Nate Diaz vs. Jorge Masvidal appears have to been a financial disaster.
Five years removed from their BMF title clash under the UFC banner, Diaz and Masvidal ran it back inside the squared circle on July 6 at the Honda Center in Anaheim, California. Their 10-round scrap was an entertaining affair that ultimately saw the ‘Stockton Samurai’ score a majority decision victory over Masvidal.
Unfortunately, nobody paid to see it.
“It did horrible on pay-per-view, it did TNA numbers,” Dave Meltzer of Wrestling Observer reported. “I’m not exaggerating. I knew it would not do well, but I was absolutely stunned how poorly it did. Nobody bought the fight. People are sick of seeing MMA fighters boxing” (h/t BJPenn.com).
For reference, TNA wrestling’s PPV numbers range anywhere from 5,000 to 60,000. If those numbers prove to be true, it’s safe to say that Fanmio’s venture into combat sports pay-per-view is an unmitigated disaster.
Nate Diaz vs. Jorge Masvidal scored a solid $1.25 million gate in Anaheim
It wasn’t all bad news for Fanmio as the event hosted a sell-out crown of 18,040 per a post-fight press release, generating a solid $1.25 million gate according to the California State Athletic Commission.
Unfortunately, that’s not going to be anywhere close to what they allegedly promised to pay Nate Diaz for his participation in the evening’s headliner.

Report States That Nate Diaz & Jorge Masvidal’s Boxing Match Massively Underperformed On PPV
On a relatively quiet week for combat sports, former UFC stars Nate Diaz and Jorge Masvidal met inside a boxing ring.
But a recent report suggests that despite the event being heavily spoken about, fans were not willing to pay the pay-per-view price to watch it live.
Dave Meltzer stated on a recent episode of Observer Radio that the event did not perform well, comparing it to wrestling promotion Total Nonstop Action (TNA), which has always had a tough time competing against the WWE before the two companies started working together as of late.
“It did horrible on PPV, it did TNA numbers. I’m not exaggerating. I knew it would not do well, but I was absolutely stunned how poorly it did. Nobody bought the fight. People are sick of seeing MMA fighters do boxing.”
Jake Paul & Mike Perry Come Face To Face Ahead Of July 20
Before they can meet on July 20 in a change of opponent for Paul, who was scheduled to be taking on Mike Tyson on this date, the two men came face to face.
As you can expect from two bold characters, there were some certainly unique moments during their conversation. That included, at one point, both men seemingly doing “Macho Man” Randy Savage and Hulk Hogan impressions.
The highlight of the entire video was certainly the following quote from Perry, who has always had an unparalleled way with words…
“Your little baby green punches can’t even f****** reach my brain stem bro. I’m gonna dig through your eyeball and find your memories.”
Paul responded in the same way that pretty much everybody else would when being told that by the “King of Violence.”
“Please don’t do that. Please don’t do that Mikey.”
Kevin Jousset Books Home Fight In Paris Against Former TUF Winner
Rising UFC welterweight and City Kickboxing fighter Kevin Jousset has got his next assignment, and it’s sure to be a bucket list one for him.
The French fighter will finally be getting the opportunity to compete in front of his home fans when he makes the walk on September 28 in Paris.
MMA Junkie’s Nolan King reported that Jousset is set to make his third Octagon appearance against The Ultimate Fighter season 29 winner Bryan Battle.
Having competed in Australia and Las Vegas since signing to the promotion, it’s time for “Air” to get the home fighter treatment following his impressive winning streak.

Just over a week on from the boxing fight on Fanmio between Nate Diaz vs. Jorge Masvidal, the victorious Stockton star has sued the company and its owner over claims he’s yet to be paid 90 percent of the agreed purse.
Over four years on from their highly anticipated showdown inside the Octagon at UFC 244, Diaz and Masvidal ran it back in a different environment on July 6.
While Madison Square Garden played host to “Gamebred’s” victory in MMA, a packed-out crown inside Anaheim’s Honda Center witnessed the pair run it back in the boxing ring last Saturday.
TMZ reported this week that Diaz is suing promoter Solomon Engel and his company over a substantial amount of agreed pay allegedly being withheld. The former UFC fighter’s attorney, Jeremiah Reynolds, filed the lawsuit in U.S. District Court in Miami on Monday.
Promoter Accused Of Using Possible Divorce As Reason Not To Pay Diaz
In the suit, Diaz claims to have been promised a $10 million purse for the boxing match, both verbally and in writing. While the $1 million upfront was paid, the Stockton star and his team claim Engel is refusing to pay the post-fight sum of $9 million.
Engel is said to have not paid up after not profiting off the Diaz vs. Masvidal fight in the way he had expected.
It’s also alleged that the head of Fanmio told Diaz he couldn’t pass over the remaining $9 million in agreed pay due to fears his wife would divorce him due to the financial loss.
As a result, Diaz is suing for fraud and breach of contract, noting in the lawsuit that he wouldn’t have followed through with the match had he known the agreed $10 million purse wouldn’t be paid.

