BJJ all-timer, Gordon Ryan competitive career in question following another stint of infections and health issues.
Over the past few years, Ryan has taken the world of no-Gi BJJ by storm and is now widely regarded as the greatest to ever do it. However, Ryan’s career has been plagued with health issues including staph infections and a fungal growth in his small intestine cause a huge bacterial imbalance in his stomach. The latter is something which he battled for many years and forced him out of competition for some time.
Gordon Ryan stomach flares up along with strep throat
Unfortunately for grappling fans, Ryan has again fallen ill and would post an update to his fans via Instagram.
“Hi everyone- quick update for everyone who has been asking. I’m not sure when I’ll be competing again. When I got back from my Abu Dhabi trip I came down with a severe case of strep throat which ended with me in the hospital because my throat swelled shut,” Ryan began.
“So all in I was on over 40 days of antibiotics straight plus a shot of penicillin. During this time I was contagious and everyone were in big camps so I couldn’t even go to training in fear I would infect them as well. In addition, my ears were in so much pain from my throat that I couldn’t elevate my heart rate at all without having them want to explode and getting a pounding headache.”
“ So I’ve been completely inactive for a longer time than I ever have since I started training. As expected, my stomach has relapsed pretty bad and my nausea and lack of appetite have re-appeared, so I’ll need to deal with that, but first I’m headed into surgery today for a tonsillectomy and to fix my severely deviated septum. Just wanted to update everyone on what my competition schedule looks like. I’m hoping to be back in the next few months.”
Ryan is a multiple time ADCC world champion as well as several pan IBJJF Jiu-Jitsu No-Gi Championship and world IBJJF No-Gi Championship.
Are you looking forward to seeing Gordon Ryan back competing?

Social media star and UFC-linked youngster, Hasbulla Magomedov has been criticized across social media this morning, after footage emerged of the 20-year-old punching and pulling the ear of his pet cat, before slapping it on the head.
Hasbulla, who penned a partnership and deal with the Dana White-led UFC late last year following UFC 280 in Abu Dhabi, UAE, has been seen at numerous mixed martial arts events hosted by the promotion in the region.
A close association of former undisputed lightweight champion, Khabib Nurmagomedov, and current undisputed division titleholder, Islam Makahchev – Magomedov was also recently pictured at a Power Slap League event at the UFC Apex facility, alongside award-winning actor and UFC shareholder, Mark Wahlberg.
Hasbulla has been criticized for abusing his cat on social media
In a video shared on social media platform, Twitter, Hasbulla, who signed an official ambassador deal with the UFC last year, can be seen pulling the ear of his visibly upset pet cat, before slapping the animal on its head.
Chasing the cat to it’s bed – in the form of a cardboard box, Hasbulla then slaps and hits his cat on the head a further two times before footage cuts.
A user on social media, who identified the cat as Barsik, called for the feline to be taken away from the 20-year-old Russian influencer.
“This is the infamous Barsik, Hasbulla’s cat. He has stated that he loves this animal. Imagine what he would do if he hated Barsik? Abusing animals is the worst. We need to come together as a team and rescue Barsik from the evil and tiny hands of Hasbulla. #FreeBarsik.”

Travelling to Riyadh amid his departure from the UFC earlier this month, former undisputed heavyweight champion, Francis Ngannou met with Portuguese captain and former Manchester United forward, Cristiano Ronaldo in the Saudi Arabia capital – squaring up to the football icon.
Ngannou, a former undisputed heavyweight champion, most recently headlined UFC 270 back in January of last year against French talent, Ciryl Gane in a title unification bout, defeating his brief former sparring partner in a wrestling and grappling-heavy unanimous decision victory.
In the time since, the Batié native has been sidelined from active competition after undergoing reconstructive knee surgery to address an injury suffered in the days before his fight with Gane.
With his contractual obligations with the UFC expiring officially on December 9. last, Francis Ngannou was officially stripped of the undisputed heavyweight title by the promotion earlier this month, ahead of a vacant title fight between former 205lbs best, Jon Jones and the previously mentioned, Gane at UFC 285 on March 4. next.

B Team Jiu Jitsu is one of the youngest and most talented BJJ camps on the scene. In just a short period of time, they have had an incredible run. Establishing themselves as one of the top No-Gi Jiu Jitsu camps in the world.
Here is everything you need to know about B Team Jiu Jitsu. Everything about how they formed from the Danaher Death Squad break up, notable members, and their hopes for the future.
How B Team Jiu Jitsu Formed
Before B Team Jiu Jitsu was formed, the founding members were part of the powerhouse Danaher Death Squad. The team that has run roughshod over the No-Gi Jiu Jitsu scene for the last decade.
John Danaher had formed what was arguably one of the best Jiu Jitsu teams of all-time. It seemed like they were going to dominate No-Gi Jiu Jitsu for years to come.
The Breakup Of DDS
From 2020-2021, the Danaher Death Squad was in the headlines for numerous reasons. The first time it was because the team had made the decision to leave Renzo Gracie’s infamous blue basement.
