Michael Chandler and Dustin Poirier will face off in a three round bout at UFC 281 in Madison Square Garden.

The fight had been in the works for some time now, but has finally been made official. The two have been linked to each other since they had to be separated from one another at UFC 276. After that scrum, Chandler and Poirier were taking shots back and forth at each other. Chandler told Poirier that he needs to act like a professional, while Poirier claims he only said what was on his chest.

Chandler is coming off of a brutal front kick KO victory over Tony Ferguson, that ended up sending Ferguson into the welterweight division. Since debuting in the UFC, Chandler has had an enormous amount of hype behind him, and he has done more than live up to it.

Chandler has come the closest to beating Charles Oliveira, as he almost captured gold in just his second fight with the organization. He also had one of the best fights in recent memory, when he went toe to toe with Justin Gaethje, but lost. His knockouts over Ferguson and Dan Hooker are incredible highlight finishes as well, cementing him as one of the most exciting fighters in the UFC.

Michael Chandler has also signed a multi-fight deal with the UFC

According to reports, it seems as if Chandler will be staying for the one haul, as he has inked a new multi-fight deal with the UFC.

Porter’s last fight came eight months ago, when he lost to Charles Oliveira, in what was ‘Do Bronx’s’ first title defense of his career. Poirier came up short once again as he was submitted in the third round, in the same way he lost to Khabib Nurmagomedov, the first time he challenged for the title.

Conor McGregor has been alleged to have cheated in the biggest fights of his career.

About four years ago, Conor McGregor took on Khabib Nurmagomedov at UFC 229 in what was billed as ‘the biggest fight in the history of mixed martial arts’. While the bout was a lopsided contest for Nurmagomedov who dominated ‘The Notorious One’ before getting a submission win in the fourth round.

In a new video analysis of the contest, McGregor was alleged to have gone against the rules in multiple ways. Being on the ground for the majority of the bout, the Irish superstar was accused of cheating by holding the Russian’s shorts and putting his toes on the fence in an attempt to stop the Dagestani from applying more pressure on the top.

He also landed a strike on the back of Nurmagomedov’s head and grabbed his glove as well.

A year before that fight, McGregor competed against the undefeated Floyd Mayweather in a boxing match. Both parties were happy with the truckload of cash they made from the event but Mayweather had also accused McGregor of throwing rabbit punches.

Dustin Poirier also complained about Conor holding his gloves throughout their fight.

Chael Sonnen weighs in on Conor McGregor cheating

In a recent episode uploaded to his official YouTube channel, Chael Sonnen was asked by a fan about McGregor’s cheating. As an experienced veteran of the game, ‘The Bad Guy’ shared his thoughts on the video.

“You can break a rule without cheating, for sure,” Sonnen said.

“Think of basketball, something less important than combat sports in terms of damage, but think about travelling. Travelling is against the rules. You break the rule, you’ll even be punished for it. There will be a foul, it will be recognised. Are you a cheater?”

According to Sonnen, it all comes down to the intent of the action as it could’ve been a genuine mistake.

“It’s one of those hard things. You can make a mistake, you can do an accident. I only share that with you, I don’t know what’s in Conor’s mind. In all fairness, when you’re talking about all those clips, I’ve seen those clips, I’ve seen him hold the glove, I’ve seen the toes in the cage. It comes down to intent.”

Fair take from Sonnen who has been in similar situations himself and shines some light on the three golden rules of fighting.

“Breaking the rule and intending to break the rule ahead of time and get away with it is largely what we all as people associate with cheating, as opposed to a foul. What’s in Conor’s mind? Look, there’s a lot of rules out there but there are only three big ones.

“You don’t hit ’em low, you don’t bite ’em, you don’t poke ’em in the eyes. That is basically as long as you follow that, no fighter is going to think that you’re dirty.” (h/t GiveMeSport)

Colby Covington wants a bigger piece of the cake. ”Chaos’ made that much clear while speaking with the press after his unanimous decision victory over Jorge Masvidal at UFC 272.

Heading into UFC 272, it was reported Covington wasn’t earning any points from the pay-per-view purchases.

“This fight I didn’t care about money, I wanted to come out here and fight this guy,” Covington said.

“I was willing to take a pay cut, I would have fought this guy for free.”

Now after beating his former best friend, Covington believes he should be making more than Masvidal, who signed a lucrative new deal prior to the fight.

“I want to be paid more than Jorge Masvidal. I need to be making more than Jorge, that guy’s a flash in the pan.”

“He signed the contract right before the fight because he knew he was going to get his a** whopped. He wasn’t going to have any leverage or power to negotiate after I whoop his a** on Monday morning.”

After headlining three PPV’s, it’s going to be hard for the UFC to deny Covington his fair share. He certainly feels that he is deserving.

“I just turned 34 two weeks before this fight,” Covington added. “I’m in my prime, I’m getting better every single day. You haven’t seen the best of me, I still got a long career ahead of me.”

Colby Covington Still Has Beef With Jorge Masvidal

After 25 minutes in the octagon, Covington wanted more of Masvidal.