Nate Diaz claims Fanmio screwed him out of $9 million.
Less than two weeks removed from his critically acclaimed clash with Jorge Masvidal on pay-per-view, TMZ Sports reports that the ‘Stockton Samurai’ is suing Fanmio and promoter Solomon Engel for fraud and breach of contract. Diaz alleges that he was promised a $10 million payday for his role in the boxing match. He received $1 million upfront but has not yet received the remaining 90% of the money he claims to have been guaranteed.
The former UFC star’s attorney, Jeremiah Reynolds, filed the lawsuit in U.S. District Court in Miami on Monday.
Diaz alleges that Engel has refused the pay the remaining balance after the event failed to produce the profit he expected to make off the fight. The former UFC star also states in the suit that Engel declined to pay him because his wife may divorce him over the financial loss.
“Fanmio and Engel are now reneging on their written and oral promises and guarantees to pay $9 million owing to Diaz because they claim they are going to lose money on the event,” the suit states. “In a flurry of desperate calls to Diaz’s representatives following the event, Engel despondently groveled that he was going to lose more money than he had anticipated on the event if he paid Diaz what he had promised and that his wife might divorce him because of the financial losses. Engel went so far as to threaten he might have to declare bankruptcy to avoid paying Diaz what he owed” (h/t MMA Fighting).
Ariel Helwani also addressed the lawsuit during Monday’s episode of The MMA Hour, which you can watch below:
Nate Diaz earned a majority decision over ‘Gamebred’ in his sophomore boxing appearance
In what was just his second time competing in a boxing ring, Nate Diaz won the bout via majority decision, evening the series with ‘Gamebred’ after coming up short in their 2019 BMF title clash under the UFC banner.
The event, which aired live on PPV via Fanmio, DAZN, and UFC FightPass, emanated from the Honda Center in Anaheim and drew a reported sold-out crowd of 18,040 per a post-event press release.
Pay-per-view numbers for the event are currently unknown, but the fact that Fanmio lowered the initial cost from $79.99 to $49.99 in the weeks leading up to the fight was not a good sign.
Of course, the biggest question on the minds of fight fans is when could we see the trilogy fight between himself and Masvidal. Speaking at the post-fight press conference, Diaz let the door open for a third meeting with his longtime rival, though he declined to suggest that it would be anytime soon.
“That’s a whole ‘nother situation for later. I think we’re 1-0 on each other,” suggested Diaz. “He got a win in MMA, I got a win in boxing. So who knows what’s going to happen next with him, but at some point…”
Nate Diaz Wants to ‘whoop [jake paul’s] ass
Instead, Nate Diaz is focusing on a couple of other names. In particular, a rematch with the man who beat him in his professional boxing debut last year, Jake Paul.
‘The Problem Child’ welcomed Diaz to the squared circle in August 2023, securing a unanimous decision win over the TUF alumnus in Dallas. Since then, Paul has poked and prodded the Stockton native, attempting to draw him into a rematch in the world of mixed martial arts. However, Diaz appears to be much more interested in running it back with Paul in the sweet science.
Diaz also reiterated his interest in a rematch with reigning UFC welterweight world champion Leon Edwards.
“Just off the top of my head, I would like to whoop [Jake Paul’s] ass,” Diaz said. I would like to get a win against Leon Edwards, who is the best fighter in the world right now at 170. I think that’s something major, who’s actually going to bring something that I can take and put in the credential box. That’s what I’m going for. I’m not playing for no f*cking fun fights, because that sh*t ain’t fun” (h/t Cageside Press).
Edwards won their UFC 263 clash via a unanimous decision, but Diaz famously rocked ‘Rocky’ in the final minute of the fight, leading many to believe that Diaz would have scored a knockout had there been more time on the clock.
