonna see if he say that Aug. 26.”

And in closing, Mayweather devoted his performance to all black people in the world:

“No different,” Mayweather said. “But this is for a cause. This is for the American people. This is for all the blacks around the world.”

Fight fans have been waiting for months for the boxing showdown between UFC lightweight champion Conor McGregor and boxing legend Floyd Mayweather. Now, we are just a few short weeks away.

Usually, when going into the fight, Mayweather talks about himself. However, in a recent interview, he changed it up and spent the time to build up his opponent. The former boxing champion recently did an interview Stephen A. Smith of ESPN, and during the interview, he explained why McGregor has some advantages for the upcoming fight.

“He’s a lot younger. When you look at myself and Conor McGregor on paper, he’s taller, has a longer reach, he’s a bigger man from top to bottom. He’s a lot younger, so youth is on his side,” Mayweather said, per ESPN.com. “And I’ve been off a couple of years. And I’m in my 40s. So, if you look at everything on paper, it leans toward Conor McGregor.”

Mayweather’s comments may lead to some people thinking that he is just making up excuses in case McGregor shocks the world by somehow beating him later this month. It is tough to argue with Mayweather’s points that he made due to the fact that he has gone on record by saying he has “lost a step.” At the end of the day, he is still 49-0 as a professional boxer, but he hasn’t knocked anyone out since 2011.

“I didn’t say I couldn’t fight,” he explained. “I just said I’m not the same Floyd Mayweather I once was.”

No mistake about it, he is ready to produce his best effort against the UFC champion. There might even be some extra motivation coming into this bout after being on the receiving end of some hateful words during the promotional tour. Mayweather also explained the biggest issue he had with McGregor was his use of racial slurs.

“I just didn’t like when he called us monkeys,” he said.

The biggest fight of the year is set to go down on August 26th at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada. The bout will air on pay-per-view and is expected to be the most lucrative prize fight of all time.

Paulie Malignaggi Goes Off On Conor McGregor For How Bad He Treats Sparring Partners

Paulie Malignaggi continues to go off on UFC lightweight champion Conor McGregor. Of course, the final straw that was broken saw Malignaggi leave training camp after photos of their sparring sessions were made public. The photos made it look like Malignaggi was knocked down, but he says there are other things outside the ring that led to that decision.

Malignaggi has come out and stated that he felt like he was being “set up” in sparring. However, the former two-division champion has now revealed a bit more of what he didn’t like from the experience.

“My problems isn’t just with the sparring. My problem is the way he treats people, the way he treats the other sparring partners,” Malignaggi said on Fox 5’s Sports Xtra (transcript courtesy of Bloody Elbow). “He’s on the bit on the cheap side. You have a hundred million dollar fight, you can splurge a little bit more on training camp, especially the way you treat the sparring partners and the living quarters and what not.”

Malignaggi claims that he never asked for anything extra, but he was floored by the way that the sparring partners were being treated, especially considering how lucrative the fight is.

“I asked for nothing, no special treatment. I wanted to be like the sparring partners,” he said. “In a bit of good faith, I wanted to go over there and stay with the sparring partners. I didn’t negotiate my price. Whatever first price they gave me, I accepted that as far as payment was concerned — which I never got paid by the way. I never tried to make things difficult for them, but I assumed things would be on a moderate living conditions. They really weren’t,” he explained. “A little on the cheap side, like I said.

“I put it like this, I’ve never been part of a 100 million dollar fight, but I’ve been part of multiple fights where there’s been million dollar purses in there. So once you’ve been part of 7 and 8 figure purses — 9 figures in this case — you understand how to treat this training camp and how to properly budget it without being too cheap, but without overspending. There’s people involved, and there’s a team involved, and you need to take care of them too.”

Malignaggi also shined some light on how the irony with how they were being treated, and the image McGregor is trying to maintain in public. According to the former boxing champion, McGregor is a cheap human being.

“And I’ve never seen such a cheap guy in my life, in all my training camps. I was blown away with this guy, with the treatment he’s given everybody,” he said. “But he made sure he rented himself a Lamborghini in Vegas, which was like ‘what is it about? You don’t respect anybody else? I mean these are the people helping you. Is it about status with you?’ I don’t understand what it was.”

Days after former boxing champ Paulie Malignaggi and Conor McGregor met in a highly-publicized sparring session at the UFC Performance Institute in as Vegas, Nevada, Malignaggi has apparently left the McGregor camp after a late night rant against his now-former training partner.

After the session reportedly got a bit ‘out of control’ according to Joe Cortez, the referee brought in to oversee the action, Malignaggi posted on Twitter that some of the pictures of the session posted on social media were misrepresented, especially one that made him look like he had been dropped to the ground when he was allegedly pushed.

