Quinton ‘Rampage’ Jackson is set to make his return to the Bellator cage, when he takes on Olympic Judo gold medalist Satoshi Ishii at Bellator 157 tonight (June 24, 2016).

Earlier this past week, courtesy of MMA Fighting, ‘Rampage’ took some time to talk with Ariel Helwani on The MMA Hour to discuss his thoughts on Ishii and his unique sill set:

“Honestly, I didn’t really know much about him because I don’t really watch a lot of fights,” Jackson said. “I didn’t know anything about him, but then I heard he’s a southpaw and a judo guy, and I was like, ‘ah, hell.’

This is going to be a good test for me because, to be honest, I don’t do well against southpaws. And judo is kind of awkward for MMA, that’s why Ronda Rousey was smashing girls so bad, so quickly.

Because somebody that can do judo efficiently in MMA, can be very dangerous if you don’t know how to handle it.”

RampageJackson was then asked on which weight class he plans on competing in following his bout with Ishii, given the bout is a catchweight fight at 225 pounds, and revealed he no longer wishes to cut weight:

“I haven’t really thought about it, but I’m thinking about maybe fighting heavyweight or something like that,” Jackson said. “I’m not going to lie, I’m too old to be cutting weight. I’m over all the cutting weight sh*t.”

‘Rampage’ was then pondered with the idea of possibly stepping inside the cage with Russian MMA legend Fedor Emelianenko, an idea that seemed to excite the former 205-pound UFC champion:

“That would be an incredible fight,” Jackson said. “Fedor is back. He’s always been one of my favorites, and I really love his fighting style.

That would be a great fight to put me in as well, but you know, Fedor and I are friends, we don’t talk to each other cause we speak different languages.

But at the end of the day, like I said, my job is to fight. So if that fight comes up, I would happily take it.”

Newly signed Bellator heavyweight Matt Mitrione was also mentioned as a possible opponent for Jackson in the near future, as the two share a history dating back to 2009 during the pair’s encounters during The Ultimate Fighter 10 (TUF 10):

“I’m sure Matt Mitrione’s ugly ass wants to see that fight happen too,” Jackson said. “I’m not opposed to it, but I don’t want to fight two southpaws back to back.

Like I said, I f*cking hate to fight southpaws because it’s hard to find sparring partners and stuff, but hey, at the end of the day it’s my job to fight, and I’ll fight anybody.

MattMitrioneWeighInWhile Jackson would be open to a bout with Mitrione, he would much rather throw down with another TUF 10 cast-member who did rub him the wrong way…… Darrill Schoonover, or as ‘Rampage’ likes to refer to him as, ‘T*tties’.

“I don’t turn down fights, but i really want to fight T*tties. I have no beef with Mitrione, I had beef with T*tties.

I’ve really been trying to fight T*tties, but Bellator doesn’t want to see it for some reason. I don’t understand why not. T*tties needs to get these hands all up in his face. I told T*tties, if I win, I’m going to motorboat him. And I ain’t lying.”

Jackson was asked why after all these years he still wants to fight Schoonover, he had this to say:

“Because T*tties keeps talking sh*t, and he’s still on my Twitter talking sh*t,” Jackson said. “I’m a fighter, so if another fighter is talking sh*t to me and sh*t like that, I’m going to fight him.

I don’t have to fight him in Bellator, I can go to his house, you know what I’m saying. I get paid to fight, so I want to be civil, so I can get your fat ass [Schoonover] in the cage and let’s fight.

Now, talk about a thing from TUF 10, that’s who I had the beef with. It was T*tties not Mitrione, but I’ll fight Mitrione. But I’m going to tell you who I really want, I want to shut T*tties’ ass up.”

Bellator 157 is set to go down live on Spike TV from the Scottrade Center, in St.Louis, Missouri on June 24, 2016.

MMA legend Quinton “Rampage” Jackson recently spoke with members of the MMA media to promote his upcoming fight against Satoshi Ishii at Bellator 157: “Dynamite 2” later this month.

During the discussion, Rampage touched on his UFC departure, the benefits of fighting in Bellator instead of the UFC, no longer being forced to deal with the mandatory Reebok sponsorship issues and more. Below are some of the highlights from the interview, which you can watch in full above.