“I was ready for 5 more rounds in the parking lot,” he said.

The self-labeled ‘King of Miami’ also threw more jabs at American Top Team calling the gym “American Trash Team.”

It will be interesting to see where Covington goes from here, having already fought Kamaru Usman twice. It seems he has his eyes set on another ATT member, Dustin Poirier. He believes that would serve as a “tune-up” fight before he can meet Usman for the third time.

Covington would prefer to fight three times this year, hoping he makes the walk to the octagon for International Fight Week in July.

Love him or hate him, Covington has proved to be one of the biggest draws in the company.

Colby Covington has doubled down on his willingness to fight Dustin Poirier by calling him out after his victory over Jorge Masvidal at UFC 272.

Covington cruised to a unanimous decision victory over his former friend and training partner, Masvidal in the main event. The two had no love lost as they continued to talk trash after the final seconds of the fight. After his usual shoutout to the every day working people in America, Covington turned to talk trash toward another former teammate at ATT, ‘The Diamond’.

Colby Covington went on to call Dustin Poirier “Louisiana swamp trash” and wants to fight him as soon as possible.

“Now onto business Joe. I just took care of Miami street trash and now it’s time to take care of Louisiana swamp trash. Where you at Dustin Poirier, you cuck! You said it’s on sight, name the sight Dustin….I’ll see you soon. You’re Next!” Covington said in his interview with Joe Rogan.

Covington is all about business and is now about making money with his fights inside the octagon. It seems as if Covington doesn’t have the welterweight strap in mind anymore, as he is looking to fight the biggest names in the sport and make money while dominating like he did against Masvidal. These grudge matches are very easy for ‘Chaos’ to sell, and his trash talk gets people excited to see him fight for many different reasons.

Poirier and Covington have had many back and forth arguments recently, including Covington calling Poirier a cuck that watches Conor McGregor with his wife. Poirier has already been hinting at a possible move from the lightweight division, to the welterweight division. He was even hinting at fighting Nate Diaz at welterweight, when the rumors of that fight was floating around.

Covington was also vocal about Poirier and his future in the welterweight division as well. He said after his loss to Charles Oliveira, that his time was up in the lightweight division.

Paddy Pimblett believes that he could submit Dustin Poirier in a similar fashion to Charles Oliveira.

Since making his debut in the UFC last year, Pimblett has been making all kinds of noise in the MMA space. His knockout of Luigi Vendramini really brought a ton of new eyes on the Liverpool product. What a lot of these new fans do not realize is that “The Baddy” actually has more submission wins than knockout wins.

During his recent appearance on Michael Bisping’s podcast ‘Believe You Me’ Pimblett suggested that he could finish Poirier in the same way that Charles Oliveira did at UFC 269. (H/T bjpenn.com)

“I went with Poirier over Oliveira. And lad, after watching that fight as well, I’m watching that thinking, ‘Lad, if Oliveira can do that to you Dustin, I can.’ It’s mad like, when you watch (it), MMA math doesn’t work, but when you watch fights, you’re just like, ‘Wow, if he can do that and get in that position, then f***ing I can.”

While Pimblett is very confident in his abilities, he also isn’t going to get too far ahead of himself. He has already said that in order for him to fight the top 15 fighters, he will have to get an increase in pay.

He has also been teasing his return to the octagon recently. With the UFC returning to England in the early spring, it seems like the Pimblett train is just getting started.

Before storming onto the scene in the UFC, Pimblett was a star in Cage Warriors over in the UK. He was the featherweight champ and also competed at lightweight toward the end of his time with the promotion.

Dustin Poirier

In the build up to his lightweight title fight this weekend at UFC 269, Dustin Poirier looked back at some of the biggest wins of his career.

The trilogy he had with Conor McGregor was of course discussed at length.

McGregor won their first fight via knockout way back at UFC 178 when both fighters were at featherweight. The two then locked horns in a lightweight bout at UFC 257. ‘The Diamond’ turned the tables this time and won via knockout in the second round.

The rubber match happened soon after the second fight, taking place at UFC 264. It looked like Poirier had picked up exactly where he had left off when McGregor suffered a broken leg at the end of the first round, ending the fight.

This week, he looked back on the biggest wins in his UFC career and believes McGregor’s was on his way to a sound defeat and the broken leg cut that short. (H/T mmaweekly.com)

“If his leg wouldn’t have broke, I would have broke his heart. The fight was bad for him. I was in full control,” Poirier said. “I saw that look in his eyes of desperation that I saw in Abu Dhabi. I was going to knock him out. He wasn’t going to fight five rounds with me.”

There is also a great moment between him and Justin Gaethje in the video. Gaethje claims that after their fight in 2018, which Poirier won via knockout in the fourth round, that he was taking picture with fans and signing tons of autographs right after the fight, while Poirier was in the hospital for awhile after.

Poirier laughed and denied the claim made by Gaethje. He said that he went straight back to his AirBnb, had beer and threw a little party there.