Here is the photo in question:

The Sun

Malignaggi offered his view that he fell down from a push, prodding McGregor and his camp to release the full video of their sparring session:

The respected boxer then said he came to McGregor’s camp to help him train to fight Floyd Mayweather, not to be exploited to make him look good:

Malignaggi then tried to set the record completely straight, claiming that he had ‘beat McGregor’s ass’ and wants the full video of the session posted because the time to not be petty is clearly over:

And as a code between fighters, professionals usually don’t do interviews about sparring sessions in order to keep what they saw in the gym, but when McGregor began leaking photos that were from his official photographer – the only photographer allowed in the room – he was forced to defend himself:

Malignaggi got a bit testy with a ‘fan’ who blasted him for doing the interview, noting that it wasn’t him who kicked off the media blitz:

Malignaggi continued blasting McGregor supporters, telling another to stop ‘inventing his own reality’:

Finally, Malignaggi posted a lengthy Instagram response revealing he was officially leaving McGregor’s training camp and would divulge the reasons why later:

So McGregor’s highest profile sparring partner has left his camp 22 days away from the circus-like event in Las Vegas, mainly be cause he didn’t like how he was portrayed in photographs that he believes were engineered to only show McGregor in a favorable light.

With no professional boxing matches on his record, it could be assumed that McGregor needed to puff himself up by only allowing his official photographer in the room and posting only pictures that were favorable to him.

Perhaps Malignaggi got tagged and had his pride hurt a bit too, but as the former boxing champion noted, we’ll never know until they release the full video of the sparring session, and that doesn’t seem like a likely occurrence at this time.

Yesterday, boxing legend Floyd Mayweather Jr. continued his trash talk battle with UFC lightweight champion Conor McGregor by stating he was willing to go down to eight-ounce gloves for their anticipated boxing fight on August 26 from Les Vegas, Nevada.

“Money” made a post on Instagram that claimed to be ‘helping’ McGregor to gain any advantage he could for the fight with an undefeated all-time great boxing champ, as compared to his professional boxing record which contains no fights:

“Whatever advantage McGregor needs to feel more comfortable in the ring, I’m willing to accommodate. Let’s give the boxing and MMA fans what they want to see,”

A barb disguised as a concession, McGregor quickly saw through his legendary counterpart’s ruse and posted his own response on Instagram that focused on the fact he fights with four-ounce gloves and doesn’t care what they use in the fight:

‘The Notorious’ poked fun at Mayweather’s size as he often has, also adding a jab at this oft-broken hands before proclaiming he would be coming out ‘sprinting with bricks’:

“Another handy 12 rounds today. We are prepared to destroy Floyd.
Pick whatever size gloves you want as well little man. I fight with 4oz. I don’t give a fuck about the size of the glove. I am coming sprinting at you with bricks. Know that. Brittle hands.”

The UFC champ is preparing for the 12-round bout by going that full distance in training, but questions remain about the Irish megastar’s ability to truly hold up that long after he appeared to tire as his two bouts with Nate Diaz drug on. As for the glove size, the contracts have already been signed and it seems like it would be almost impossible to make any changes to the original fight agreement thus far.

The stage is set, the stipulations have been agreed upon regardless of this offer, and the combat sports has 24 days left to wait until the biggest spectacle the fight game has ever seen.

It’s the beginning of August, which only means one thing. We are just a few weeks away from the biggest fight of the year.

That bout will be a boxing match between boxing legend Floyd Mayweather and UFC lightweight champion Conor McGregor. The fight is set to go down on August 26th in Las Vegas, Nevada. It’s pretty obvious that Mayweather is the prohibitive favorite heading into the bout, but McGregor isn’t short of his own supporters. One of his supporters is former UFC heavyweight fighter turned broadcaster, Brendan Schaub.

If you recall, Schaub was part of the commentary team for parts of the MayMac World Tour of press conferences last month. He has already come out and placed a $100,000 bet with HBO boxing analyst Max Kellerman that McGregor will win at least one round against the all-time boxing great.

If you think Schaub is stopping there, then you would be wrong as the former fighter has increased his bet because he is confident that McGregor is being underestimated. He stated in a recent interview with The Kicker (transcript courtesy of MMA Fighting) that not only would McGregor win a round or two, but that he would bet a “d*ck pic” McGregor makes it the full 12 rounds.

“[McGregor]’s gonna land multiple punches. I guarantee it. So this isn’t like a Skip Bayless take, I’m just trying to honeyd*ck people – oh, give me views. I know what I’m talking about. I boxed for 15 years, fought professionally for 10 years in mixed martial arts. I know boxing, I know mixed martial arts, and I know when I got in there with professional boxers, it took them about a round to feel me out and the way I do stand up is traditional. It’s boxing. I don’t have this weird, awkward style. Conor does.

“With Conor, it’s a matter of time on how long does it take Floyd Mayweather to get used to this weird, awkward style. So Mayweather has to download McGregor’s movement, everything that he’s never seen before. He’s gonna do it, it’s just gonna be how long? These old boxing heads, they know boxing, and they hope Floyd doesn’t lose so they trash mixed martial arts, but they don’t actually know what they’re talking about.

“[McGregor will win] at least one [round]. I wouldn’t be surprised if he wins two to three [rounds] early on. . . I will send you guys a dick pic if it doesn’t go all 12 rounds. . . I immediately regret saying that [laughs]. It’s gonna be a good pic though. I’m gonna hire glamor shots.”

As of this writing, the betting odds for the upcoming boxing match currently favors Mayweather at -230. Despite the odds, Schaub remains confident that if anyone is going to get knocked out, it won’t be McGregor.

“If anyone’s gonna gets knocked out it’s Floyd. I promise you Conor will not get knocked out. If anyone gets finished that night, it’s Floyd.”
