Dos Anjos, Johnny Walker vs Jamahal Hill

Big news has been announced today as we see the Rafael Dos Anjos vs Rafael Fiziev fight pushed back, and are given a new main event for UFC Vegas 48. It’s also worth noting that instead of a five-round main-event, Dos Anjos vs Fiziev will now take the co-main slot for UFC 272, but remain a five-round affair.

Fiziev has had VISA issues, and this is what’s preventing him from fighting next week at UFC Vegas 48. Ariel Helwani was the first to report the news.

With Dos Anjos and Fiziev Pushed Back, “Sweet Dreams” and Wild Johnny Walker Take the Spotlight

Johnny Walker (18-6, 4-3 UFC) arrived carrying a wave of excitement, but it’s seemingly crashed as of lately. He’s still an extremely thrilling fighter to watch, but the general hype surrounding him has eased.

Earning a contract on Dana White‘s Contender Series, Walker debuted in the UFC in 2018 and slaughtered any competition they put in his path. In his first three UFC fights, Walker created a highlight-reel worthy of awe, and definitely put the world on notice. Alas, things have been rough as of late, and he’s currently 1-2 in his last three bouts, coming off of a loss to Thiago Santos.

Jamahal Hill (9-1, 3-1-1NC UFC) is a hungry upcoming star who has put together a resume of notable wins and epic finishes, however, suffered a devastating loss and injury last year in his fight with Paul Craig.

They don’t call him “Sweet Dreams” for no reason either. Hill has savage power just as Walker does, making our UFC Vegas 48 main event an even more intriguing one. With KO/TKO stoppages over Ovince St. Preux and Jimmy Crute, Hill has shown he can finish a more experienced adversary, despite being relatively fresh into his professional career.

Canelo Alvarez, Kamaru Usman

UFC welterweight champion Kamaru Usman is doing everything he can to ‘poke the bear’ and potentially get a fight with boxing champ Canelo Alvarez.

Usman has called out Alvarez recently over the past few months, most notably in the leadup to his fight against Colby Covington at UFC 268. He would defeat Covington via a unanimous decision.

Usman ended 2021 at the top of the UFC’s pound-for-pound list and is arguably the most dominant fighter in the world at the moment. He’s expected to return later this year once he’s fully recovered from hand surgery.

But an injured hand hasn’t stopped Usman from continuing to put pressure on Alvarez for a crossover fight. During an interview with CBS Sports, Usman gave his thoughts on why Alvarez hasn’t accepted a fight with him.

Kamaru Usman Wants Canelo Alvarez Crossover Fight

“When you’re the pound for pound, and you’re the best on the planet, you believe that,” Usman said. “You’re not afraid to say ‘I’ll cross over [to boxing], I’ll go over, because I am the best.’ You see Tyson Fury and Francis Ngannou right now. Tyson Fury is not shy of saying ‘Hey, Francis Ngannou you’re a big power puncher, you wanna be the best, come over and I’ll take you on.’ But you’re not really hearing that from [Canelo’s] side, my guy. So, more power to him… Canelo, you can continue being the champion that you are, I respect you, you continue picking off all these guys that no one really knows and fighting them. More respect to you.” (h/t SportsKeeda)

Alvarez most recently defeated Caleb Plant, Billy Joe Saunders, and Avni Yildirim in 2021. He’s expected to face Gennady Golovkin next in a trilogy.

Usman wants a shot in the boxing ring as his striking continues to improve. Whether or not he’ll get that opportunity remains to be seen.

Do you think we’ll ever see Kamaru Usman vs. Canelo Alvarez?

Joe Rogan has revealed he believes the Spotify backlash he received was a political hitjob. However, he still has no issue apologising for his previous mistakes.

The UFC commentator has received a lot of criticism on social media these past few weeks for using racist and derogatory terms in previous episodes on The Joe Rogan Experience. Rogan was originally under fire for his comments surrounding COVID-19, however now the focus is more on Rogan’s racist remarks.

A compilation video was released highlighting every time Rogan had used a racial slur on his podcast which the comedian believes was released for him to answer for his actions.

“In a lot of ways, all this is a relief”

“Because that video had always been out there. Like this is a political hit job so they’re taking all this stuff that I’ve ever said that’s wrong and smushed it all together but it’s good because it makes me address some sh*t that I really wish wasn’t out there.”

Following on from the backlash Rogan removed 70 episodes of his podcast from the Spotify website. It was only in 2020 when Rogan signed his deal with Spotify worth over $100Million, the company has continued to support Rogan throughout this controversy.

After watching the video Rogan realised the gravity of the situation and why people were so disappointed.

“I used to say it if (I was talking about) a Richard Pryor bit or something, I would say it in context,” “Somebody made a compilation of every time I said that word over 14 years and they put it on YouTube, and it turned out that was racist as f*ck. Even to me!

“I’m me and I’m watching it saying, ‘Stop saying it!’ I put my cursor over the video and I’m like, ‘Four more minutes?!’”

Joe Rogan Defends His Covid Opinion’s

Despite realising his mistake in other areas of his work, Rogan has come out and defended his opinions surrounding the pandemic and the virus itself, reminding viewers that he is not a medical expert.

“I talk sh*t for a living — that’s why this is so baffling to me,” Rogan said. “If you’re taking vaccine advice from me, is that really my fault?

“What dumb sh*t were you about to do when my stupid idea sounded better? ‘You know that dude who made people eat animal d*cks on TV? How does he feel about medicine?’ If you want my advice, don’t take my advice.” (transcribed by MMAFighting.com)

Joe Rogan will return to the broadcast booth this weekend for the UFC 271 Pay-per-view.

