Madison Square Garden will host UFC 230 this evening (Nov. 3, 2018) as Daniel Cormier Defends his heavyweight title against Derrick Lewis, we have you covered with all the results.

To say that matchmakers had some challenges putting together UFC 230 would be an understatement. It seemed every other day there was a change to the co-main event or the main event. Hurdles abound, Dana White and the boys (Sean Shelby & Mick Maynard) managed to put together a pretty compelling night of fights for the New York fans.

The third straight 185-pound fight will serve as the PPV’s midway point. The No. 7 ranked David Branch will take on the ever-slimming-down Jared Cannonier.

A Renzo Gracie black belt Branch is more than capable of rolling with any middleweight in the world. It’s his hands, however, that has been his main focal point leading up to UFC 230. An impressive performance gets Branch right back in the title picture.

Cannonier started off his UFC career with a loss to Shawn Jordan at UFC 182 back in January of 2015. Cannonier was a heavyweight back then; he has since dropped down to light heavyweight and UFC will mark his third weight class at middleweight. The “Killa Gorilla” is a notoriously fast starter, he will no doubt be trying to end the New Yorker’s night early.

Round One

Cannonier fires a leg kick to start the fight and Branch answers with a takedown. Cannonier does a good job defending and manages to get the fight back to the feet. He lands a nice left hand on Branch’s chin. Branch closes the distance and smothers Cannonier. He drags the fight to the ground and lands some soft punches to Cannonier. Cannonier manages to get the fight back to the feet again and continues to walk down Branch. Cannonier lands a one-two and throws a spinning kick that nearly connected. The round ends with Branch attempting a takedown.

Round Two

The round starts and Cannonier lands a hard leg kick. He follows it up with a right hand that drops Branch. He follows it up with a barrage of devastating ground and pound to end the fight.

  • Jared Cannonier defeats David Branch via TKO at 29 seconds of round two

David Branch receives a new opponent at the upcoming UFC 230 pay-per-view event that has gone under several changes.

Branch was originally slated to fight Ronaldo Souza at this show but that fight got changed once Souza had to step up to fight former UFC champ Chris Weidman. This was after Luke Rockhold withdrew from his fight against Weidman. This fight will now be the co-headliner.

David Branch Receives New Opponent

Now, Branch is expected to fight Jared Cannonier in a middleweight bout. MMAJunkie confirmed the news after a report from ESPN.com. It should be noted that UFC has yet to make an official announcement but will do so shortly.

The former WSOF champion is attempting to make a big jump in the tier of competition in the middleweight division. Branch is fresh off a first round knockout of Thiago “Marreta” Santos at UFC Fight Night 128 in April.

Cannonier enters this fight on a 1-3 slump in the light heavyweight division. Now, he has decided to jump down in weight to middleweight. He was scheduled to fight Alessio Di Chirico at UFC Fight Night 140 next month. However, when the UFC offered him this fight against Branch, he accepted.

Ronaldo Souza Returns Against Former WSOF Champion At UFC 230

Ronaldo Souza has his next fight booked.

Ronaldo Souza is slated to make his return soon to the Octagon under the UFC banner according to a recent report.

This comes off the fact that Ariel Helwani of ESPN.com is reporting that the Las Vegas-based promotion is working on the first fight for their upcoming UFC 230 pay-per-view event in November, which historically has been one of the bigger events of the year for the promotion.

Their first event at the arena saw Conor McGregor finish Eddie Alvarez to win the lightweight title at UFC 205 PPV in 2016 while last year, UFC 217 featured the return of former UFC welterweight champion Georges St-Pierre as he made the walk back to the Octagon where he beat Michael Bisping to win the middleweight strap.

Moving along to the report, the promotion is working on an intriguing middleweight fight between Souza and former World Series Of Fighting middleweight and light heavyweight champion David Branch as the two fighters have verbally agreed to fight each other at UFC 230.

Souza (25-6, 1 NC), who is a former Strikeforce middleweight champion, is coming off a split decision loss to Kelvin Gastelum in May and is looking to get back to his winning ways after going 2-2 in his last four fights.

Typically, the older a fighter gets then the closer he gets to end of his career but in Souza’s position, that’s not the case and at 38-years-old, he’s near the top of the middleweight division right now and could be considered a title contender as Souza had been on the cusp of a UFC title shot but suffered a TKO loss to current middleweight champion Robert Whittaker in his bout last April.

On the flip side, Branch (22-4) most recently knocked out Thiago Santos in the first round in April after suffering a submission loss to former UFC middleweight champion Luke Rockhold last September.

The UFC 230 pay-per-view event is set to take place on Saturday, November 3, 2018 at Madison Square Garden in Manhattan, New York City with the main card airing on pay-per-view at 10 p.m. ET while the preliminary card will air on FOX Sports 1 at 8 p.m. ET and the promotion’s streaming service, UFC Fight Pass.

As of this writing, no other bouts have been confirmed for this upcoming show, but the promotion is expected to announce fights in the coming weeks.
