Reigning UFC lightweight champion Conor McGregor is one of the very best knockout artists in the sport, as his left hand has become a staple in his arsenal on his way to superstardom. Despite McGregor’s success thus far, he has received some criticism regarding his grappling skills.

He was taken down repeatedly by Chad Mendes in July 2015, although he ended up scoring a second round knockout victory over “Money”, and he was submitted by Nate Diaz in March 2016, although he avenged that loss at UFC 202 this past August.

One former champion to recently comment on McGregor’s skill set is former longtime middleweight kingpin Anderson “The Spider” Silva, who said that the Irishman has ‘clear flaws’ in his game:

“He has flaws. We all have flaws. And his flaws are clear,” Silva told Combate News (Via MMAFighting.com). “He defends well, but he doesn’t have jiu-jitsu. The main thing is that he uses his movement and his opponent’s movement in his advantage.

“He never puts himself in uncomfortable positions. Everyone who fought him put themselves in uncomfortable positions and weren’t able to get back to comfortable positions again.”

Like McGregor, Silva is a lethal striker and perhaps one of the very best strikers in the history of the sport. “The Spider”, at times, has had issues dealing with wrestlers, however, although he does possess a black belt in Brazilian jiu-jitsu. While Silva always has a submission up his sleeve if needed, McGregor has rarely shown this side of his game.

If he continues to knock fighters out with his boxing though, McGregor’s submission skills likely won’t matter.

Speaking of his boxing skills, the “Notorious” one is often linked to a potential boxing match with retired former pound-for-pound king Floyd Mayweather.

Silva believes this is a fight McGregor ‘should’ take:

“I think everybody has a chance,” Silva said. “When you step inside (the ring) to fight, you have a chance. Of course that if you’re fighting Mayweather, people would say ‘oh, McGregor won’t last a round,’ but we never know.”

“The movement is different, how you have your feet on the ground is different, the timing is different boxing,” he continued. “The only way to see is putting them to fight. He would have to stop at least a year to be able to do a close fight, and I believe he should do it.”

What do you make of “The Spider’s” comments?

Floyd Mayweather Reacts To Dana White’s Offer

Earlier today (Jan 13, 2016), UFC President Dana White appeared on an edition of The Herd and made an offer to Floyd Mayweather regarding the often discussed boxing fight between the retired former pound-for-pound king and UFC lightweight champion Conor McGregor. White offered both Mayweather and and McGregor $25 million and said that the pay-per-view (PPV) split would be discussed later on.

While White called the proposition a ‘real’ offer, Mayweather, who has said he would need a guaranteed $100 million to make the fight happen, is unsurprisingly not interested. In fact, TMZ Sports caught up with “Money” shortly after White’s comments were released, and Mayweather laughed, while also calling the UFC boss a ‘f*cking comedian’

“He’s a f*cking comedian,” Mayweather said about the $25 million offer. “Look at that watch I bought. Do you know how much that costs? Look it up.”

Well-respected MMA journalist Ariel Helwani also made waves today regarding the situation when he tweeted that the potential Mayweather vs. McGregor bout was ‘no longer just a PR stunt’. Helwani noted that many hurdles would have to be conquered, but he said that the bout was now in an ‘exploratory’ stage.

One of those hurdles is certainly how much money Mayweather will demand for the fight, and it appears as if White’s offer falls a bit shy of what “Money” is looking for.

The long discussed boxing mega fight between retired former pound-for-pound king Floyd “Money” Mayweather and reigning UFC lightweight champion Conor McGregor has seemed to be nothing more than a dream fight between two of combat sports’ biggest stars.

Few have expected the fight to actually take place, but the idea has remained in the limelight nonetheless. In fact, Mayweather recently said that his team attempted to make the fight happen, and that he was willing to pay McGregor $15 million in addition to a cut from the pay-per-view (PPV) revenue, which would be massive.

Still, the fight appeared to be unlikely. According to well-respected MMA journalist Ariel Helwani, however, the potential bout has moved into an ‘exploratory’ phase. While admits that many hurdles must be conquered, he said that the idea is ‘no longer just a PR stunt’:

To add fuel to the growing fire, UFC President Dana White appeared on a Friday (Jan. 13, 2016) edition of The Herd shortly after Helwani’s tweets were release to offer McGregor and Mayweather $25 million each to make the fight happen:

“We’ll pay (Mayweather) $25 million,” said White. “We’ll pay Conor $25 million. And then we’ll talk PPV after. There’s a real offer.”

Mayweather hasn’t competed since scoring a decision victory over Andre Berto in Sep. 2015. McGregor, on the other hand, is coming off of a brutal second round knockout victory over Eddie Alvarez last November in a bout in which he won the UFC lightweight strap.

A potential boxing match between retired pound-for-pound king Floyd “Money” Mayweather and reigning UFC lightweight champion Conor McGregor has been discussed for months now, although it has yet to come to fruition, and many feel as if it never will.

Mayweather, however, spoke on the matter recently saying that he’d be willing to pay McGregor $15 million for the possible mega fight, which “Money” said is the only bout that he’s interested in. Mayweather also took a shot at the Irishman, saying that he doesn’t deserve a $100 million payday, which is what the “Notorious” one is asking for.

