Reports have been flying out of Ireland that UFC lightweight champion Conor McGregor’s life is in ‘very, very serious danger’ following his alleged Dublin bar fight with a notorious Irish gangster last weekend, but his father, Tony McGregor, doesn’t seem to be all that worried.

‘The Notorious’ MMA star’s father recently spoke to Irish Mirror (via Balls.ie) to offer his view of the situation, offering the stance that it had grown completely out of control and that his son had nothing to worry about:

“It’s grown legs and it’s getting that ridiculous – it’s become funny. We have nothing to fear here whatsoever. There’s no one after us for anything.”

McGregor insisted that he and his family were law-abiding, and offered an odd comparison of his son’s current situation, which he views as almost total nonsense:

“We’re a law-abiding family and we’ve stayed a law-abiding family. As a matter of fact, right now I’m going out to buy my TV licence. I’d view 95% of that story as nonsense and the other 5% is overly exaggerated. And that’s it.”

Finally, Tony McGregor also heard the rumors that the Irish Gardai were preparing to approach his son with an order declaring his life was in official danger, but he also shot down that possibility by confirming his beliefs that guards wouldn’t be looking for Conor because they had no reason to.

With that established, McGregor revealed that Conor was reportedly at home with his son and girlfriend Dee Devlin as their family got ready for Christmas:

“Guards have no reason to be in touch. Why would they?”

“He’s at home with his son. We’re all just settling down for Christmas now. I’ve just got the grandson’s presents in today, they just came in from America.

“I’ll be wrapping them, putting them under the tree for the big day. That’s it.”

Tyron Woodley is not happy with UFC President Dana White after his recent comments.

For the past few weeks, rumors have been circulating that “The Chosen One’s” next title defense could come against Nate Diaz at December 30’s UFC 219.

When White was asked about this at a recent media day, he claimed that one of the UFC’s lawyers, Hunter Campbell, who joined the company nine months ago, got carried away ‘playing matchmaker.’

Campbell has been involved in negotiating deals with some of the UFC’s biggest stars (quotes via MMA Fighting):

“One of our attorneys here started playing matchmaker and — he has a good rapport with the Diaz brothers — and he basically said [to Nate Diaz], ‘What if you could fight Tyron Woodley?’ Me and Sean (Shelby) were like, ‘How does he deserve to fight Tyron Woodley? There’s a f*cking list of guys that are waiting to fight Tyron Woodley and this dude’s gonna fight … what are you talking about?’

“So he kind of went off the reservation a little bit and started playing matchmaker. That’s why you started hearing Woodley saying, ‘I got offered a fight with Nate Diaz,’ and we’re like, ‘No, there was never a fight.’ So there was really never an offer for Woodley vs. Diaz. That’s not true.

“?First of all, Woodley’s been talking about, ‘I need shoulder surgery. I need shoulder surgery,’ and then … ‘I’ll fight Nate Diaz’ and then starts calling him out and shit. It was a nightmare. None of that was true.”

Woodley reached out to MMA Fighting to respond to White’s comments, claiming that the UFC boss ‘constantly demotes’ him rather than do his job and help promote him:

“Delusional Dana constantly demotes me as a fighter when the job is to promote his fighters, especially champions,” Woodley said. “Why would I get in camp, and why would Nate give a 15 million dollar purse request if there was no fight? It’s obvious they haven’t found their blockbuster headliner yet. This was a reality, and they know it. The inability to come to financial terms with Nate killed it.”

Jessica Eye has really been gunning for a crack at UFC star Paige VanZant, but she’ll have to settle for a bout against Kalindra Faria at UFC St. Louis on January 14th instead.

VanZant and Eye have been scheduled to fight twice before, however, the fights never came to fruition. VanZant will be competing on January 14th as well, but it will reportedly be against Jessica Rose-Clark. During a recent appearance on The MMA Hour, VanZant offered an explanation as to why she isn’t competing against Eye (quotes via MMA Fighting):

“I know that originally me and her were supposed to fight and that I ended up getting hurt, then they tried to get that fight matched up again, but at that point the UFC had moved on and they were trying to get me on the Australia card,” VanZant said. “They asked me when Anderson Silva ended up not being on the Shanghai card, they asked if I would take a last-minute fight. They asked me ten days or maybe two weeks before the fight if I would take a short-notice fight in Shanghai, so this whole time I thought I was going to be jumping in for a short-notice fight because I got ready really quickly and after my back healed I had this itch to get back in the cage right away.”

Eye has her own version of events, however, claiming that VanZant called UFC President Dana White and asked to get out of the fight:

“Because Paige called Dana and asked to get out of the fight,” Eye said. “They were not gonna let her out of this fight and she – whatever bitch fit she threw, I signed that contract, I signed that one October 18 I think… I got the contract signed and returned it that day for that one. I have the other signed contract that we sent back for the other fight and for the other time. Listen, I’m not here saying that maybe two different things weren’t being said, but we all know that the UFC does not send contracts to people unless both parties agreed upon wanting the fight and said yes to everything.

