Former interim UFC and WEC welterweight champion Carlos Condit is finally set for his awaited UFC return.

No. 7-ranked Condit has been out of action since his shockingly quick submission loss to Demian Maia in August 2016, and hardcore fans of mixed martial arts (MMA) have been anticipating the action-based contender’s potential return ever since.

Days after he tweeted UFC matchmaker Sean Shelby to ask for a bout, UFC Canada tweeted tonight that the longtime veteran would be returning at December 30’s UFC 219 from Las Vegas, Nevada, against No. 10 Neil Magny:

In hindsight, the Maia loss is tough to discredit “The Natural Born Killer” for considering the absolute war against Robbie Lawler he came off of in January of that year.

Prior to that, Condit finished former title challenger Thiago Alves to earn his title shot against “Ruthless.”

Magny was most recently seen losing a one-sided bout to former UFC lightweight champion Rafael dos Anjos, who appears more than reinvented at 170 pounds, at September 9’s UFC 215 from Edmonton.

Both Top 10-ranked contenders have lost a bit of their once-held momentum in recent years, making their UFC 219 affair a pivotal bout for both athletes. But if the fight is anything like “The Natural Born Killer’s” usual match-ups, fans are going to have much to look forward in Condit’s return.

UFC welterweight champion Tyron Woodley has a partial tear of his labrum, and surgery is an option, SiriusXM Radio’s R.J. Clifford reported Tuesday.

According to Clifford, Woodley will explore all of his medical options before deciding whether or not to have surgery.

Woodley suffered the injury during his victory over Demian Maia at UFC 214 in July.

He wrote on Instagram after the fight he “completely threw my shoulder out at the end of the first”:

The California State Athletic Suspension increased Woodley’s medical suspension to 180 days in August, so regardless of what path he decides on to rehabilitate his shoulder, he’s potentially facing a lengthy absence from the Octagon. MMA Fighting’s Marc Raimondi reported Woodley can have the suspension lessened if receives a clean bill of health from an orthopedist.

After beating Neil Magny at UFC 215 last Saturday, Rafael dos Anjos called out Woodley and said he wanted to challenge for the title. Woodley responded on FS1:

Depending on Woodley’s recovery, Dos Anjos may have to set his sights on a different opponent, which could work out well anyway.

With another win or two in the welterweight division, Dos Anjos would climb even higher up the division rankings and prove himself a worthy No. 1 contender for the belt.

UFC welterweight champion Tyron “The Chosen One” Woodley opened up about resolving his feud with UFC President Dana White, following a series of hostile public statements by both parties after UFC 214 last Saturday (July 29, 2017).

Woodley spoke to ESPN this week and said that after a few phone calls, the beef has been squashed.

“I still feel he should apologize publicly, but I’m not going to hold my breath. The conversation ended with respect and that was really my goal. Dana knows all about talking off emotion. I went a little (crazy) and was talking off emotion, too. Did I really plan on leaking stuff? Probably not. But at the time, I was mad and it sounded good.”

White criticized “The Chosen One” for his performance at UFC 214 against Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu specialist Demian Maia, in a co-main event that broke the record for least amount of strikes thrown in a title fight.

Woodley, along with some mixed martial arts (MMA) analysts, defended the champion for his smart approach to the fight.

Since then, it has been revealed that Woodley suffered a torn labrum in the first round which prevented him from throwing his fierce right hand. He has been medically suspended for 180 days for a torn labrum.

Furthermore, the champion also opened up about his fight with Georges St-Pierre, originally offered to the winner of Maia vs. Woodley, but since given to middleweight champion Michael “The Count” Bisping.

“That was never going to happen. My fight played no factor in that.

“I want Georges to know there’s no shame in his game. I’m not saying he’s scared. He’s not coming back for a belt or to be the best. He’s coming back for big-money fights. He sees a sport in which he helped the pay-per-view model grow and he wants to get on it. There’s no shame in that. But don’t say you’re here for any other reason.”

Woodley will have to stay on the bench for some time while his shoulder heals, and in the meantime, St-Pierre and Bisping are expected to face off at UFC 217 on Nov. 4 at Madison Square Garden in New York City.

Tyron Woodley isn’t going to be happy about this one.

The currently unpopular UFC welterweight champion made headlines earlier this week when he went off on Dana White, threatening some dirt he didn’t want out in the win after White had heavily criticized his safe UFC 214 win over Demian Maia.

Woodley was seriously injured in the fight, tearing his labrum to earn a medical suspension which was just extended to a full six-month term when it was revealed he needed surgery. A long recovery on the horizon, Woodley recently discussed the prospect of an interim title, noting that would ‘lose it’ if the UFC or anyone else even uttered the term that has become far too prevalent.

But unfortunately for him, that’s just what is rumored to be happening. Even though he and White supposedly squashed the beef, a rumor has surfaced that the camps of both Robbie Lawler and Jorge Masvidal have been approached about fighting for an interim title at November 4’s UFC 217 from MSG. The UFC has not yet confirmed the fight and the bout is just a rumor as of right now.

If it were indeed found out to be true, the booking is a curious one at the very least, because while Woodley may indeed be out for six months or more with his injury, he’s also been the most active UFC champion during his recent run, defending the belt three times in less than a year after winning it from Lawler at July 2016’s UFC 201. He’s also defended it against the clear top contenders, facing Stephen Thompson twice at UFC 205 and UFC 209 and then Maia at UFC 214.

But he’s been crying out for a fight with Georges St-Pierre or Nick Diaz while all the while putting on two absolute snoozers in his last two bouts, fights where the MMA community called him out for playing it far too safe in order to keep the belt. By comparison, Lawler only recently returned from his knockout loss to Woodley, defeating Donald Cerrone in a hard-fought decision at UFC 214, and Masvidal lost his latest bout to Maia at May’s UFC 211. Neither has anything close to the recent resumé of Woodley, but both are known to bring the action in the fights nonetheless.

So that may have played into the decision, or the UFC may just want to stack UFC 217, its second straight November card in New York City. Last year’s UFC 205 was obviously a blowout with three title fights, and middleweight champion Michael Bisping is rumored to finally make his next defense against St-Pierre, already putting two title fights on the card.