Apparently McGregor has gotten wind of Mayweather’s comments and he took to his official Instagram account to troll Mayweather with a hilarious cartoon picture.

Do you ever expect to see Mayweather and McGregor meet in the squared circle?

Conor McGregor: Floyd Mayweather Needs Me

Reigning UFC featherweight champion the “Notorious” Conor McGregor has experienced a roller coaster of media attention in recent memory regarding his withdrawal from his scheduled UFC 200 (July 9, 2016) rematch with Nate Diaz as well as his hypothetical boxing match with retired pound-for-pound king Floyd “Money” Mayweather.

Aside from his now infamous subtle tweets, McGregor has remained relatively quiet, but he recently did an interview that appeared on SportsCenter this morning (May 22, 2016) in which he discussed the current state of his career.

As far as the UFC 200 spectacle goes, in which McGregor was pulled from the card after declining to meet the UFC’s full promotional requirements, the Irishman said that he was simply looking to do what was best for himself after previously drowning himself in the media:

“It was a publicized civil war. I was going through some things, there was some crazy stuff going on back home, and I wanted to be focused on my training. I was in a time where I was figuring out something. I didn’t just shut out and say no to everything. I just wanted to do reasonable media, and then all of a sudden it’s three months from the fight we’ve got to drag you forty hour flights to come and do a runaround – New York, Vegas, California, seventy press conferences, seventy talk shows, adverts. I only made you four hundred million last week. I need to get right.” McGregor said.

From McGregor’s point of view, it appears as if he was looking for more time away from the lights and the cameras, and for the ability to focus on training.

However, he and the UFC were clearly on different pages, and the situation eventually exploded:

“The lack of communication, and they (UFC) weren’t having it, they were trying to push back on me, I was trying to push back on them, and then it was like look – it blew up then.”

McGregor did indeed admit that at times he felt a bit of regret, but in the end he did what was right for himself:

“There were times when seeing the press conferences take place, and I was like I should’ve just jumped on the damn flight. I should’ve just stuck it out and went with it. But sometimes you’ve got to do what’s right for you, and not do what’s right for everyone else, and especially if you’ve done what’s right for everyone else a million times over.”

As far as the rumors regarding a potential showdown with Mayweather go, it appears to be just that: rumors, and speculation just as many had expected.

The “Notorious” one would however be open to the fight, but in no way would he take a pay cut in order to make it happen. According to the Irishman, Mayweather needs him:

“It was him that leaked the rumor. He gets $100 million, and I get $7 million. That is a pay cut to me. I don’t take pay cuts. I thought boxing was where the money was at. Seven million is absolutely laughable. He’s talking $100 million. I’m also talking $100 million. I’m 27 years of age and I’m just about halfway through a $100 million contract,” McGregor said.

“At 27 years of age, Floyd Mayweather was on Oscar de la Hoya’s undercard. Compare that. Who doesn’t want to conquer both worlds? He’s getting old now. I have the size, I have the reach, I have the heighth, I have the youth. He needs me, I don’t need him. That’s the truth of it. Who else he can fight? He fights someone else in the boxing realm.. all of a sudden the pay goes from $100 million to $15 million. He needs me. If he wants to talk, we can talk, but it’s me who is in control here.”

Despite his recent loss, and the madness that has surrounded him as of late, one thing is for sure: the same old brash, outspoken, and confident Conor McGregor is still around.

Amongst the circulating rumors of a potential bout with boxing legend Floyd Mayweather Jr., UFC featherweight champion Conor McGregor is brushing up on his boxing technique with former IBO welterweight champ Chris van Heerden.

McGregor visited the Box N’ Burn gym in Brentwood to step into the ring with the South African in order to test his skills inside the squared circle.

You can check out the sparring session below:

Gym owner and retired undefeated English boxer Tony Jeffries commented on McGregor’s extensive boxing training since arriving in Los Angeles:

“Conor has been here everyday since Friday. Twice a day sometimes.

“As for his skills — “I never thought [Conor] had a chance at beating Floyd until I saw him box today. Now I am on the fence.”

The Irishman has been linked to rumblings of a potential boxing bout with Mayweather, who took responsibility for starting the rumors. Mayweather stated that he will not come out of retirement unless it is for the big money fight against ‘Notorious.’.

Both men have done their fair share of promotion for the rumored ‘Boxing vs MMA’ super fight, as Mayweather has mentioned the Irishman in many recent interviews while McGregor continues to tease fans with a sudden interest in boxing on social media:

Before rumors of a bout with Mayweather began to circulate, McGregor stole headlines when he announced his apparent ‘retirement’ from MMA via Twitter after being removed from the colossal UFC 200 summer card:

UFC President Dana White removed ‘Notorious’ from his scheduled rematch with Nate Diaz, which was set to headline the card, because McGregor refused to attend a press conference to promote the event as he felt it would interfere with his training for the previously scheduled rematch.

Now the two parties look to settle the beef as a dinner meeting between McGregor, White, and the Fertittas is set to go down tonight to discuss the Irishman’s future.

In regards to a bout with Mayweather, nothing has been confirmed, however, Dana White did tell Mayweather to call him if he is indeed serious about a potential throwdown with the UFC star.
