A UFC lightweight caused a five-vehicle crash this past weekend (Sat., August 18, 2018) in Davie, Florida.

Desmond Green triggered the accident on Interstate 75 and only sustained minor injuries. Two other individuals were killed in the crash and another is fighting for her life in a hospital.

lvaro Feola, a spokesman for the Florida Highway Patrol, detailed how the crash went down (via MMA Mania):

“Desmond Green, 28, was driving a Dodge Durango north when he lost control of his SUV just before 6:15 a.m. near Sheridan Street. Green’s SUV veered into the path of a tractor-trailer, causing a chain-reaction crash that involved three additional vehicles.”

Green has not received any charges or citations at this point. An investigation is still ongoing, however. The reason why Green lost control of his vehicle is still being looked into.

Green was last seen defeating Gleison Tibau in June. He was scheduled to face Mairbek Taisumov at September 15’s UFC Moscow before the crash. His current status is now unknown.

Highly ranked UFC lightweight contender Khabib “The Eagle” Nurmagomedov has been on the sidelines for the last two years nursing multiple injuries.

The undefeated Dagestani born combatant was scheduled to make his anticipated return to action at the upcoming UFC on FOX 19 card in Tampa, Florida in a pivotal bout opposite surging contender Tony “El Cucuy” Ferguson.

The bout, which was set to serve as the evening’s (April 16, 2016) main event, fell through earlier this week, however, when Ferguson was forced to withdraw with a lung injury.

Originally, it was thought that Nurmagomedov would be pulled from the card completely, as finding an opponent to face him on such short notice would be a daunting task.

Unsurprisingly, however, Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone, who is known for his anytime, anywhere attitude, voiced his interest in fighting “The Eagle”.

It appeared last night (April 6, 2016), as if both men had verbally agreed to the bout which is why it may be shocking to learn today that Nurmagomedov will be remaining on the card and taking on UFC newcomer Darrell Horcher in a catchweight bout.

FOX Sports confirmed the news earlier today (April 7, 2016).

Horcher has won his last five bouts including his latest two by way of stoppage, but it’s undoubtedly odd to see him take on one of the best lightweights in the world in his promotional debut.

No matter the opponent, “The Eagle” simply wanted to fight:

“I don’t fight for two years. I need to feel blood, I need to feel the cage, I am ready go,” Nurmagomedov said. “My mind says ‘hey, you have to fight next Saturday’. This is everything.”

Well, well, well.

Oh how the tables have turned.

Injury ridden lightweight contender Khabib “The Eagle” Nurmagomedov has spent the last two years on the sidelines since scoring a victory over current divisional kingpin Rafael dos Anjos.

The undefeated Dagestani wrestler was scheduled to make his return later this month (April 16, 2016) against Tony “El Cucuy” Ferguson in the main event of UFC on FOX 19 from Tampa, Florida.

Ferguson has been riding a hot wave as of late, and had previously warned Nurmagomedov to stay healthy and show up on fight night.

Now, however, “El Cucuy” has been forced off of the card due to an injury per FOX Sports.

This news has forced the UFC to bump the originally scheduled co-main event between former title challenger Glover Teixeira and former champion “Suga” Rashad Evans to main event status.

With such little time to find a replacement for Ferguson, “The Eagle” will not compete on the card, but will instead be given a new bout for a later date.

Teixeira, a Brazilian slugger, has picked up back to back stoppage victories over the likes of Ovince St. Preux and Patrick Cummins after suffering consecutive defeats to Jon Jones and Phil Davis.

Evans, on the other hand, recently returned from quite a lengthy injury layoff, dropping an extremely disappointing decision to Ryan Bader at October 2015’s UFC 192. He will look to get back on track against Teixeira in just a few weeks time.

Thiago Silva Beats Aggravated Assault Case, Because His Ex-Wife Has Left the Country

(Deal with it. / Photo via Getty)

In a victory for bad guys everywhere, former UFC light-heavyweight Thiago Silva has been officially cleared of all charges related to an alleged spree of mayhem in January and February of this year. Silva had been accused of sticking a gun in his ex-wife Thaysa’s mouth and threatening to kill her, sending her bonus death-threats via text message, then driving over to Pablo Popovitch’s gym and threatening to shoot up the place. He was eventually charged with aggravated assault with a firearm, aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, and resisting arrest without violence.

Luckily — for Silva, not for society — a Florida judge dropped all the charges:

Sherdog.com confirmed the news with a Broward County State Attorney’s office representative following an initial report from TMZ. The representative said that the charges were likely dropped because the alleged victim had become uncooperative and investigators had determined that she had likely moved out of the country.

Wait, so Silva is a free man because his alleged victim won’t testify and is currently in hiding? Great work as usual, Florida.

Silva was released from jail on $25,000 bond in March, and has been living as a humble kickboxing instructor since then, teaching and training out of the Blackzilians camp. He was slated to return to competition at Fight Time 20 last month, but pulled out of the match due to a knee injury.