Speaking at the UFC 271 press conference, middleweight champion Israel Adesanya was full of praise for Conor McGregor.

Having just inked a new deal with the UFC, Adesanya’s management team revealed this new contract would make him ‘one of the top paid athletes in the history of mixed martial arts.’

McGregor responded to the post from Paradigm sports to congratulate ‘The Last Stylebender’.

“Can’t wait to see Izzy Style (Israel Adesanya) back in the Octagon this weekend,” McGregor tweeted after the announcement.

“One of the true remaining high-level fighter/performer athletes we have on the roster. Don’t just fight. Perform!”

Israel Adesanya Responds To McGregor’s Comments

One reporter mentioned McGregor’s tweet at the press conference, this is what Israel Adesanya had to say.

“Real recognize real. We’re on the same team when it comes to Paradigm. Yeah, I think I’m in second place when it comes to the highest-paid fighter on the roster. Well, active right now,” Adesanya offered to reporters.

“Conor is a guy I’ve always admired from the jump… from the jump, when he fought Marcus Brimage.”

“He’s a guy that… he’s a performer. When he said perform, I know what he means. We know. You don’t just fight. You perform. Look at the last fight with Whittaker… That was a rockstar concert. I gave a song and dance, the whole thing.”

“So, yeah. We understand the magnitude of stepping up in the main event. Not just showing off but showing out. I appreciate Conor and what he’s done for the game. Whether you like him or not, he’s raised the bar. Even for you guys in here. The whole game is better because of him. Ronda Rousey did that in her time,” Adesanya continues.

“I look to raise the bar the same.” (Transcribed by brobible.com)

It appears there is nothing but respect between two people who have truly helped elevate the sport.

Who do you think walks away with that middleweight belt come Saturday night?

Former two-division UFC champion, Conor McGregor has picked his management stablemate, Israel Adesanya to successfully defend his middleweight title this weekend at UFC 271 against Robert Whittaker, labelling the striking ace as one of the only “true high-level performers” currently on the promotion’s books.

McGregor, who has been out of action since July of last year where he suffered a fractured tibia in the opening round of his UFC 264 trilogy rubber match with Dustin Poirier, is currently targeting a return to active competition and the Octagon by this summer.

The Dubliner, who finds himself in the midst of a two-fight losing streak for the first time in his professional career, suffered a first round TKO doctor’s stoppage loss to former interim lightweight champion, Poirier, having dropped a knockout defeat to the Louisianan last January.

Conor McGregor last scored a UFC win back in January 2020 with an early high kick knockout over Donald Cerrone

In his time away from the Octagon, McGregor has been linked with numerous opponents for his expected summer comeback, however, an official bout for the 33-year-old has so far yet to materialize at the time of publication.

The former undisputed lightweight and featherweight champion did, however, offer support to his Paradigm Sports Management stablemate Adesanya ahead of UFC 271, picking the Nigerian-Kiwi to emerge with his title – off the back of the latter penning a new multi-fight deal with the organization.

“Can’t wait to see Izzy Style (Israel Adesanya) back in the Octagon this weekend,” Conor McGregor tweeted. “One of the true remaining high level fighter/performer athletes we have on the roster. Don’t just fight. Perform! @stylebender (Israel Adesanya) back in the Octagon this week! Only on PPV! @ufc @espn #AndStill.”

Attempting to secure the fourth successful defense of his middleweight crown, Adesanya successfully unified the division titles back in October 2019 against Whittaker – stopping the former undisputed champion with a second round knockout in Melbourne, Australia.

In the time since, Adesanya has lodged title knockback wins over the trio of Yoel Romero, Paulo Costa, and Marvin Vettori – the most recent of which in June last year in the main event of UFC 263.

Colby Covington Jorge Masvidal

Jorge Masvidal has sent a warning message to former friend and teammate Colby Covington ahead of the pair’s matchup at UFC 272.

Following on from their falling out both men began working their way up the welterweight rankings having both earned title shots in recent years. Now less than a month away from when the two are set to fight and it appears things are beginning to heat up even more between the pair.

Jorge Masvidal Fires Shots At Colby Covington

Jorge Masvidal took to social media to continue from where he left off and directly tagged Colby Covington in his latest barrage of abuse.

“At the home, the temple, home to some real motherf*ckers. Left and right, I’m not the only one here that’s a bad motherf*cker. Many bad motherf*ckers here. But not your b*tch ass that got kicked out from here. Damn, man. I know it hurts every time you see that sh*t.

£I know what a sensitive b*tch you are and how you read comments and cry. I can’t imagine every time you see this symbol, it just hurts, man. Keep talking sh*t though. I can’t wait.

“March 5th is getting closer, so is this knee to your temple. Not only am I going to break your face in a very violent way but the UFC is going to see you’re such a liability that they’re gonna kick you out, bro.

Then it’s going to be back to Indian reservations where you can fight, maybe you can co-main event or some sh*t like that because I don’t even think you can main event after I’m done with you, in any show. I’m gonna f*ck you up, man. Keep talking that sh*t though. March 5th can’t come close enough. See you soon, b*tch. Never forget.”

Unusually for Colby Covington, he didn’t respond and has remained quiet throughout most of Jorge Masvidal’s attacks including Masvidal’s video calling out ‘The Real Street Judas’. (transcribed by Mmafighting.com)