“That went out and then it was like New York weekend (UFC 217) happened and all of a sudden she came home and realized, ‘Oh, wait a minute, Jessica is one of the best 125ers and she can kick my ass. So now I don’t want this fight, I would much rather go fight a girl that Bec (Rawlings) lost to,’ because she beat Bec. Which is fine. It’s totally fine but we’ve been trying to get myself a fight. I haven’t been in the cage, I’ve been begging for 125 and we revolved all of our decision making because Paige was being cooperative. And then one day I think I have a fight coming up, the next day I don’t. It’s not fair for her to do that.”

Whether or not VanZant did in fact call White to get out of the bout, Eye believes she “12 Gauge” would have still found a way out of their Octagon meeting regardless:

“She would have faked some kind of injury or found some other way to get out of that fight or whatever, who knows what would have happened?” Eye said. “It’s not the UFC’s fault, I think it’s bulls**t that she’s trying to act like it’s the UFC’s fault. It was her thing. She was the one who went back and said that she didn’t want the fight, out of nowhere. … In my world, like in most people’s world, if you make a fight, that fight should happen. You don’t get to just choose that, you don’t get to just be the dictator of that.”

“It’s not that I’m pissed off, it’s that if you’re going to tell – listen, I told a lie about my career once and it really screwed things up, I learned from it,” Eye continued. “It’s not fair that she gets to go and play this little innocent role that people are bullying her, that people are saying things that are untrue. I never said anything that was untrue. Paige reached out to me and texted me in July originally about the fight and said, ‘Let’s do this. Let’s kick off this division.’ And we agreed, because we’re fighters and we’re professionals and that’s what we do and then she gets injured. I even messaged her when she gets injured, saying sorry that she was hurt and doing the right thing.”

It shouldn’t be a surprise that the UFC is actually not thinking of booking current UFC welterweight champion Tyron Woodley against the always-game Nate Diaz.

It all started two weeks ago when a report was published on the internet that the promotion was looking to book a title fight between the two fighters for the main event of the UFC 219 card on December 30.

Woodley started looking for ‘money fights’ as soon as he beat Robbie Lawler for the title back at UFC 201. However, those bouts have evaded him up to this point.

The UFC champion has defended the belt three times against the number one contenders in his division. Now, there is no clear-cut contender for his next title defense, and he wants a big fight that will bring in a lot of money. A fight like that would be against Diaz. However, if you really think about it, the fight makes no sense to book due to Diaz’s recent performance in the Octagon.

Diaz hasn’t fought since losing a decision in his rematch with UFC lightweight champion Conor McGregor at UFC 202.

It turns out the fight was never even close to being made official by UFC matchmakers, and in fact, UFC President Dana White stated that he never even had the conversation with his matchmakers. This led to him putting the blame on one of his nameless attorneys for going into business for himself.

Here is what he said at Tuesday’s media scrum (transcribed by Sports JOE):

“One of our attorneys here started playing matchmaker and said he has a good rapport with the Diaz brothers and he basically said, ‘what if you could fight Tyron Woodley?’ Me and Sean (Shelby) were like, ‘How does he deserve to fight Tyron Woodley? There’s a fucking list of guys that are waiting to fight Tyron Woodley and this dude’s gonna fight… what are you talking about?’

“So he kind of went off the reservation a little bit and started playing matchmaker. That’s why you started hearing Woodley saying ‘I got offered a fight with Nate Diaz’ and we’re like, ‘No, there was never a fight.’ Woodley’s been talking about, ‘I need shoulder surgery. I need shoulder surgery,’ and then he’s like, ‘I’ll fight Nate Diaz’ and starts calling him out and shit.’ It was a nightmare. None of that was true.”

Th mixed martial arts (MMA) universe is currently abuzz with the bizarre rumors of Conor McGregor’s alleged bar fight in his native Dublin, Ireland, this past Sunday.

Dana White said he didn’t believe the hype while acknowledging McGregor may never fight again to reporters yesterday, but a renowned Irish crime reporter believes McGregor’s life may be in ‘very serious danger.’

On the heels of that concerning bit of information, a photo of the man who McGregor was alleged to have punched, rumored Irish cartel member Graham ‘The Wig’ Whelan, at The Black Forge in Dublin’s Crumlin suburb has surfaced online. Check it out:

Although no complaints nor reports have been filed by Irish police concerning the alleged assault at this point, rumors are swirling that McGregor either punched Whelan, a friend of his, or even his elderly father.

Newstalk’s Paul Williams said that the men he supposedly assaulted may be connected to one of the most ruthless crime families in all of Ireland, hence the reason for his life being in danger.

It’s been a rough-and-tumble month for McGregor in his native land, and by no small fault of his own. With the MMA world awaiting his first-ever UFC title defense, will the sport’s biggest star be able to bounce back from this concerning downward spiral, or will he join Jon Jones as yet another cautionary tale of MMA superstardom?