They decided to travel to Puerto Rico and attempt to set up a super team of grapplers. Their goal was to attract the world’s best grapplers to train with them in a beautiful beach setting.
It seemed like a good idea at the time until it had all fallen apart. Due to Covid and the cost of traveling, the new gym in Puerto Rico quickly failed.
Gordon Ryan would announce on Instagram that he was moving to Austin, Texas to start his own Jiu Jitsu school. This post was followed by another post by John Danaher announcing the breakup of DDS.
John Danaher, Gordon Ryan, and Garry Tonon would go on to form their own school called New Wave Jiu Jitsu.
Why Did DDS Breakup?
Former members of DDS have been kept quiet about all of the details of the team’s breakup. When asked, grapplers from both New Wave and B Team have said the same thing.
The two sides had philosophical differences in training and though it was better they went their own ways. Neither team has made discouraging remarks against the other and while they don’t train together, they remain respectful.
The Formation Of The B Team
With the split of the Danaher Death Squad, the B Team would form. The team was founded by Nicky Ryan, Ethan Crelinsten, Craig Jones, and Nick “Nicky Rods” Rodriguez. Four of the best No-Gi grapplers in the world.
They decided to go with the name B Team as it was a bit of an inside joke with them. The four were considered the B squad of team DDS, so they decided to call themselves the B Team.
Oddly enough, they would also open their school in Austin, Texas. Less than 15 minutes away from where New Wave Jiu Jitsu trains.
The two sides do not train with one another, but have remained cordial.
The Growth Of B Team Jiu Jitsu
Although B Team opened its doors in late 2021, they have been immediately successful. They have managed to attract some of the best grapplers in the world to come train with them.
Every training session is loaded with grapplers wanting to learn from the members and receive world class training. Their growth is thanks to the positive atmosphere the team has created.
Anyone is welcomed to their gym, no matter their affiliation, as long as they come in with a positive attitude.
The Founders Of B Team Jiu Jitsu
B Team Jiu Jitsu was founded by four former members of the Danaher Death Squad.
Craig Jones
Nicky Ryan
Ethan Crelinsten
Nick Rodriguez
Craig Jones
Probably the most known grappler from B Team is top Australian grappler Craig Jones. He was already well known before joining DDS and has elevated his game to an even higher level since.
At the most recent ADCC event, Jones had a great performance, where he earned his second ADCC silver medal. Jones is one of the moral leaders within the B Team.
From the videos from their Youtube vlog, he is always joking and trying to brighten the mood during training.
Nicky Ryan
Many in the Jiu Jitsu world were shocked when Nicky Ryan broke away from his brother Gordon and mentor John Danaher. But Nicky is seemingly wanting to carve his own path and come out of the shadow of his brother.
Along with Ethan Crelinsten, Nicky is one of the main instructors at the B Team. As for competing, Ryan has unfortunately dealt with chronic knee injuries.
The young grappler tore his meniscus prior to ADCC and was noticeably slower in his first round loss. He is currently working his way towards 100% and will look to compete more frequently.
Ethan Crelinsten
Ethan Crelinsten had trained under John Danaher for many years prior to the breakup. He is one of the head instructors at B Team, as well as a top grappler in his own right.
Crelinsten recently had one of the best matches of his career beating Fight Sport standout Fabricio Andrey by RNC. Among his other team members, Ethan may not be as well known, but he is showing to be just as good.
Nick Rodriguez
The phenom, Nick “Nicky Rods” Rodriguez is one of the founders and standout members of the B Team. Rodriguez has only been doing Jiu Jitsu training for around 5 years but he’s already world class.
At the 2022 ADCC event, Nick proved that his debut was not a fluke. He came in even better than before and earned another silver medal.
Rodriguez has continued to be one of the most active grapplers on the scene. Just recently winning the 2022 EBI Absolute Championship.
Other Notable B Team Jiu Jitsu Competitors
Aside from the four founding members of the B Team, there are younger members that are making a name for themselves. Here are three of the young members that you will probably hear more about in the future.
Jacob “J-Rod” Rodriguez
Jacob “J-Rod” Rodriguez is the younger brother of Nick Rodriguez. He made a huge splash onto the Jiu Jitsu scene with his performance at ADCC West Coast Trials. Submitting all of his opponents and hitting his patented buggy choke.
Rodriguez would lose in the first round of the ADCC tournament, but it was nothing to be discouraged about. J-Rod is already a talented grappler and with enough experience, he will push himself to world class status. Maybe even a world champion.
Kenta Iwamoto
Keita Iwamoto is one of the young rising stars of B Team Jiu Jitsu that’s frequently highlighted on their vlog. A highly skilled grappler with a base in Judo.
Iwamoto was the only Asian grappler at the past ADCC event and had one of the best matches of the tournament. Having a war with former ADCC champion JT Torres, who would win by points.
He is an incredibly skilled grappler that you will definitely hear more about in the future.