On his UFC departure, ending up back in Bellator and the last year of his life:

“Yeah, you know, I’m not my own manager. I did my job, my job is to fight and entertain people. I’m not my own manager, so it’s kinda tough. Sometimes, when things don’t go according to what you’ve been told in the past… But, you know what? It looks like Bellator got rid of the bad apple; they got a new apple in there, so everything is all right. It’s all brand new to me.”

On the benefits of fighting in Bellator instead of UFC, including no longer having to deal with the Reebok sponsorship issues:

“The problem with MMA right now is that most people think that MMA is called UFC. I know when I’m on my social media and I’ll tag, like, “I’m fighting in Bellator,” people will be like, “Why you going to Bellator? Why you going to Bellator?” Nothing against UFC, because I’ve had my differences with UFC, they’re a great company. But, I would say some people’s dream is to go to the UFC, but it’s not everybody’s dream, you know what I’m sayin’?

“I like the UFC, I like Bellator… Bellator I don’t have to wear Reebok, you know what I’m sayin’? I’m happy that I’m not forced to wear a clothing brand that’s not really benefitting me. That’s one benefit to being in Bellator versus being in the UFC. But like I said, right now with all the new fighters, you can tell they’re just fans that’re coming in to fight. So, they don’t know any better. That’s their dream. The UFC’s been around longer than Bellator, so that’s probably their dream to go to the UFC. If that’s their dream to go to the UFC and wear Reebok to make the UFC more money, then go ahead. Whatever makes you happy.”

Bellator 157: “Dynamite 2” takes place on June 24, 2016 at the Scottrade Center in St. Louis, Missouri.

Former Bellator Executive Sues The Company, Makes Series Of Serious Allegations

bellator-mma-logo

Former Bellator MMA Talent Development Director Zach Light has filed a lawsuit against the promotion, as well as their parent company Viacom, for wrongful dismissal in the Los Angeles Superior Court.

Light was released from his role in the company back on March 17, 2016 and is now seeking damages. Additionally, Light, who also worked for the UFC and Strikeforce promotions in the past, made a series of allegations that claim Bellator MMA made a number of unethical and potentially illegal breaches while promoting and staging events.

Among his claims, Light is alleging that he became aware of fighters using fraudulent medical reports to obtain licenses. Upon bringing this to the attention of Bellator MMA management, Light claims he was sternly rebuffed and his job with the company was threatened.

“Approximately 48 hours prior to [Ryan] Martinez’s scheduled fight at Bellator 126, [Light] promptly reported what he had learned to Rich Chou, defendant BELLATOR’s Vice President of Talent. Chou assured [Light] that he would follow up and that [Light] should focus on his job. When [Light] heard nothing further from Chou, he approached [Bellator President Scott] Coker regarding Martinez’ impending fight based on forged medicals, in violation of Arizona law. Coker told [Light] to ‘do what Chou told you to do,’ without addressing these issues. Thereafter, [Light] again brought the subject up to Chou. Chou threatened[Light] with termination if he kept pushing the issue. [Light] later learned that after losing his bout, Martinez never resumed his mixed martial arts career.”

Light is also claiming Coker asked him to arrange matches between fighters represented by a manager with a poor relationship with Bellator leadership against fighters who’d likely beat them. The reason, according to Light, is because Bellator would then have grounds to release them. This is also the method Bellator wanted to use, according to Light, as revenge against a manager who represented Quinton “Rampage” Jackson back when Rampage signed with the UFC while still under contract with the UFC.

Before the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) took over the majority of MMA, the world’s foremost promotion had some serious competition in the form of PRIDE FC.

The Japan-based mixed martial arts (MMA) organization offered combat sports in its truest form before it became mainstream on the heels of Zuffa’s massive efforts. In 2007, PRIDE was actually absorbed by UFC.

Nonetheless, the promotion was the launching pad to countless MMA legends, champions, physical dynamos, and more. It gave us transcendent combat stars like “The Last Emperor,” “Minotauro,” and “The Axe Murderer.” If not for PRIDE, some of these historic figures would have never burst onto the international scene.

To celebrate the past and pay tribute to PRIDE, we take a look back at the 10 best fights in organizational history. Enjoy.
