UFC featherweight champion Conor McGregor doesn’t waste much time making friends with his attention from the media. Undoubtedly the biggest attraction in MMA, arguably combat sports today, McGregor spends a fair amount of time filling the headline spots on major news outlets. He’s one of a select few UFC stars to bridge the gap between the still somewhat growing sport of mixed martial arts and the mainstream media.

With this extra time in the limelight McGregor has made some rather outlandish statements lately. One such quote by ‘The Notorious’ included a verbal attack on the world of pro wrestling. The Irishman blasted the stars of the WWE as ‘pussies’ during a recent rant, and it’s sparked outrage among fans of World Wrestling Entertainment, of which there are many.

“Apology”

Ahead of his UFC 202 rematch with Nate Diaz, Conor McGregor has once again been on full speed ahead. Taking to Twitter in the early hours of this morning, ‘The Notorious’ attempted to take back some of his scathing comments. Well, at least in the first sentence.

It wouldn’t be sincere of McGregor to mince his words, it’s just not how he does these things. That said, how far is the boundary, if there even is one at all? ‘The Notorious’ is widely credited as bringing the UFC and the sport of MMA to never before seen levels of popularity. He’s flirted with the boxing world with the wild rumours involving Floyd Mayweather, but his attacks on the WWE seem a little less motivated by money.

UFC 202

Diaz vs. McGregor 2 goes down on August 20 at the T-Mobile arena in Las Vegas, Nevada. The pay-per-view card s highly anticipated and forecast by many to sell at a much higher rate than UFC 200. The biggest name in the sport, Conor McGregor is heading in to the most important fight of his life, but Diaz holds all the chips after submitting him on March 5.

Conor McGregor Blasts Pro Wrestlers: WWE Guys Are P*ssies

Despite his global star power, reigning UFC featherweight champion Conor McGregor has always said that he’s fully focused on the fight game rather than show business which is why it wasn’t surprising to see him shoot down the idea of performing in the WWE (World Wrestling Entertainment) during a conference call yesterday (August 6, 2016) ahead of his UFC 202 rematch with Nate Diaz.

Not only did the “Notorious” one shoot down the idea, but he also blasted professional wrestlers, labeling them as ‘p*ussies’. This included former UFC heavyweight champion Brock Lesnar who recently made his return to MMA at UFC 200 only to test positive for a banned substance, something McGregor just can’t respect:

“For the most part, those WWE guys are p*ssies, to be honest,” McGregor said. “They’re messed up p*ssies, if you ask me. Fair play to Brock [Lesnar], he got in and fought, but at the end of the day he was juiced up to the f*cking eye balls, so how can I respect that? And then what’s the other guy? The other guy hasn’t fought yet, so I don’t know about him yet.”

As far as ‘the other guy’ goes, McGregor is referring to Philip ‘CM Punk” Brooks, who will make his mixed martial arts debut at UFC 203 on September 10 in Cleveland. Continuing on, the “Notorious” did show some respect for some of the WWE’s biggest names, although overall he once again considered pro wrestlers ‘p*ussies’:

“There’s some dons in that wrestling game,” McGregor said. “The McMahons, they’re dons. Triple H is a don. The Rock is a don. But the rest of them are p*ssies.”

At the end of the day, McGregor reiterated the idea that he’s focused on fighting, with no time for show business:

“I haven’t really thought of that to be honest,” he said. “Again, that’s a little more show business. This is the fight business.”

Do you see McGregor getting his revenge on Diaz in just a few short weeks?

During his appearance on “The Exchange” with Megan Olivi, UFC contender Nate Diaz spoke at length about his upcoming rematch against Conor McGregor and his belief that it was put together so quickly because the UFC wants to “weed Diaz out” and get the attention back on their golden child McGregor.

“When it [the rematch] first got booked, I was like, ‘Man, they want to get me right back in there again and try to win this back and weed me out again.’ That’s how I felt,” said Diaz during the interview. “Can I sit back for eight months and soak up some popularity and exposure and go on vacation and do what I gotta do. They were like, ‘We want this,’ and I was like why so quick? But I was like, whatever, and then the deals got done.”

As Diaz continued, he explained why the UFC better really hope he loses his rematch with McGregor at UFC 202, because if he wins, he’s “really taking over.”

“I’m going to prepare, that’s about it,” added Diaz about his approach for the rematch. “We’re going to see. The same thing I always say: My objective is to win, I’m going to train hard and try to get it done. I believe I’m the superior martial artist and I’m just going to go in there and get the job done. They better hope I lose, because if I win this one I’m really taking over.”

“The Exchange with Megan Olivi” featuring Nate Diaz is available now on UFC Fight Pass.

Diaz-McGregor 2 takes place as the main event of UFC 202 on Saturday, August 20th from the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Fans now have only two weeks to wait until the next big pay-per-view UFC card. Topping that August 20 UFC 202 event will be the rematch between Nate Diaz and Conor McGregor. The second chapter of their storied rivalry is in full swing, and the ball is essentially in McGregor’s court to even up the score. The first fight was rich in rivalry, even though it only lasted 11 days, and provided some memorable moments.

Many argued the Stockton native had in fact won the war of words before UFC 196, a previously unattainable task for opponents of ‘The Notorious.’ Diaz would also go on to win the war of fists, handing McGregor his first loss in the octagon in impressive fashion. Little did we know they’d be linked to a rematch just weeks after their March 5 scrap had transpired. UFC 200 was the original target, later moved to UFC 202 when the Irishman fell in to disputes over media obligations.

The Media Call

Conor McGregor and Nate Diaz were on tap for the UFC 202 media call his past Friday (August 5, 2016). In typical fashion of both men, Diaz was a man of few words, and McGregor of many. Aside from a number of one-word answers provided by Nate Diaz, the Stockton bad boy did give some insight regarding his history of contract issues with the UFC. The tale of his rise to stardom is often underscored by his win over McGregor, but Diaz said this was simply a shortcut. As quoted by MMAFighting.com.

“This guy talks about all these fighters like they’re f*cking dumb, and he’s right, they’re all f*cking dumb,”

“I’m not one of those guys who sat around here f*cking taking contracts. I’ve been bitching about my contract for the last six years. I’ve been going through hell, so I knew I was going to get mine. When it was time to get mine, I was going to get what I was going to get regardless, and I had a plan to do it. It’s not thanks to Conor that I got all of this, but I’m going to say that was a shortcut.”

Nate Diaz Plots

Contrary to popular belief, Diaz says he’s masterminded the current upswing in his popularity and career success.

“If I was stupid, I wouldn’t have got to where I’m at,” Diaz said. “I did what I had to do. I got that fight with Johnson, I plotted him out and I got sh*t done. And then I plotted back and got this on a 10-day notice and it worked out still, regardless. I asked for the fight, I said I wanted the fight, I got the fight, so I’m going to take the fight.

“So it’s like, I feel I’m in the position I’m in because I put myself in this position, and it’s not great, it’s not horrible, it’s f*cking what it is. So that’s been my take on the whole situation. I wasn’t following the leader on making some money here. I was going to get my money regardless, and I was going to get where I’m at regardless. But I will say that he was a shortcut.”