Damien Anderson
Damien Anderson is frequently highlighted on the B Team Jiu Jitsu vlog and is one of their most talented grapplers. He was an alternate for the last ADCC tournament and is currently the 8th ranked featherweight No-Gi grappler in the world.
Anderson is known for his high level takedown game, as well as his leg locks. Skills that will obviously drastically improve training at B Team.
What’s The Future Of B Team Jiu Jitsu?
While the B Team is young, they have already established themselves as one of the world’s best No-Gi gyms. At every major grappling event, they are represented and often the favorites to win.
As the B Team continues to grow, the skies are the limit for this young grappling team. It would surprise no one to see B Team members win more championships in the future.

UFC president, Dana White has confirmed promotional light heavyweight champion, Jiri Prochazka has been forced from his scheduled UFC 282 title defense rematch with Glover Teixeira due to a significant shoulder injury, describing the setback as the worst shoulder injury doctor’s under the UFC banner have ever seen.
Dana White praises Jiri Prochazka’s decision to vacate the light heavyweight crown
Confirming Jiri Prochazka will require upwards of a year in order to rehabilitate his shoulder injury, the aforenoted, White described the injury as the worst shoulder trauma UFC doctor’s have ever experienced.
“This is the worst shoulder injury the doctors have seen in UFC history,” Dana White told Yahoo! Sports reporter, Kevin Iole. “It’s really f*cking bad. His (Jiri Prochazka) shoulder is very, very bad. He’s going to have serious surgery that will require extensive rehab.”
“We met with Jiri last night and listen, this guy is one of the classiest humans of all-time,” White continued. “He is such a warrior and was so bummed out. He brought up stepping aside to us before we ever got there. He’s going to be out a long time and at some point, we would probably have had to strip him. But he brought it up to us and said out of respect for the other fighters, he didn’t want to hold up the division. Le me tell you, that kid’s a stud, man, to react like that.”
White then confirmed how former champion, Teixeira was offered a vacant title fight against the aforenoted, Ankalaev in lieu of Jiri Prochazka’s withdrawal, which he ultimately rejected.
“We offered Glover the fight [against Magomed Ankalaev],” White explained. “For some reason, he didn’t want the fight, so we had to move on. If we couldn’t have the rematch, getting Ankalaev, who has the second-longest winning streak in light heavyweight history, and (Jan) Blachowicz, who is the former champion, is really fortunate. It all fell into place for us as it often seems to do. But that’s a great fight, too, and now it’s for the full title.”
After a short and furious battle with Kevin Holland after a newfound beef in the leadup of UFC 279, Khamzat Chimaev has extended the olive branch to his former opponent. After a short and furious battle with Kevin Holland after a newfound beef in the leadup of UFC 279, Khamzat Chimaev has extended the olive branch to his former opponent. Saying in the post-fight presser that he would welcome ‘Trailblazer’ to train with his team in Sweden.
While fans may have expected UFC 279 and its fight week to be entertaining, nobody could have guessed that things would be as insane as they were. It all started with the UFC 279 press conference, where a near riot broke out backstage between the parties of Kevin Holland’s, Khamzat Chimaev’s, and Nate Diaz’s entourages.
Things would eventually be settled with no significant issues or injuries reported, but the press conference would indeed have to be canceled in a historical first for the UFC.
Surprisingly though, this would just be the tip of the iceberg. As next would be the weigh-ins, and no fan alive could have predicted what would happen next. In a shocking turn of events, Chimaev would miss weight by an astounding 8.5lbs, sending the entire event into a catastrophic whirlwind.
The UFC rushed to fix the new mess that had been created as Nate Diaz would no longer fight ‘Borz’ with the weight miss. So, fights would be shuffled and fans would be blessed with a card that ultimately was a consensus better than the original one. Diaz was now set to face Tony Ferguson in the main event, and Chimaev and Holland would get a chance to settle their newfound beef.
Kevin Holland and Khamzat Chimaev’s beef settled after a near-riot and a heated brawl in the cage
It took only a few minutes for ‘Borz’ to accomplish his goal. Literally, rag-dolling Kevin Holland like he was a puppet. Chimaev had his way with the UFC star and found a home for a D’arce choke that forced the tap.
After the fight, you could feel it in the air that tensions had eased. From being involved in a near-riot that started with Chimaev and Holland at its core, to now finding some newfound respect for one another.
At the UFC’s postfight press conference, Chimaev had this to say about things:
“He’s actually a nice guy, so I like him, you know?” He began. “Sometimes we don’t like each other before the fight, it’s all normal…we’re coming for the war, to kill each other.”
“So, now this war is over,” Khamzat Chimaev continued. “If he wants he can come to my gym and be one of us…and he’s nice guy, good guy, tough guy, you know? He has a lot of things to learn, so yeah, he’s one of the warriors.”
With the war over and an olive branch extended, do you think Kevin Holland will accept Chimaev’s offer to train in Sweden?
